( The image that comes onto the screen is of a pristinely clean kitchen, obviously unused. It pans around for a minute, and then Dany appears, clothes and hair immaculate as those who've since met her may be accustomed to seeing by now. The expression on her face is cool out of habit, though her head is tilted, indicating that she's open to conversing, and curious. )
Prior to my arrival here, I cannot say there has been a single occasion upon which I've had to prepare or cook my own food. Not even when we crossed a desert.
( And then her expression twists, pinching into something remotely sheepish and rueful. )
Would that it were otherwise. I'm no great talent with this oven or stove; nor even with wood and flame. But I would know what sort of dishes you favoured back home, and if you might share toe recipes for them, if you know them.
—other than honeyed locusts, anyway. ( If they're to someone else's taste, fine; but yuck. ) I intend to learn.

( Her lips twitch a little at the corners, a small smile threatening to brighten her expression. )
I think your advice seems sound, lady. I'll attempt it, if you know the directions. It galls me to spend all my coin on food prepared by others.
( Not when she's not a Queen here, with comparatively unlimited funds at her disposal. )
» video
[And there's the laugh that she can't quite continue to hold back.]
I know the directions and I'm happy to help. I'm Izzy, by the way. [She lifts her hand in a confident, but small wave.] And no one can survive on takeout and takeout alone, unfortunately, for more than a few reasons, so I get it. [She's just lucky in the fact that she's got siblings to cook when her skills are pretty lacking.]
You're going to need eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and butter along with a bowl, fork, spatula, and a pan to cook in. [Izzy's good with theory in this particular subject, it's just the exection that still needs some work.]

I tried my best, and it is... quite the sight. It didn't end up all over the place, did it?
( Yes, she's sorely tempted to smile, too. )
Thank you, Izzy. My name is Daenerys. ( That confidence is a shared thing, and now she does actually smile. ) Good to meet you. It was different back home, when I had unlimited funds at my disposal by comparison to here. But my hope is we need not eat too lean to balance the books.
Very well; just a moment. ( And she types all that out into her app, too. ) And afterward?
» video
[The laughter in her voice is pretty clear. Izzy's amused and she doesn't mind if Daenerys is too, personally.]
Well, it's a pleasure to meet you too, Daenerys. [Yep, she pronunces that very carefully, so as not to mess up any of the syllables, and can't quite help but add.] And you have a very unique and beautiful name. [She likes it! That opinion isn't important and is definitely besides the point, but why not pay another woman a compliment? It's one of Izzy's specialties.] I'm sure you'll manage, were you assigned a job when you arrived? [She can't quite help the curiosity--it's one of the ways in which she's managed...even with her penchant for shopping, after all, but she's also not alone...she has family here with her.
And even with the request for a moment Izzy doesn't miss a beat or seem phased, just continuing.] Once you've got everything you crack the eggs into your bowl--however many you want to eat--and add in just a splash of milk and salt and pepper to your taste. So, if you like spicy, but not salty focus more on the pepper and vice versa. Then, you take your fork and you beat that mixture until it's all blended together. Then you set that aside and melt a tablespoon--or a little less--of butter on top of the stove in the pan. Once it's all melted and coating it you pour the egg mixture in!
[What has the world come to that *Isabelle Lightwood* is giving cooking instructions?]
» video i'm so sorry for how late this is!
( A nod of her head, a soft hum made beneath her breath. )
Unique enough in my family; only one other woman has borne it, to my knowledge. Thank you. ( It's... strange to hear, actually. This might just be a first for her. ) Community Ambassador, as it happens. Our hosts are aware that I am Queen in my country, and gave me the closest approximation here. Iromically, I'm more accustomed to war than politics. What about you?
Yeah, she's going to take her time writing that down, and possibly ask Isabelle to repeat a thing once or twice. When she's finished, she appears grateful, regarding her with some warmth.
Is there more? This is a kindness you do, lady; for my intended as much as myself.
» video it's so okay, I don't mind waiting a bit, holidays get busy!
You're welcome! [Again, never shy about sharing a compliment, or her thoughts. Izzy's always been outspoken in that way, in most ways, actually. The title of Daenerys' position does make her think about Draco before her having taken the job, at least before he left, anyway.] A Queen, wow! [The bearing and certain things don't make that statement quite as surprising, but the fact that she seems much different than the Seelie Queen with her games and cruelty for no reason, plus the ficle nature of seelies in general, is different. Especially because Izzy can't quite help but like the blonde woman from their interaction so far.] I suppose that is the closest related position here; I knew the man who worked in the position before you before he left, actually. [Izzy shares that with a smile, still not sure why Draco left, but she wasn't his friend quite long enough to be truly sad even if she wished he had said goodbye at the time.]
I'm a forensic pathologist at the police station here. Back home I did that plus I helped my family run the New York Institute and keeping people safe. So, from what I've seen they do a relatively good job of pairing people with jobs. [It definitely worked well with her and her family memebers.
Moving on from that, Izzy waits to make sure that she isn't overwhelming the other woman with information. After all, that won't help anything. Izzy's smile back is just as warm, friendly, and even open, though.] Oh, I'm happy to help! That goes with anything you might need as Community Ambassador too. [She waves it off but nods a bit, continuing her instructions.]
When the eggs are in you wait until they start to set and you can see where they're solidifying, and when they are you start to pull them across the pan and form curds. It's sort of like you're pulling, lifting, and folding them. You do that until the eggs look completely solid and there's no liquid left and it's just thick and fluffy, then you transfer it from the pan to plate and enjoy.

( More like a vocation. And she doesn't much agree with the things she's heard of the Night's Watch, such as not permitting its men to have families. )
Institute? ( That's a new word. ) I don't understand what it is that you do — does it make you happy?
( It seems like it, but one can never be sure. ) Thank you.
Is there some sauce to make to go with the eggs? I believe there was when we went out to ...a diner? I believe that's what it's called.

[He left a little too soon, as far as Izzy's concerned, but she can't tell someone else what to do. Smiling, though, Izzy nods at hearing her intended is a part of the Perimeter Guard. She's assuming that intended is her fiancee, for the moment.] My brother is part of the Perimeter Guard, so he's gin good company.
[Izzy bobs her head in a nod again before knowing that it's hard to convey exactly what the Intitute is, or what it does.] The Institute, the one I'm from anyway, is a base of sorts for shadowhunters; they're stationed there, so to speak. [Explaining what she does now is harder, but Izzy's pretty sure she can sum it up a little bit more effectively.] It does make me happy because I'm helping figure out why someone died, what caused it and sometimes it means I help solve murders.
[And, in her mind, that's helping people. Nodding to the thanks, Izzy really is happy to talk to any and everyone, especially if it's an interesting interaction. And this definitely qualifies.] It depends on the person. Some people like them plain, some with salsa, some with hotsauce, some syrup.... other recipes - where you make the eggs different - you'll make a sauce but they're good as is. I'd say taste it and see if you like them as is, if not go by what taste you'd like at the moment - salsa if you want a variety, hotsauce if you want spice, cheese if you like cheese. That's the nice thing about eggs you can go by your own tastes and they're kind of simple.
