Grief, Sympathy, Madness and Anger:
Spreading an artificial plague.

After an extensive investigation conducted by this reporter with great assistance by Dr. Richard Strand and Officer Peter Grant of the London Magical Crime Unit as well as an anonymous source, the ISR has discovered the identity of the person who released the plague that was both a combination of magic and nanite technology as pointed out by both Dr. Victor Frankenstein and Tony Stark the younger in network posts. The culprit is a local woman, Sarah White, 49. Whiteis an engineer who specializes in magically-enhanced robotics giving her the ability and knowledge and skills to release this artificial virus. White is currently in police custody.

The virus was released on May 1st by City Hall, according to multiple witnesses who saw White in the area acting suspiciously. Extremely contagious by design, White artificial virus spread through the population, attacking both native and newcomer like a wildfire without any one set of symptoms or a period of illness. The only thing that the virus had in common in every instance was that the victim spent a period of time in a coma, and then woke up with no sign of having the disease or the ability to catch it again.

No new cases have been reported as of June first, and everyone who was previously infected has been awaken from their comas, with the magic and the nanites stopped.

While this reporter did not interview White herself, extensive research reveals that other than working as an engineer, during the first epidemic that affected the settlement ten years ago, White entire family was killed. Given that she had the ability to kill everyone within Riverview, and didn’t, and the attack happened during the month of Memoria which this reporter does not think is a coincidence.

Dr. Frankenstein reported to us that in looking for a cure from immune patients, he'd collected blood samples. Those blood samples show no further signs of the virus. He adds, "My guess is that Miss White deactivated the nanites or sent some sort of command for them to be destroyed once the month of Memoria was over."

I can't imagine what it would have done to the community as well. It seems like we're not all that close-knit but honestly I think we are more than she expected.

That's how it usually goes. I don't want to equate this with the Evil Queen, but it does have a familiar feeling to it.

I think we all equate things like this with the big bads in our life from home, actually.

Really? So this reminds you of something from your world?

Sort of. Well, something similar. A man. [Yeah that is so much distaste in her voice with that one word.] is using science and magic to create demons.

Seriously? So mixing science and magic happens in other worlds...

Well, sacred geometry, so I don't know how much of it would be considered "magic" but yeah. He's definitely done it to create demon and demonic portals that can be opened around the world.

[Canon updating is a beautiful thing save for when it's a cluster.]

Sacred geometry. So what is that, kind of like numerology?

Um sort of but also not really. According to the people who believe in it, sacred geometry is what god used to design the universe. You can see it both in like natural things like the golden ratio and man made ones too, of course. But allegedly, when Lucifer fell, he built it in like a sort of backdoor into heaven.

So, people can use the signs to do different things depending on how you use them. Like to bilocate or summon demons or to protect people from them. Thomas Warren just... well, he's evil so of course he's going to take it to the worst places.

I can’t say I’ve studied something like that, much. I might have studied it in school, but only out of curiosity. Even I know you don’t mess with demons.

I mean, I guess you can do it without messing with demons, but yeah, in general demons are a pretty crappy idea.

[Not that Alex has a complete and total bias against them and a phobia or anything.]

Are these the same demons that interfered with your sleep patterns?

Sort of. The demons that were doing that basically were... Well, real ones, I guess? Not the ones Thomas Warren did. He needs something else to be able to put that plan into action.

[Alex means someone else, but she's not going to say that.]

The demons that I first started investigating were ones that needed to be summoned using it, and people needed to "open the door" for the kids. But they're still sourced around the same groups: Thomas Warren, the Order of the Ceonophus and the Cult of Tiamat.

That makes sense. Demons would have unnatural control over something like sleep. They must have done something to your body chemistry so you'd still be able to function even with very little sleep.

[Though maybe telling her that demons messed with her body chemistry is probably not the greatest idea. That's worse than telling someone they have a strong placenta after being possessed by a ghost]

Hm. Well, since Tiamat is associated with the chaos of primordial creation, I can't see that cult being anything but trouble.

[And because Alex has already seen what has happened to her reputation when her belief in demons had gotten out to the world at large, so she's going to try and minimize that now. Well, as much as she can. Besides, this is medical stuff.]

Do you think that it's something that might have shown up in my blood earlier when I'd first got here? Because I recently received my memories, and it definitely reverted me to how I was physically when I was back home. I've lost some weight and was definitely bone tired again if you think it'd be worth checking.

I mean, I know that they were in my home multiple times when I was asleep or trying to sleep, so as Strand would say "it's not outside the realm of possibility." Or at least it wouldn't be if he didn't believe in demons.

It's just trouble. Honestly between them and Pythagoras and Cylon and Warren if any of them showed up, I probably wouldn't be responsible for my actions.

I'm not sure. I can go over your blood work when you came in for that consultation, but I'm not sure what I'm looking for. The closest I've come to demons is examining someone after a ghost possession. I'll do my best, though.

It's okay. I'm sleeping a lot better now. Or at least I was. But it's still not as bad as before.

I'm glad to hear that. If we can get you to have a full month of good sleep, that'll be even better.
