[She is on a rooftop, one hand - almost protectively - on her abdomen. She looks content enough, her gaze fixed on the horizon. What she looks for is only known to her.]

What do you think of one person - one soul - living multiple lives? There are religions that embrace it, but to others it is considered...wrong; maybe even evil.

[Wicked punishments for wicked angels. She sits near the edge of the roof, dangling her legs as if she is not several stories up.]

I wished to be a man. I thought my life would be easier. But I was being naive.

The goddess of the natural order of life and death is, I'd say, decidedly in charge of that.

[ This is obviously something he has some residual irritation about, though he is trying to be polite and not too annoyed just now. ]

If those rules don't apply to your god, then maybe they should. It might have prevented... whatever trouble it is you've run into.

There was only one god in my world. He had many angels to serve him, of course, but certainly no goddesses to rival him.

[Except for, technically, her. She is one of his most powerful creations.]

A punishment from heaven is never simple or easy to bear. I chose to rebel; I was caught and sentenced.

[ Seems like an unwieldy, top-heavy system to him, but what does he know. He's just another one of those 'technically divine but not really' creatures himself. ]

[Yes, it is. It is also apparently a computer simulation. A divine one!]

So heaven is always right?

Someone has to have the last word. If not them, who?

[ If you're suspecting that Kravitz is centuries old and has never once defied his particular divine patron, you'd be absolutely right. ]

Why does anyone have to have the last word? Why can't we make our own judgements? [Hi, she's the complete opposite and she's not sorry for it.]

A million people with a million ideas of what's right and wrong - if everyone just made it all up, there'd be chaos. It's a nice idea I suppose, but if one man judges evil what another man sees as just, who do you listen to?

That's for humans to decide. Like you said, their situations differ and that affects their perspectives. The god I knew didn't lift a finger to help anyone no matter how much they were suffering. The only time he acted was -

[Her voice tightens.] - to confuse my brother and to keep his angels separated. We weren't allowed to feel anything deeper than friendship for our fellows. I was even denied that when it came to my brother.

[ ... Well, that's a lot worse than the Raven Queen has ever done to him. He takes a second to formulate his answer. ]

I'm sorry that the god you knew was so... callous. I suppose that's the problem when you have one above all. I'd like to think that where I come from, a god not doing their job would be at least in some way dealt with by the others.

[ In other words, just 'cause your guy sucks doesn't mean my mom is in any way fallible, okay?! ]

In any case, seems we're both away from them now. I'm not sure what forces govern this place.

Spreading power between multiple deities can make its own problems. What if they all turned out like the god I knew? Then a whole group would need to be killed.

[And, believe her, it wasn't easy killing one.]

We'll find out soon enough. They must have a plan.

Evil gods can be overthrown. Mortals can become gods through deeds. Mine did.

[ The idea of killing one - well, he knows it can be done, because as he said, his goddess did just that to get where she is. But Kravitz is and for the most part always has been a willing servant. He's never thought about having to step up in that way. ]

[For her, mortals need to possess special souls - i.e. the souls of angels - to even come close to defying god.]

Every so often a god becomes tyrannical, evil, as the previous god of death was. And they get... arrogant. The fastest way to be overthrown is to convince yourself you can't be.

I'm not sure I follow?

[The power is either there or not...right?]

You make a fine point. [She had used that against her god. Pride goeth before the fall.] He did not expect for us to react as we did. That was his failing.

If the power exists, it can be taken. If not by force, then...

[ Well, by trickery. ]

You sound like you're doing better, at least. As long as you keep sight of that.

I can only imagine that being done by physically taking the power into your body.

[She knows a little bit about that.]
