If you're saying that, then I guess it's mostly a mortal concern. If I had asked a mortal man the same question, I'm sure he would have denied it until his last breath. If he was from my time period, at least.

[He's noticed how the dress code in the Quarantine has been more flexible for all people.]

Truth can be just as strange to humans.

Some days, I still find it hard to believe that I'm here, alive and well.

Yes. In a painful way, too. Gatling gun put a bunch of holes through me.

[This is something he doesn't mind sharing, or at least, not as much as when he first arrived and needed time to process everything. He died. It happened, but that was in the past now, strange as it sounded.]

As a matter of fact, not too many. With the lifestyle I had, I figured I probably wouldn't live to see old age. I got to see many places and do things most people in my position could only dream of. And I was free.

[He didn't die in the peasant village he was born and raised in, and he didn't die a manservant.]

But the biggest regret I have is me being the only one here from my group. It just doesn't feel right.

I've heard people say that gods can't die permanently. Is it frightening each time, or do you get used to it?

[There's a small pause before the next text comes in.]

I wasn't all alone when I died, there was one other, but he didn't come through the portal with me.

I imagine a god wouldn't fear death since they are immortal.

[With this being text, Billy can't hear the implication behind those words, which was one of the reasons he didn't like texting. He couldn't read a person's body language, or see the look in their eyes, or hear their tone of voice.]

Isn't it better to have all the time in the world to do the things you wish?

It's just something I've heard a lot of people wish for back home. The idea itself sounds great, but there's always a catch.

I'm not interested in immortality, but I've heard plenty of tales of men who spent their whole lives searching for it.

Would you consider your own immortality to be more of a curse? Or do you have mixed feelings about it?

sorry, I had writer's block for this

I could say the same about my mortality. It's almost funny how we tend to wonder what we might be like if we had another person's attributes, but I try not to waste too much time worrying over it. I work with what I have, and that's how it's been my whole life.

Maybe in the end, that's all any of us can do, mortals and immortals alike.
