[The camera clicks on at an awkward angle at first, but soon the young man in a tunic and leather armor manages to right his device and set it on a table. He takes a few steps back to address it with a sheepish smile.] So, uh. Hello, everyone. Wow, this place is something else. A box that allows for instant communication... It's faster than terror-mail! I could really use some of these back home. Uh, anyway.

I've heard a lot about the Perimeter Guard, namely that you guys, uh. Kill monsters. [There's a slight, involuntary cringe at that, as if his soft heart can't quite take the thought. It's startled off him and back into a smile, though, when a large black creature stalks into the room, wide green eyes fixed curiously on him, and then the device.] This is just a little, you know, public service announcement. [Suddenly, the screen blacks out - or, more accurately, becomes filled with the shiny black scales of a Night Fury as Toothless leans in to sniff at the camera.]

C'mon, bud, I think you're- Toothless, don't-! [Toothless makes a sound almost like barks of rumbly laughter, and- then a pink tongue fills the screen. Hiccup wrestles the device back, and now the video is... a little bit watery. The dragon is back on his haunches, 'smiling' a big, gummy smile. Hiccup's voice is dry as he continues.] This is Toothless. He's my dragon, and my best friend, and he's not dangerous unless you threaten him, so if you see him around the city, you know, he's... he's not a monster. [As he fumbles with it, trying to wipe off dragon drool, Hiccup mutters just before it cuts out,] You know this doesn't wash out.

[Marco has a sardonic, crooked little smile as he responds, one brow raised high.]

Dude. You have a pet dragon? That is totally awesome.

[His voice might be a bit dry, but the excitement is genuine.]

Holy shit that's the weirdest dragon I've ever seen, I love him.

[Hiccup has managed to get his phone wiped off, and thankfully the case that came with it is waterproof. The person who had given it to him and showed him how to use it had thought it might come in handy.]

Yeah, Toothless is pretty amazing- [Was that a crash in the background? That was a crash. Probably a floor lamp in the common area of Floor 1. He breathes out a slightly exasperated laugh and runs a hand through his hair.] -most of the time, anyway.

Um. Thank you? [He assumes that was meant to be a compliment...] He's a Night Fury.

[Marco can't help but chuckle.]

Man, every pet does some property damage and I bet a dragon's tough to house-train.

[A beat, and then...]

So, why Hiccup?

Are you serious right now. Is that really a fucking dragon. Is it your pet?! Holy shit- that's so cool!!! [ Yuri has seen a lot of strange things since arriving in Riverview- in all honesty it's not even the first dragon he's seen, the Behemoth counted too. But this? Was totally different. A docile pet dragon. Shit.

Shit. Oh god he was totally going to have to ask Eddie if he could have one at the apartment! ] Oh my god, if anyone mistakes him for a monster I'll kick their ass myself. He is WAY too awesome.

[ And because Yuri is excited, intrigued and curious- his white tiger ears have sprouted from in his hair, his teeth sharpening a little. He's still trying to get the hang of how his powers work, and when he's not thinking about it? Well, they can get the better of him, for sure. ]

Man, his species has a badass name, too? Please tell me it spits fire instead of acid.

He's usually pretty good, it's all this new stuff. He's curious. Honestly I know the feeling, so I can't blame him too much. [Electric lights and phones and televisions are pretty wild when you've never seen them before.]

I dunno, I guess because I was born early and I was kind of a runt? You'd have to ask my dad. [And then-] Oh, oh wait, did you mean-? It's my name. In orientation, they said to put my name there.

Plasma blasts, actually! What kind of dragons are you familiar with? Do they spit acid?

Oh yeah, really cool. [He says it dryly and pans the camera around to where Toothless is rolled over on his back in a communal common room, next to a knocked over floor lamp, foot stuck in the shade. He's trying to shake it off like an overgrown cat with a piece of tape on its foot.] Behold the unholy offspring of lightning and death itself.

[Despite startling the Perimeter Guard orientation folks when they first came through the portal, Toothless has gotten a pretty good reception here in Riverview. It's a good thing, definitely, if a little strange, but Hiccup supposes if you didn't grow up with dragon attacks, you wouldn't have any prejudices against them. It's refreshing.] He's- well, he's more than a pet. He's family. And, uh, hopefully no ass kicking is necessary! That's the whole point of making this video... [Hiccup laughs a little, if slightly nervously, and can't help but pause, then.

He sort of motions to the top of his own head.] You have, uh. Are those-?

Oh shit, that's awesome. I love him.

...and yeah, the black ones do. They breathe different things depending on their scales. Black ones are usually evil assholes too, but yours seem like a sweetheart.

That seems weird, color doesn't usually have a whole lot of bearing on what sort of fire a dragon has where I come from. It can definitely hint as to what kind of environment it lives in, but the classification is usually what you'd consider first. [Sorry he's a total dragon nerd.]

And dragons aren't evil! [He looks up and off camera. Somewhere in the background, Toothless makes an indignant noise.] She said you're a sweetheart at least?

It does where I do. Like... blue ones breathe lightning, I think? Some breathe ice, too. [She's not a total dragon nerd but hey cool creatures are cool.]

Aw, I didn't mean to upset him or nothing. He's totally a sweetheart! Different worlds and all. Pretty sure dragons can turn into people in mine, so they can be just as evil as people - or good.

He doesn't look like a monster.

[Because, well...Toothless isn't about to eat any of them, so...it's all good. Still, she hasn't seen anything like him before. Lizard-esque people, sure, but something like Toothless? No.]

[As Hiccup sees the video starts, he may notice the good professor's head is somehow covered in bandages and he is somehow in a hospital bed. Though that doesn't stop him from seeing the new resident.]

Oh, my. I often have seen a Dragon-type Pokemon before, but never a creature similar to one.

He's not! But we did startle some of the orientation people when we came through the portal, so. I thought it would be a good idea to kind of clear things up, I guess. Even if he'll usually be with me, I don't want anything to happen to him.

Huh. [Well, he guesses that makes it easier to classify dragons at a glance. Still, it makes his tender heart sad to know that some dragons, somewhere, are considered evil (even if they maybe are, he wouldn't know).] That's really interesting. Maybe we can compare notes sometime!

[He looks up across the room at Toothless, and smiles fondly.] He's just a big baby, you didn't upset him that much. [Toothless audibly huffs out a little growl, and soon the camera jostles as he flops down on top of Hiccup.] Oof, viking down. Sorry, bud-

Wait, dragons turn into people where you're from? That's real?

Eh, not a dragon expert. I just think they're neat. I can totally tell you what I know over some ice cream or something one day, though.

[She shrugs, and then beams as Toothless knocks him over. That was adorable.

Lup doubts he'd understand the animal language she picked up on one of the worlds she went to, but she can't help making a chirp or two just to test.]

Mmhm. They can like... turn into anything they want. They're mad intelligent, too. Like, smarter than people?

I think anyone else would've done the same, especially to protect a friend.

But what's terror-mail?

[Max's eyes are wide with amazement as he answers with a video of his own.] Your best friend is a dragon? How did that happen? ... And what's terror-mail?

[ just kinda staring. ]

Yeah, not going to lie, but the last dragon I came across, I had to kill. Not just here, either. How do you know it- he's safe?

Also, what in Hades is terror-mail....?

He's... really cute.

Like a really large cat.

He came through with you?

[ al's never seen a dragon. he's seen a lot, done a lot, but this is new for him. he gasps, eyes wide and he grins as toothless licks the screen. in a way, al's reminded of a dog. ]

He's cute!

[ Yuri can't help the laughter that sparks out of him at seeing Toothless struggle with the lamp shade, fighting it off with a true inelegant attempt at forced elegance only cats and cat-like creatures could manage. It was both hilarious, and absolutely adorable. ] Crap, that's way too cute.

Can he talk? [ Because the suggestion of him being family, a best friend- Yuri understands the sentiment. Potya is family, Potya was his best friend when he had no one else in the world- she might have been just a cat, but she was more than that; important. Still, a dragon is sort of a whole... different thing. And he didn't have very much experience in the realm of dragons, it seemed like talking might have been a thing they could be able to do? He had heard of stories like that back home, anyway. ]

What are what? [ Yuri squints at Hiccup, before running a hand up over his head, feeling up one of his own ears. ] -Oh. Sorry, that uh... I'm still getting the hang of it. Turning into a tiger. [ They sank away, disappeared with the ease that they had grown out of his head, a bemused smile passing his features. ] They gave me that here. The ability to do it.

[That gets a bright laugh out of Hiccup and he shakes his head.] No. He can understand a lot, he's really smart most of the time,- [He is trying to chew a lampshade off his foot, so.] -but dragons can't talk. That doesn't mean they don't have their own way of communicating, with humans and with each other, but it's not speech. [Despite how bright Hiccup knows his Night Fury is, he's still an animal, who thinks and reacts differently than humans ever might.

But wait. What? What.] You turn into a tiger? They can- make it so people can do that here?
