[ max isn’t big on typing — the device feels fragile and small in his hands and hitting the right places is an exercise in frustration, really — but the voice and video functions are similar enough to some of the things that can be achieved by furycrafting that they seem almost familiar. so here he is on the network, still in full uniform, looking very much like a roman soldier straight out of a history book, for those who have romans in their history books. (to those who know clark kent, he might also look like a younger version of clark pretending to be a roman.) ]

Can’t say I really understand what furycrafting’s gotten me here and I do have to get back, but while I’m here —

[ his posture and expression might have been professional until now, fit for a legionare, but here he grins, something rakish and wide. ] Where’s the nearest bar? Any recommendations for food or drink?

[ a moment later, he sobers again. in more quiet tones, he adds: ] Calderon, if you’re here as well, come find me.

[ max would absolutely sleep with lois lane if she gave any indication of being interested. ]

Maybe at one of those restaurants.

[supersweet]

Maybe.

[ Definitely not like his dad. ]

Uhm, so where are you? If you still wanna have pizza.

[legionare]

[ since this is video, jon will see max looking around like he's not actually entirely sure where he is. ]

Outside the communal housing. And I very much want to try this pizza food.

[supersweet]

Not a problem. I'll find you.

[ It won't take him long either. But before he turns off the feed, Jon remembers his manners. ]

I'm Jon.

[legionare]

And I am Max.

[ the gesture may be lost on jon, but the child is kind to him and so max briefly lifts one fist to his chest, tapping it against the chest plate. a salute, if you will. ]

[ video > action ]

[supersweet]

[ It is totally lost on him, but it looked cool so Jon immediately copies it with a cheerful grin. ]

I'll be right over.

[ And true to his word, Jon is there in a few minutes. Stuffing his hands in his pockets, Jon glances at the Communal Housing from a distance before spotting Max. Here, he slows down to a normal human pace and walks up to him. ]

Hi!

[legionare]

[ the effect is a lot better when you're wearing full armor and properly hit your chest so it makes a lot of noise, but it's still — cute, actually, how the kid copies him right away. ]

Hello. [ max lifts a hand in greeting. ] That took no time at all. [ he glances down at himself, looking up again with a grin. ] Do I stand out that much? [ he knows he does. hardly anyone else here wears anything close to what max is wearing. ]

[supersweet]

I'm . . . fast.

[ A nervous chuckle before Jon moves on, glancing up at Max's clothes. ]

Yeah. It's like you're all geared for Halloween. Isn't it hot in that?

[legionare]

[ max shrugs. the armor is heavy, of course, and it is warm, but he doesn't really notice. part of it is just that he's so used to it, that the legion is his home and his family and wearing this is a part of that, and besides — it's entirely possible that there's some low-level furycrafting going on at all times to keep him from growing tired for wearing it, to keep him from overheating. max might not even realise he's doing it, anymore. ]

I'm used to it. What's Halloween?

[supersweet]

[ Jon jerks his thumb to indicate their direction as he starts as an easy pace, talking easily along the way. ]

It's a holiday on Earth. We dress up and have candy and stay up kind of late at night.

[legionare]

And Earth is the country you are from?

[ max's legs are much longer than jon's, so it's really a slow amble that they're moving at, for him. he doesn't mind that. ]

[supersweet]

No, it's a planet.

[ Jon gestures widely to show how big a planet is. ]

You're probably from a planet too.

[legionare]

Probably.

[ he definitely totally absolutely knows what you're talking about.... yeah, no, he's got nothing. if they covered this in class at the academy, he probably missed that class because he was asleep or in bed with one or more beautiful women. ]

[supersweet]

Anyway Halloween is meant to be a spooky holiday, but you can dress up in whatever you like! I went as a mummy once. It was the only costume we could do in time.

[legionare]

[ this is going to get tiring real fast, but — ]

What's a mummy?

[supersweet]

Egyptian dead guy wrapped with bandages. I saw him in a movie once.

[ A movie he was not supposed to be up late to watch but details. Finally, Jon spots the restaurant he had pizza with Kara with. ]

There! You sure you have enough money?

[legionare]

[ max doesn't know what egyptians are, but he knows dead guys and bandages, so he doesn't bother asking any more questions. some dead person, got it. ]

I'm sure. They gave me a lot.

[ he thinks it's a lot, anyway. he has to get used to the currency. but if it's what he'll earn in a month working for them, surely it will be enough for more than one pizza. ]

[supersweet]

[ Jon checks his own pocket before looking up. ]

Yeah, but you'll probably need it for other stuff. I can cover you for now.

[legionare]

What other things besides food and drink would I need to pay for?

[ clothes, maybe... ]

[supersweet]

Clothes, video games, boring brief cases that adults like to carry . . . probably tons of stuff that'll come up later.

[legionare]

Video games?

[ there's so much going on here that max just Does Not Understand ]

[supersweet]

[ Once Max repeats Jon's words does it sink it. ]

That can wait. I guess food, drink and clothes are the main ones to worry about.

[legionare]

[ at least for all of those, max knows what they are. ]

How much can a pizza possibly cost?

[supersweet]

Around fifteen dollars or so. But they're big and they fill you up easily.

[legionare]

That's good to know. I have a large appetite.

[ max grins. ] But I can afford this. I'm sure of it.
