[He's been here a little bit. Hasn't engaged much. Figured he was having one hell of a fever dream after getting bit. Course, he couldn't remember getting bit, but what else could it have been? Only it hadn't gone away and the food he'd been eating seemed real enough and the people he'd been ignoring acted offended enough to be real, too.
So... maybe it was real. Weirder shit had happened.
And if it was, it might do him some good to actually start figuring his own shit out. Including how to actually use this thing.]
I ain't never used one of these
smart phones I think they're called
before. They had them before but I never
anyway I only ever had a flip phone
one I could text on.
How's this thing work?

Talk to people I guess
Get it to stop beeping at all hours would be nice too
no subject
Why is it beeping? Is it an alarm or is it notifications?
no subject
You can set an alarm with it?

[He's... really not used to these things. And he doesn't exactly want to turn off the sound. If he can find the alarms, he might want to actually use that. Maybe.]
Does it have a button? It on the side next-
[Give him a minute.]
That was the power button. It don't have a button for settings.

Just tell me where to find it.
Come show me if you can't.
no subject
Um. I can just show you, I guess.
no subject
Yeah. Do that. Where you at?

Action
When he spots the other man he gives a small jerk of his chin in greeting before speaking on the soft side.]
Hey. You uh... Altin?
[He pronounces it as 'AL-teen']
no subject
Altin.
[ He corrects, his tone is quiet, and he understands. It makes sense, not like it is a name people really hear outside of Kazakhstan. ]
D.Dixon, then?
[ He tilts his head. ]
Otabek is fine, by the way.
no subject
Daryl.
[He was going to assume Otabek was the guy's first name. He preferred his, too.]
You cook for the floor?
[he wasn't exactly close enough to see the names on the containers.]
no subject
[ He steps around, because rather than do it for Daryl, he intends to show him how to do it. He sets the phone down on the prep area of the counters, and he hits a button in the bottom of the right screen. ]
First, notifications.
[ Clearly, he spends a lot of time on his own phone so he finds the settings option with ease in the list of things there. ]
Here. This is where notifications are.
[ He feels like he should let Daryl do this. ]
no subject
He nodded when the guy pointed out where notifications were, but didn't look too happy about it. It was already bad enough he had to put his fingers on the screen to type in the letters, they had to put the settings 'button' on the same set up? What if he ended up pressing too hard one of these days and breaking the damn thing?
Rather than reach out and take over, Daryl brought one hand up to his chin to brush over the scruff there while he waited for the Otabek to do all the fiddling. Better if he broke it than Daryl. He might actually know how to fix it.]
Okay. Once you turn 'em off, can you show me where the alarm is?
no subject
[ When Daryl doesn't take the phone, he takes over. The answer comes simply and easily. He navigates quickly through the phone. He's clearly used to using them. Social media's a big thing back home, and though he uses it infrequently, he still uses it. He doesn't seem too concerned about touching the screen too hard, either. He knows how hard it is to break or damage a phone.
He goes through the notifications settings, and turns off the sound and vibrate for them. That way he'll still get them, but he won't have sounds every time. ]
The alarm is easy.
[ It's different on every phone, he knows, but hopefully this one is easy. He backs out of everything, goes to his home screen, and presses his fingers hard on the screen. There's an option that pops up, and it gives him options to add the clock, an alarm, etc. He selects the alarm, and it drops a small tool on his screen. ]
Just click on this and you can set the time to whatever you need. You can change it anytime.
no subject
Still mostly keeping his hands to himself, he shifted his weight and nodded at the phone, pointing and circling his finger to indicate 'all of that']
How'd you do that?
no subject
I press on the screen, and wait for the options to add an alarm.
[ He's not overly gentle. Not worried about a phone breaking or anything like that. He has no reason to worry about it. When the option pops up, he waits a moment. ]
Just one tap and there's the alarm on here.
[ He moves the phone towards Daryl. ]
Just select that alarm, and you can set a time.
no subject
Why do you gotta press and hold to get that? Why ain't it on there already?
no subject
Who knows.
[ The answer comes simply, but he's glad (even if it doesn't show on his face) that Daryl has figured this part out. Being able to set an alarm was a helpful trick. ]
You can even add multiple alarms.
