[ INT. Shared Housing, Floor 13, Room 4 – Very Late Night.
We open on a shot of the living space in one of the many shared housing units. It's dark in the messy room, with a couple of red jackets tossed onto the backs of chairs. Nearby, soft snores are audible.
In frame is a small, wooden creature, his giant eyes squinting with concentration as he stares at the screen. An old, beat-up mp3 player and a Sony Walkman sit beside him on the coffee table. The little creature mumbles a tiny, irritated— ]
I am Groot?
[ —in the same tone of voice someone else might use to ask, “How the hell do you work this thing?” He pokes at the screen fruitlessly for a while, but soon enough, his eyes light up as he shoves his hand forward one last time.
Suddenly, “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap” by the illustrious AC/DC shrieks over stereo speakers.
DONE. DIRT. CHEAP.
Sorry about your beauty sleep, Floor 13. And probably Floors 12 and 14.
The sapling yelps, scrambling and panicking to figure out how to stop this crazy thing, just as a sleep-tousled Star-Lord stumbles into frame, flicking on a light. Barely audible over the music, ]
Groot, what are you—?
[ Busted.
Peter picks up the device, sees that it’s recording, and he grimaces. ]

[ Which is when the feed and the music both cut out. ]

You're right, it's none of your business. [Because it isn't. Her training is her own, and only her friends know what's going on.]
But, I am willing to meet in person and maybe discuss this a bit further.
no subject
Yeah. If that's what you wanna do, sure.
[ A pause, then, a little wryly, ]
Maybe during daylight hours, huh?
no subject
Yes, greatly preferred during daylight hours--after getting some sleep.
[Because she was getting to the point where she may crash once their conversation is done.]
I wouldn't offered if I didn't want to meet up with you--or with Groot too.
[If the little one wanted to come along, that is.]
no subject
We'll get something figured out. How 'bout you let me know when you wanna meet? I should be free whenever.
no subject
That sounds.. [No, no yawning.] Sounds fine. I can contact you in the morning with a date and time.
I'll talk to you soon.
no subject
Action
Meeting in a park seems like the best idea. Enough space to walk, and talk if they decided to do that. She had her staff on her, continuing to bring her old weapon even though she would use the lightsaber more in battle than anything else.
Now time to play the waiting game.]
no subject
And that’s especially true of today, considering Groot woke him up at ass o’clock, and considering he spent a lot of last night worrying over Gamora and the sickness she seems to have caught. When Gamora leaves for her shift with the Perimeter Guard, Peter rolls over and checks his comm, sees the message from Rey, and shoots off a quick message telling her, “I’ll be there with bells on.”
Peter shows up with Groot on his shoulder, though the kid is eager to hop off and go running off across the fields, probably scaring the shit out of whatever squirrels or birds or other hapless creatures he runs into. Peter’s yawning as he approaches Rey, though he stifles it behind his hand. ]
Hey. Didn’t keep you waiting, did I?
no subject
[There's a shake of her head at his question. Rey is dressed like she normally would be. No need for jeans or any civilian clothing, something that she feels more at easy with. Though, she doesn't think it makes her look more or less like a Jedi, only something she wore that was familiar and comfortable. The strap of her staff is slung over her shoulder, and lightsaber safely tucked away on her person.]
No, you didn't. I was enjoying the scenery. [That's one way to put it. Really, she hadn't been waiting long, but she was people watching as she waited. Her eyes fall to Groot, taking some amusement from how he was running around like a child.]
Were you able to get more sleep last night?
[Best to start off with something light and then work her way into maybe answering his question from last night.]
no subject
Sorta.
[ Which is a lie. He slept like shit, if he slept at all – and the jury’s still out on that one. But, hey, not her problem, and not something he really wants to talk about.
(In the background, Groot shouts what might be a war cry as he tackles something that looks a little like a dandelion puff.) ]
What about you? If I remember right, you were the one nodding off like a kid in class.
no subject
I wasn't nodding off. I finally felt tired enough to sleep.
[Please, like she'd nod off. She was trying to keep herself from yawning. But there's a pause as she gathers her thoughts.]
Why did you ask if I was training with him? [The last Jedi, and better yet, what was his motive for knowing?]
no subject
As for her question, he blinks at her, a little confused. ]
I guess I was just curious? [ And he casts the words a little uncertainly, like he’s not sure what sort of answer she’s looking for, here. ] Like, I figure there’s only a couple of reasons to look for the last Jedi, or whatever, and that’s either to interview him, or to train under him.
no subject
[Rey repeated the words, trying to gauge if Peter had any other ulterior motives. If he wanted the information for his own knowledge or for other purposes that may or may not align with the First Order. He wasn't too far from the truth.]
Some would want to kill him, eradicate the Jedi so nothing could stand in their way. The Jedi would only live on as myths until they're forgotten.
[Like the names of the other Jedi before Luke. The ones before his time and Anakin's. Those names, those brave Jedi who would be lost to time, but still remembered in the Force.]
no subject
Hey, no. I don’t want anyone dead. Promise.
I, uh. [ ... what’s the best way to put this without admitting he was a total Star Wars nerd as a kid? ] When I... heard stories. About Jedi and stuff, I mean. I always thought they were seriously cool. The stuff they could do, the people they helped. I always liked hearing about it.
So, you know. You said you met a Jedi in the flesh, and that sounded— [ He tries to think of an appropriate term, but he apparently settles on— ] —seriously awesome.
no subject
Uh-huh...
[It doesn't help convince her, but he doesn't seem like he's lying either? He's a hard one to really nail down.
She listened to him, continuing to weigh his words and waiting for him to slip up on something. But...he doesn't. He seems genuine in his tales. He was like any other child who heard of the Jedi--of Luke Skywalker and the hope that gave them that there was someone on the side of good, trying to help people.
The way that he described her encounter with Luke made her let out a soft chuckle and shake her head.]
He was more grumpy than anything else...but it was...[What was the word? Humbling? Shocking?] I was speechless when I met him. [Yes, that was the best way to describe it.]
I wasn't there to train with him, I was there for something else and it turned into being trained by him.
[Spoken so casually like it wasn't a big deal at all.]
no subject
Still, some of his excitement works its way onto his face, into his voice, when he asks, ]
So can you do all that stuff, too? Like, move stuff with your mind and do that— [ He gestures with his hand – the Jedi mind trick. ] —that thing?
no subject
But she has to laugh a little at how he waves his hand for whatever trick he thinks she can do.]
I can do a few things, yes. Used the Force to lift rocks and...convinced a Stormtrooper to leave a cell unlocked and drop his blaster.
[Hopefully that's the 'trick' that he was referring to.]
no subject
That’s so awesome.
Does that mean you have a lightsaber?
no subject
I wouldn't call it 'awesome,' but it's...pretty cool?
[A nod of her head.]
Yes, I do.
[It was Luke's...well, technically Anakin's...but it's hers. It called out to her.]
Did you want to see it? [Not that she'd let him touch it--he could hurt himself with it--but she's willing to show him.]
no subject
[ He’s going to just go ahead and assume that asking, “Can I play with it?” is probably a bridge too far, but this is the next best thing. ]
no subject
Rey takes out the lightsaber from her side, rising to stand up. She's shorter than Peter, and probably younger than him too, but she had been through enough that's aged her mentally. Using the Force, she let's the lightsaber float above her hands and slowly turn around to let him see it's design.]
I'm not going to ignite it, if that'll be your next question. You don't want to lose a limb.
no subject
But on the other hand, he definitely wanted to see the lightsaber, like, deployed? Is that even the right word? Because he totally wanted to know if that thing made the whoom whoom KSHHH sound like in the movies. ]
Aww, c'mon.
What if I stand, like, a few feet back?
no subject
I'm not asking you show off any of your weapons Star-Lord.
[She's just being stubborn about it--and also she doesn't want to cause any harm to him or Groot in case he got curious too. She brings the lightsaber back to her and holds it in one hand.]
It's not a toy, you know.
no subject
[ He does, in fact, have a pair of blasters holstered to his hips and a metal trigger behind his ear for his mask – never leave home without them! – but admittedly, they’re not nearly as cool as an actual, literal, lightsaber. ]
I mean, I don’t mind doing a cultural exchange.
no subject
Aside from him losing a limb.
Or accidentally starting a fight.
Or both.]
Not interested. You have, what? Blasters?
[She wasn't really interested in weapons, more so of ships and creating new things.]
You basically aim and pull the trigger, that's it.
