Hey everyone.

Happy Thanksgiving if you celebrate.

I was wondering if people would be willing to talk to me about magic. If it even exists where you come from - if it doesn't or it's just a myth that's cool too, we can still chat - how it works, stuff like that. I got here at the beginning of the month and I've started working at Gramarye Magic Reseach so I guess you could say I'm curious? Magic seems to have different rules in different places for different people.

[ Okay, that was a lot to get out all at once. Caleb takes a breath and smiles. (It's not a bad smile.) ]

Even if you don't know the rules or you just want to lament about a lack of fried turkey or something, we could talk about that too!

Gramarye has extensive resources on magic. I made sure of it. As for myths, most humans consider me one.

I saw the library, it's pretty impressive. I'm just curious about people's experiences, I guess.

[ Trickster, huh? Loki did say something about there being more than one of him. ]

Which myth, if you don't mind my asking?

[ It had better be. Loki worked hard on Gramarye and he is very possessive of it. ]

The Norse mythos.

Oh wow.

[ Cue Caleb being rather impressed and also concerned that he may have annoyed a Norse god. They're not down for that, from what he remembers of his studies. ]

Did you build Gramarye then? I just started there.

[ Wow is still not a sentiment he hears often. ]

I did not. But I was the first to begin work there.

[ But it's a good sentiment! Awe is always good. ]

Then you've definitely got seniority over me, Norse [ airquote ] mythology [ /airquote ] aside. Not that it would take much; there's no real study of magic back home, at least not anything that doesn't have people assuming you're gonna wear a tin foil hat too.

[ Loki nods slowly. ]

I am aware that Midgard has a dearth of mages at this current point of time. They prefer their science to the possibilities of magic.

[ Dr. Strange exists, but Loki pretends he doesn't. ]

Life would probably be a lot different if people back home were less afraid of magic in general, but. There you have it.

If there is one thing I have learned of mortals, it is that they always need a scapegoat to get by.

[ Welp, that gives him a moment's pause. ]

I suppose there's something to that. But I tend to hope people will be better, in general, than they have been.

A common sentiment among humans.

[ Certainly all mortals seem to possess it. Loki doesn't see the need. ]

We have pretty short lifespans, I guess, and hope springs eternal.

Definitely not me. [ Caleb smiles, and gives a little shrug. ]

[ Loki clicks his tongue, bemused. ]

Why the interest in magic?

[wiccecraft]

Well, I'm supposed to research it, for one.

For another it's...part of my history and I want to learn more about it, how it works, how it doesn't.

[dothelokimotion]

You'll not find those answers by asking every mage in this city. All you'll get is perplexing answers of different worlds. Which might prove fruitful, but it'll not teach you the history of your own. That is a journey only you may undertake.

Yeah.

Unfortunately, all the books, the genealogies, and the histories were left back home. I thought this might be a good way to get people to talk about magic, too.

It might, but your question is rather . . . broad.

[ Though unsurprising if this man knows little of his history. ]

You'll get answers, but they may not help you find your own.

[ Caleb considers that, and doesn't shrug but it's a bit of a near thing. ]

Yeah. Mine will take time.

But perhaps not that much. As I said, Gramarye is well established.

[ Is he boasting? Probably a little. ]
