( The feed starts with a wobble, Clarice ignoring the swoop of fear and nausea that washes through her to tighten her grip on her phone. )

Hi.

( She smiles, and it looks easy even though it's not. She's made no effort to hide her mutation, unnaturally green eyes bright in the light of her apartment, pink mark over one of them. The only thing that isn't obvious are her ears, and the fact that she can rip holes in space. But she's trying to look approachable. She's sitting cross-legged on the floor, her back to the couch. Her free hand moves restlessly, seems to be petting something off camera as she gears up to speak. )

Um, my name's Clarice. I got here a couple of months ago, and I figured now would be a good time to say hey and maybe ask some questions. ( Blowing out a breath. She can do this. ) I've noticed that some of us - the displaced - are a little young, and it got me wondering if anyone had set up something to make sure they're being properly cared for? Not like a foster home, because we've all been given beds and sh --. Stuff. ( Motherfucker. ) But more for emotional support? One of those big brother-slash-big sister schemes. Making sure they're safe, or uh, that they're eating proper food instead of candy bars. Or even just to talk. Because it's hard enough for anyone ending up here, but I know I would have been freaked out as a kid.

( Another pause, and then --. )

Actually, I've been through the whole world turned upside down high school thing, so even if there's not and anyone wants to talk about it, or just have someone to rant to? My phone's always on me. And if I'm not good enough then there's always Zingo. ( She angles the camera now to take in the dog sitting at her side. ) Who is definitely a good judge of character and requires so many hugs. You'd be doing me a favour. My arm's getting sore.

( There, she's done, she's made it through the broadcast and can now panic a little off-screen. ) Okay, thanks!

From what other people have told me, it is? I was born with the X-Gene. It gave me the power to teleport. And uh, the obvious. ( Her somewhat freaky face. She's trying to bolster her self-esteem lately but it's taking a while.

I think if we pool our skills together we might be able to get something going that hits all the bases. I can't cook, so that'd definitely be a thing I'd need help with. I live off of poptarts and pizza pockets. It isn't pretty.

( A pause. )

Or nutritious. But I know a bunch of people here like cooking, so maybe even if it was just a once in a while thing.

It would be interesting to figure out what make-up goes with your hair and makes your eyes really pop. Teleporting is cool, not having to wait for an elevator must be amazing.

*Don't mind Lola, she's just easily distracted by new challenges. And, on occasion, coming up with the most mundane solutions using impressively powerful abilities.*

As much as pizza pockets are great, they are definitely a once in a while food and not an everyday food. What is with so many adults just not knowing how a kitchen works? I don't really have the budget for lowering prices to help the needy, but maybe if I get the cantina off the ground I can make that a thing...

*Lola's last idea there is more said to herself, and it's just incidental that it can be heard by others. She wants to help but she is aware that budgeting and accounting are things she has to keep in mind. Even if she has a guy to do that for her. She can't just declare feeding unhealthy adults and lonely kids. But she really wants to.*

Honestly? I can just about figure out eyeliner and mascara. ( Because while she didn't want to draw anymore attention to herself she's also still an alt girl at heart. She needs that eyeliner. ) I wouldn't know where to start.

( Clarice laughs at the elevator comment, a proper genuine laugh as she shrugs. ) Yeah, it's pretty cool. ( Complicated, but still cool. ) You ever think about doing lessons? You could probably charge a pretty buck for them, especially if there's a lot of people like me who might die of malnutrition one day. And obviously, if I did this thing I wouldn't be angling for freebies anyway. I know how hard it is to get off the poverty line. I'd figure something out.

( With a snort. ) Maybe I'll get into the taxi service post festival. One stop portal.

Like, if you let me take a couple pictures I could probably find some stuff that'd really work for you! I'd need to make sure isn't awful or anything.

*See for Lola that is a mission of mercy she can make time for. And unlike teaching someone how to cook, figuring out the right make-up colors for someone isn't all that hard, and super easy to just send pictures of the right color/shade and products in various levels of affordable.*

I'm a little slammed trying to open my own restaurant. I've tried the teaching thing but I don't really know how to teach cause I'm, like, eighteen. Almost. I do have a few chefs that I've hired, maybe one or two of them could help me figure something out. Or at least know a guy to know a guy.

Taxi-ing people around the city would be super unique, anyone that impatient would totally offer up a lot of cash for the convenience. Plus, no competition, unless there is some? Is there some?

( Eighteen. Oh god. Lola should be one of the people Clarice is looking after, not someone helping her figure out this whole scheme. She makes a mental note to keep checking in on her, and files away the restaurant thing. Maybe she and John can come for food. Leave a really big tip. )

I'm pretty sure there are other portalers. Mostly people with magic. But they're probably busy doing amazing mystical things whereas that's pretty much my only skill. I think it would work out.

( A pause. ) I'm so going to take you up on that makeup thing though.

*You don't tip the owner.*

It's a pretty good skill. Like, I have weird healing powers I don't know how I got, and unless a building catches fire I'm never where it can help so all it does is make me sleepy. And the make-up stuff, and fashion stuff, and cooking... but other than that I can't do a lot of stuff to help people here.

*Lola grins. Helping people with the make-up and fashion stuff does fill her with a great sense of satisfaction.* We can meet up and I'll take some photos to let me really pick the right things!

( Clarice does what she wants, okay? She will tip the owner. )

Your power makes you sleepy? ( Hmmm. She's not a mutant, but they've already come across all sorts of different people here, so. ) Have you met John yet, his user name on here is Thunderbird. He's kind of great with the whole powers thing, maybe you just need someone to help you with it?

I mean not like sleepy sleepy, but like you just did a million push ups and ran a marathon and you really just need to nap sleepy? It doesn't drain me as much anymore but it's still like a lot to just go through.

Hmm, really tall, amazing hair, works out? Yeah. We talked powers stuff. I dunno, it doesn't matter cause I don't go where people get hurt. Like, unless someone cuts themselves in my kitchen or something. So I just need to control it, not really use it.

Oh yeah, I know that feeling.

( She doesn't tend to overexert herself. But that might be because when she does terrible shit happens. She's learnt to take it easy while she's here. She doesn't want to blast down the wall. )
