One of the things people don't do often is talk about the good things they've done or have right now. Sometimes being away from home is hard, so sharing helps!

So what's one good thing in your life right now? Yesterday, I got a cat out of a tree! It wasn't very happy but the owner thanked me a lot.

Speaking of, how are things with your brothers? I don't think I asked before.

[bestrobin]

Yes. Richard Grayson. My former partner.

( Damian hesitated at the question. For a moment, he even considered ignoring it. But instead, he answered: )

Fine. Why?

( They're not fine. Things are still awkward with Richard as they feel each other out and he stole Todd's helmet. Who's Tim Drake? )

Just curious. You're my partner.

It can't be easy with them being here but their memories are all over the place.

How are things with your father?

( This is how these exchanges are supposed to go, right? )

I wouldn't be Batman's better half if I let it hinder me.

[ Jon rolls his eyes. ]

We're good. Dad and I are taking care of Annie most of the time. She's from Krypton.

It may not hinder, but it probably still sucks. My dad and mom didn't even know me or were married. It got to me all the time.

[bestrobin]

I've seen her. She was asleep at the time. Your father and I had lunch a few weeks ago.

Only one of them matters to me. We're working through it.

( He's lying. All of them mean something to him, even if he won't admit it. Richard in particular is the one who means the most, though. And the one that matters here and now. )

[supersweet]

You had lunch with my dad?? How come?

Well I'm glad you're working on it. You can still talk to me if you want.

[bestrobin]

I had something to discuss with him.

Talking to you won't make him remember me, idiot.

[supersweet]

Like what?

I didn't say it would, Damian. I know better than that.

[bestrobin]

​It was about Richard.

That's the only thing that would make me feel better, Jon.

[ . . . Oh. ]

It shouldn't be the only thing.

Why not?

( Richard loves him. What else could replace that feeling? )

Because . . . the world's bigger than you think. It doesn't have to replace it to find other good things.

[bestrobin]

( It takes a minute for Damian to respond.

Okay, more like a few, long minutes. But when he does- )

There are a couple of good things here, I suppose.

[ He perks up. ]

[ Aww. Jon's heart warms at that. ]

Yeah, I'm glad you're here too. No one gets stuff like you do.

Yeah.

( That's his way of saying he knows what Jon means. )

And we're partners. Partners stick together.
