[It's clear whoever is using this device is unused to it. The picture shifts around for a few minutes, and Ivar's face furrowed in concentration is seen several times before he finally realizes that it's on. He's sixteen, has blue eyes, and oddly enough, blue sclera as well. There's also an ax tucked at his side. He points the phone he's using outward, showing that he's in the kitchen, seated on a chair. His voice, when he speaks, has a vaguely European accent.] I have figured out what these do.

[He shows in turn the fridge, the sink, and the stove. The last one had caused a few burnt fingers, but hey, he'll survive.] But I still have no idea what this does. [He turns the device to the microwave. He's been playing around with the buttons, and while he's been able to turn it on, he hasn't yet realized food is supposed to go inside of it.] Anyone care to enlighten me?

Of course. They explained how to use it when I first got here.

[He'd been sure to get a phone that had lots of symbols instead of just letters and numbers. Just be glad he hasn't decided to take it apart yet to figure out how all the functions work.]

You know how to work it, but you don't know how it works. Most technologies are this way where I'm from. Only engineers understand their inner workings. Everybody, back home, can use a microwave, and we know it uses microwave radiation to heat things up. Further than that? [He shrugs.]

I know perfectly well how any gun functions, how, and why. That's what matters to me.

Still sounds like ignorance to me. How are you going to repair anything if you don't know how it works?

[His next words get a blank look from the Viking warrior.]

What's a gun?

[Which should give a clue as to just how far back in the past he's come from.]

[Adam shrugs again.] There are people more qualified to do it. Helps the economy, either you pay someone to fix, or you buy a new one. It's not my job.

It's a handheld weapon. Designed to discharge projectiles - usually bullets - at very high speed for maximum damage. Like... do you know what a ballista is? Guns are the same basic principle, only they're portable.

Yes, I know what a ballista is. [He frowns. He's from a another time period but that doesn't make him a fool. He pictures how small such a weapon would have to be. That's really small.]

Sounds like it would make for interesting warfare, but I think I'll stick with archery.

[He didn't mean it in a judgy way, just - who the hell knows what this guy has got to work with in his time.]
