I don't know how many people celebrate this, but today is Pi Day. Pi is a mathematical constant, with the first three numbers being three, one and four. Most people just celebrate by baking or eating pies. I made one for my daughter's math class.

Pi itself is actually very fascinating, though. It was originally defined as the ratio of a circle's circumference, but now it's used in many formulas in math and physics. Its decimal presentation never settles into a permanent repeating pattern.

But, ah... I'm sure most people just care about the pie.

That's true. Not to mention, this place is very different. Who's to say they don't have their own mathematical quirks, too.

Well, you mentioned a daughter...is she here?

Then at least you get some sort of insight into what might be different? I mean, I've never been to the schools here but I would imagine what they teach is what's relevant to those who've always been here.

You're a teacher as well, then?

Oh. Well that's nice that you help her out, at least. Not all kids are that lucky.
