[Markus has been busy. Since the festival, he's been working through some things. The humans here are so nice to him, so accepting. A few he's spoken with even encouraged him to try things for himself just like Carl did. It turns out that art is a good way of working through his feelings.

Most of what he's been doing are just recreations of scenes from the festival: the food carts and the various people working them, the float from the children's parade, people wearing body paint-- and here he included himself, wearing the android-appointed uniform instead of the scrubs he actually wore while attending. He did, however, include the face paint one of his new human friends did for him.

But that's not really the focus. He centers the camera on a portrait of an elderly man]

I was missing Carl, and so I painted this.

... Oooh! Animal androids?

[ He waves his sleeve frantically. ]

Well, yeah, I don't think we've got them around here, otherwise we would know! Why would your people come up with those? Are animals going extinct?

Yes, some species have gone extinct. But android pets are popular because they don't require much maintenance. They don't need to eat and they're all hypoallergenic. Some may want the company but don't have the ability and means to take care of living animals.

... Indeed, I didn't think about it that way! That'd solve the issues of people not being allowed to have pets in small apartments! And they won't dirty around in general!

[ Hums. ]

That feels a little off, though! Would an adroid pet love its owner unconditionally or are they just programmed to be that way?

I haven't seen any humans interacting with android pets other than Carl with his birds. I think they make him happy, but it's hard to tell sometimes with human emotions.

Ummm...! I think it's a bit sad that they're not real!

But I guess birds are fine... I would honestly not understand if someone got an android cat or dog! They're like best friends for humans!

[Markus has a feeling there are definitely humans who have robot cats and dogs, but decides not to bring it up]

I would like to see the real cats and dogs. Would your brother let me come in?
