[ A video comes on, and what's most clear is that on the right side of his face is covered in blood, and there's a crack in the corner of his orange-glasses. It's pretty clear right away that he's been off fighting or doing something. ]

Oh my, oh my - just when I get a new pair. Already. What a waste. I'll have to go out and find new and be more careful next time!

[ As if he will be. ]

So - can anyone recommend a good tailor and dry cleaner? I --

[ He shifts the camera, and pans it down the front of his suit. On his chest, there's several holes and dried blood. Several of the holes seem to go clear through the shirt underneath, too. ]

Ruined my favorite suit. Ran into a little trouble.

[ Hah - yeah - a little. He seems amused by this, so he starts to laugh a little. ]

Looks like someone had fun.

[Ivar's got skewed priorities on what constitutes as fun around here.]

It was a blast. Glad to know someone can appreciate it!

So did you kill whatever did that or just hurt them badly?

[If it had been Ivar, that's what he would have done anyway.]

Killed it. Please, I'm not going to let something that destroyed my suit live.

Then I think there's a strong possibility you and I might get along.

Is that so?

Definitely so. On a scale of one to ten, how much did you enjoy killing whatever-it-was?

It was fairly boring. I like a good fight.

So do I. Killing someone who doesn't put of much of one is no fun at all.

Yes! So, considering that - it was about a three, maybe four when it got my eye.

Did it try and take your eye out?

[That sounds painful. And also still with the possibility of fun.]

It did take my eye out.

[ It healed though - so the pain has long since passed. ]

[That statement gets a slow and confused headtilt from Ivar. You can almost see the gears whirring around in his mind.]

....And it, what? Grew back?

More or less. Eventually, at least.

[ At least he knows that they can do that. ]

People can do that where you're from?

[One day, he'll stop being surprised by what powers he learns people have here.]

Only a few of us. My family, really.

[ Sort of. It's weird like that. ]

Now that's a useful skill to possess. I could use it myself.

[He could only imagine how much more reckless he could be in battle if Ivar knew he could heal.]

I think a lot of people could use it, but do they deserve it?

[ He does make it sound like a positive thing. Something earned and worthwhile, but he paid pretty heavily for this. ]

Does anyone deserve what they get?

[Had he been deserving of a painful disease that robbed him of the ability to walk and left him in a society that regarded him as nothing? Probably not, but it had happened anyway.]

Some, yes. I feel like I deserve this. I've earned it.

[ Though he doesn't think that people always get what they deserve. ]

Sometimes in life, you have to get what you want through perseverance and hard work. It's the only way I've ever gotten anything myself.

[Every scrap of respect had been earned the hard way, proving that he was just as good as any other Viking, deserving of being called a warrior.]

Sometimes it's a prize for surviving when others couldn't.

[ He was never stronger, really. Or better. Just...he happened to be lucky enough to live. ]

I know that feeling well.

[No one had ever suspected Ivar to live more than a few weeks. When it became apparent he was going to live, many thought he wouldn't make it past childhood. But always, he'd been tough enough to defy everyone's expectations. The only way he was going to die was a proper Viking death on the battlefield.]

Survivors are always the best at living.

[ He finds, at least. They appreciate and don't waste time away. Or - at least - survivors like himself, and apparently - Ivar. ]

Of course. They're generally the toughest and smartest people, so of course they make it through when no one else does.
