[ This is unusual information to come into. There were extremely few who thought that the Bible should be translated and it certainly is not endorsed by the Pope. ]

Why would they do that?

They wanted everyone to understand the Bible. Bring them closer to God. Knowledge is power. A lot of churches hold service in English instead of Latin. Or I dunno. Spanish, Italian, pick your favorite native language and they got it.
