[As the video starts, you can see a black-haired man in his 30's adjusting the camera on his smartphone. And judging by the background that looks like a lecture hall, you might able to guess that he's in Riverview University. Once he straightens the camera, he then calmly stares at the camera.]

Hello! My name is Professor Augustine Sycamore and I'm here to tell you about my new night class here in Riverview Univesity.

As most of you don't know right now, there have been reports of strange creatures came out of the portal. Those creatures with elemental and powerful abilities are in fact called Pokemon, which they are many different species and elements back in my world. Their appearance is partially my fault as I heard they came out of the portal when I arrived here.

Since I'm worried about how Riverview residents will treat these creatures, I decided to use my new position here to not only continue my duties as a Pokemon Professor but also to open up an elective night class about these creatures so you may able to know how to interact with these creatures. Not only that, I let the people from the tech firm replicate some of my items I've brought here in order to help you.

[Just then, his Garchomp then enters the scene as she curiously looks at the camera before her trainer pats on her snout.]

[With that, he turns off the video as he hopes it will help him out in spreading the word about his class and give awareness to the Pokemon's appearance in Riverview.]

[She hasn't seen a lot of animals, but she gets the sense that garchomp is not something she'd see in her world.]

Are they dangerous at all?

Not exactly. While most of them are hostile in the wild, they can open up to you if you treated them right. Also, if you captured them with a special item, you can try to train with them as well gain their trust in order to create a strong bond.

So... they're some sort of magical familiar. What purpose do they serve, if captured?

It depends on your preference. You can take care of them as a pet or train them in a Pokemon battle.

Back in my world, there are many kinds of trainers that have different ways to take care of their Pokemon.

Well, I'm not much one for pets, but...

...I can see where they could be useful in combat. If you don't mind, I'd like to learn how to tame them.

There is an item to help you tame them, but the tech firm is currently working on replicating that item right now as we speak.

[Namely the Poke Ball he was glad to bring when he arrived here.]

If you interested in capturing and taking care some of the Pokemon, why don't you try to attend one of my classes someday?

Me too. Right now, I'm worried about those wild Pokemon since they are now living in their new environment.

Okay, you're -- you're going to have to give me a really quick overview right away on how to distinguish these creatures from regular monsters, before something bad happens. The classes are a good idea, but we may not have that kind of time for nuance...

I haven't look at the monsters in Riverview yet, but most of these creatures' appearances varied. However, I did ask the tech firms to create some devices that may distinguish these creatures to avoid confusion.

However, it might take a while since it may be difficult to replicate without the original device on hand.

[Namely the Kalos-model Pokedex he usually gives to beginning trainers, which he left it back in his lab when he arrived here.]

And it is optional to join in these classes, but it is recommended if you don't want to mistake the Pokemon as the Riverview's monsters.

Right, which makes it functionally mandatory... but I'm more worried about the short-term. If a monster is menacing a local inhabitant I'm going to have to make a snap judgment on how to handle that, and while I'm certainly not interested in resolving situations with violence, I also have to weight the potential for injury or loss of life in my resolution calculus. So any knowledge would help.

[Now that he mentioned this, he may have a good point there. Even if he wants to teach them how to distinguish them from monster to Pokemon and tame these creatures, he can agree that there can be higher chances that they may take the lives of others.]

I would suggest trying to battle them in a Pokemon battle, but since I'm still worried about the residents' inability to distinguish these Pokemon from the monsters living here, I think the best bet is to run away and knock them out to prevent them from causing damage.

Although, I'm still working on figuring these problems around them.

I don't understand how fighting them would make it clearer. [Of course, Roy is thinking of conventional fighting, in which he hits a dangerous monster with a sword. He's only becoming more confused at this point.]

Well, if you have a Pokemon, you can let them battle against the wild Pokemon and command what attacks will they used.

[He hopes that his explanation is somehow clear.]

All right, but suppose in this hypothetical scenario we're envisioning, my responses to a potentially dangerous monster are constrained to controlling the level of harm I inflict on it with a greatsword.

[As he heard this, he hopes that the tech firm is able to mass-produce the Poke Balls as well able to replicate the Pokedex.]

Regardless, I'll try my best to explain more about these creatures during my class. But in case you encounter both the monster and a Pokemon, just try to be cautious before you can try to act.

Right. So the impression I should be getting is, apparently, that there is no easy way to tell. [He can only assume that's why his question has gone utterly unanswered for so long. Wonderful -- one more thing he has to worry about when he's on guard duty, or adventuring.]

In any case, I might try to help out the perimeter guards and some explorers so they might able to distinguish them.

[Sorry about that, considering that he's also new to this whole Riverview monsters of sorts.]

Well. Yes. As a perimeter guard and aspiring explorer, this is why I asked.

[Roy is sure starting to think this guy is a little in his own world entirely.]

[Well, this is awkward. Sycamore just sighs in dismay, realizing that his lack of knowledge in this world might not be helping after all.]

I'm sorry if I'm not helping. I'm trying to get used to this city and the threats as well.

[With an act of will, Roy reins in his cynicism and brings his voice back down to a more neutral tone.] It's obviously going to be a very complicated situation, especially as we all seem to come from vastly different worlds with very different pools of common knowledge.

You're right about our situation. To be honest, we didn't have any hostile creatures attacking our homes back in my world. Right now, the human-Pokemon relationship is still stable there and Pokemon will attack humans if they provoke them or their habitats.

No hostile creatures? I mean, most monsters in my experience won't harass significant settlements, but was cross-country travel safe?

[megabond]

Actually, yes. In fact, most of the people called Pokemon trainers usually travelled with a Pokemon to every city and town to accomplish their goals.

[greatcleavage]

That is an unusually peaceful world. And you say it's been accomplished by the domestication of monsters over time? That must have been hundreds of years of work...

[megabond]

It took very long to create that relationship, but it's worth it for most of us in our world, especially for the Pokemon with them.

[But when he mentioned about his world being peaceful, he feels that he needs to be honest about the cons of living with these powerful creatures.]

But unfortunately, it's not all peaceful because it's not the Pokemon we're worried about, but people who want to use them as weapons and tools for their evil plans. Some of them even want to capture them as trophies.

Evil and chaos will always exist. [Sad but true, a nature of the world they live in -- the COSMOS they live in.] That just means they need to be opposed.

[megabond]

[A strange quote, but he does have a point. Everything has a balance and his world is no exception.]

Still, regardless of this, we still managed to work together with our Pokemon and make sure those people won't able to create any trouble for us.

[greatcleavage]

To the best of your ability, I assume. [It can't be perfect. That's just past imagining.]

I hope so and I might say the same for Riverview.

[He just hope it will stay this way for now.]

Well. That all depends on how willing everyone is to make it happen, doesn't it?

Yeah. But maybe, I'll try to talk to the guards regarding this. If there are many people here who will abuse the Pokemon's abilities, there might be consequences.

I honestly think your first worry is going to be people causing them harm or believing them to be monsters akin to those assaulting the quarantine, more than anything...

Point taken. I'll try to come up with a way to prevent that from happening.

For now, try to inform me when someone tries to attack them. I might send you some small info about the Pokemon I know.

[It might not be a lot, but it can help on avoiding humans attacking these Pokemon as monsters.]

Well, I can certainly make the attempt, but if violence breaks out I may be too busy contributing to it to pause for contact purposes.

I understand.

[Everyone is busy with their jobs, so he can understand that situation very well.]

If my class goes well and I have the right equipment, I might try a long-term class.
