[it's steve's first time on the network, though anyone who's met the other steve might need a second glance. he's sitting on his bed, a box of cookies on one side, and a familiar shield propped up against his knee.]

So I guess I'm not one of the new kids anymore. [there's new names, new faces - some familiar ones too.] For anyone who just got here, it's okay if you feel a little bit overwhelmed. I woke up once before and the world had changed, so I guess I might've been a little more prepared for it than most. My advice is to keep busy if you can - they say action is the antidote to despair. Find your friends too, or make new ones. There's no shortage of good people here.

[that's not his cue, but might as well make his introduction here.]

My name's Steve Rogers - the other one. If I can lend a hand with something, if you need an escort beyond the fences, just say the word. [steve glances down, gripping the edge of his shield for a moment.] Someone must've gone through some trouble to get this back to me. I figure I owe it to them to put it to good use.

Now, if it's the cookies you're asking about... [steve sighs, like that requires a little more consideration.] They're really good, but my ma did teach me to share. I bet I could get some more, maybe even some homemade ones.

[that little smirk has 'right, sam?' written all over it.]

[Sam raises an eyebrow at the shield. That's a surprise, and he can't help but wonder how he got it. But it sounds like Steve doesn't know, either, so asking him won't do any good.]

If you need someone to watch your back, you know where to find me.

[Especially if he's planning on doing something stupid by himself. But that should go without saying.]

I always do. The real question is why you would want me to.

[steve is well aware of the trouble that he manages to find.]

Gotta have something to do other than sit in my office and play Angry Birds all day.

[Although he does plenty, between morning jogs and working out, plus picking up the odd patrol with the Perimeter Guard here and there. Mostly, he thinks Steve needs someone to keep him from doing the really dumb stuff.]

Keeping busy as a distraction is good advice. [The voice on the other line is a little soft, but pensive.]

Um, I was wondering about something else you said, though. "The other one"?

[He hadn't exactly known that this Steve was missing his shield when he got here, but he hadn't exactly not known either, judging from some of the reactions he's gotten while carrying his own.]

Maybe now your friends will stop acting like I stole my shield from you.

[He's not going to reply to this, that would pretty much be giving a big red sign that he had got the shield back. But he will be watching with interest.]

For how long have you been here, Roger-san? [ somehow, he knows the answer will be "about a month" because that's what most people have been giving him, but he wishes to make sure ]

So that's what we're going with? "The other one"?

It's a sight for sore eyes.

[ the shield, that is. Another thing she never thought she'd see again, lost with Steve as it was. But then, here is the man so of course the shield shouldn't come as a surprise.

[ it seems to be one of his many fortes. ]

Oh that. There's two of us here, different realities. It happens.

I'm sorry about that. I guess they're just not used to seeing me without it. I hadn't put it down for long before I came here.

[he's not sure he's in a hurry for that, not with peggy who still makes him feel like no time has passed at all.]

Ah, well. [steve ducks his head sheepishly.] They haven't exiled me beyond the fences yet. That's a good sign, right?

You can just call yourself Steve. You don't need to compare yourself to anyone.

You know, one thing I've learned is that rest and relaxation gets pretty goddamn boring when you have too much of it. Gotta have a nice balance of action so you can appreciate the down time more.

[Besides, Steve doesn't hold a monopoly on stupid. Sam had a building collapse on him a couple weeks ago; clearly he needs Steve just as much as Steve needs him.]

How'd your world change overnight?

[He's still edging on disbelief here but it's getting harder and harder to make that sale. Also, he's shit with these things they been given, so he's typing out his response while the video picks up on him and shows his very confused squinty face looking down at the screen.]

Ought to be, yes; though that hardly answers my question.

[ though now she wagers a guess - ]

If you've taken on baking, my favourites are crumpets.

[ she does so miss good old-fashioned crumpets. ]

[ A tiny bit of curiosity is sparked when he sees he shield... ]

What do you do to keep yourself busy here? [He has a few ideas already, but it never hurts to hear the opinion of people who have been here for a while.]

What, really? [He pauses.] It must get confusing. Is there any way to tell the difference between you two?

I'll remember that in the future. I just didn't want to confuse anyone any more than I had to. It's a lot to wrap a person's head around.

It just felt that way. I'd been out of commission for a few decades.

[things had changed, especially technology. it isn't often that steve's able to offer anyone help in that department, but he can see the man struggling.]

Yeah. I guess it's what some people would call "old school", but it works out just fine for me.

I work with the Perimeter Guard, help out with the Emergency Services if I'm needed. I run. [tries to convince his best friend to not run. there was a mission and a potluck in there somewhere.] I've been thinking of taking sketching back up again.

He's a little bit older. I hate to say it, but he's probably got broader shoulders too. Side by side, you wouldn't have a problem. It's just if people didn't know.
