I'm just curious how many people here are vigilantes back home. You know, superheroes, masked crime-fighters, whatever you're called, with or without special powers.

Are any of you doing that kind of work here? How did you get into it, either here or at home? Do you have a secret identity or does everyone know who you are?

I'm using a burner phone for obvious reasons. If you're doing the secret identity thing, I don't mind anonymous posts or private messages.

Back home there's just me and my partner, but I've been still going out on patrol here. Even if it's not AS necessary with as many others there are. I joined up with the Perimeter Guard also. Search and Rescue.

What is a superhero?

So there are a lot here. I haven't heard a lot about them, but then again, I haven't really been looking closely. Caught up with my day job.

[That's so weird to think. Day job.]

Obviously, I'm thinking of starting out. Has the PG been good to you?

[causational]

Someone with exceptional powers who fights crime and saves people. A lot of them wear masks and hide their identities to protect their loved ones. Some of them don't. There are people like that who don't have exceptional powers too, but they're the 'super' part is usually reserved for the ones that do. Or at least that's how it is back in my home.

[ There's something vaguely familiar about the 'Cobalt Blue' handle, though Wally doesn't know why that is. It's not an uncommon occurrence considering he has memories from another life buried somewhere in his head. ]

I got inspired by a hero back home and was lucky enough to get the chance to be his partner. Pretty simple as far as beginnings go.

As for here, things are pretty quiet compared to what I'm used to unless I go outside the wall. I have a secret identity back home, but I really don't know how important that is in this place.

Was it the 'danger to friends and family' thing that made you keep it secret back home? I worked with a hero myself, so I saw first-hand the havoc that wreaked on his life. I'm kind of hoping I can have my cake and eat it too here.

Some of them keep to themselves, I think. Different patrol routes, different times. I haven't run into any recently, come to think of it.

Yeah, I mean, I only work with them on a part time basis, but I can't complaina bout what I've seen from them so far. There was a fire a few weeks ago, and the responders were pretty quick, which is good.

That's a huge part of it. Another was it could be hard to have a normal life when everyone knows who you are. Like I said, I'm not sure how relevant those concerns are here.

But just remember it isn't something you can take back.

Is there something wrong with the law enforcement on these worlds? I assume vigilantism isn't encouraged.

I'll definitely keep the PG in mind then. Sounds like a pretty positive review.

Can I ask what it's like where you come from? Unless it would out you.

Usually vigilantism isn't encouraged, but at least where I come from, there's been an upsurge in criminals who have special powers that are stronger than the average person. Sometimes the police force can't keep up, and that's where the superheroes come in.

That makes a lot of sense. Have you been open about what you do here, and did it change anything? I mean, it's a little tough to have a normal life in a place like this, unless the place you come from is similar or you've been here a long time.

Yeah. That's why I thought I'd ask for some advice first.

But are they really under no jurisdiction?

I haven't been going around telling just anyone about it, but keeping it a secret hasn't been as big a priority as it was back home, either. There hasn't been any trouble so far. Though I haven't ruffled some whack job's feathers yet.

[ Wally imagines having someone like Abra Kadabra, who knows his identity, here would make his life hell. ]

[A bit. It's all pretty hard to deal with, honestly.]

When I left, there was no jurisdiction or laws set up for them, but people barely believed there were people with superpowers, let alone prepared to make laws about them.

I might go about it that way. I hate the idea of lying to the people I care about. And honestly, I'm a terrible liar, so they'd probably figure it out pretty quickly anyway.

Haven't run into an evil nemesis yet?

I see. That would make it difficult. I suppose the Jedi operate similarly but we cannot simply do as we please. We answer to the government even when we take a neutral stance.

I understand that. Having to keep it a secret from my aunt back home was definitely the one thing I hated about what I did.

[ But Barry had stressed the importance of a secret identity and he trusted Barry. ]

Not yet. Can't exactly say I'm in a hurry to replace the crazies from back home with new ones here. Last thing I need is one from home showing up and getting jealous. Most of the action I get here is with the Guard.

The Jedi?

That sounds a lot like how things are probably going to end up where I'm from. It's just that those regulations haven't been put in place yet, the laws haven't been adjusted. It's really new.

At least I hope they get some kind of regulation. Vigilantism can get really messy if there's no neutral third party ensuring things are on the level.

I had to keep a secret from my ex-girlfriend about it for way too long, back home. I don't think I could handle doing something like that again.

I've seen a couple people mention the Guard. Can you join that while wearing the mask?

The Guard is pretty good at keeping things quiet if that's what you're asking. I mean, I haven't had any issues working with the search and rescue unit on that front.

[That would be surprising, and maybe a little reassuring.]I'll keep it in mind. The Guard is definitely on my list of places I might try things out, at least while I'm still learning.
