I don't know how many people celebrate this, but today is Pi Day. Pi is a mathematical constant, with the first three numbers being three, one and four. Most people just celebrate by baking or eating pies. I made one for my daughter's math class.
Pi itself is actually very fascinating, though. It was originally defined as the ratio of a circle's circumference, but now it's used in many formulas in math and physics. Its decimal presentation never settles into a permanent repeating pattern.
But, ah... I'm sure most people just care about the pie.

[that gets his attention] When I first met Regina, I told her to call me whatever made her comfortable. So I'll say the same to you.

Are you sure? [ He wants her to pick? Well...that’s a bit hard but something does come to mind...] Papa...would that work?

[if he's quiet, it's only because he's overwhelmed] "Papa" works fine.

[ She looks a little concerned. That maybe she picked the wrong word. But he says it’s okay...so maybe she should test it out. ]
...what time will you be home tonight, Papa?

[ Oh...he might be gone all night then? ]
So...when you do work nights, do you want to try and cook dinner? If we have a slow cooker, it’ll cook throughout the day and everything should be ready when you get home. Emma...[ There’s a sad smile there. ] was thinking of getting one.

She was there at night...and if she couldn’t be, you were there.
I could sleep at the hospital? Or...maybe ask Jefferson?

Does your schedule change every week? Or is it more or less steady? I could make a calendar for it, or we could use our phones and sync up a calendar.

We'll work on the calendar together when I get home.

[She can't believe she's saying this but...]
...Maybe you could ask Jim, if he's up for it.

[Said with the straightest face she could muster....and then smiles.]
Kidding, Papa. I'm...I'm trying. So, if he's free and you need to work...you could ask him to watch me.

All right, I'll ask. Thank you for including him.

Welcome, Papa.

Is there rainbow poker?

[he chuckles] Afraid not.
no subject
...Well, we'll do straight poker and Texas Hold 'Em.

[It feels good calling him that, and once he's home, she'll be able to hug him and help him get dinner ready again.]
