[ it's clear from the view behind him that nico is currently sitting somewhere very high up. for those familiar with it ( and still awake, since it's nearly midnight ), they might notice he's on the roof of the communal housing. indeed, he's sitting on the edge, swinging his legs back and forth as he looks up at the stars above. for a few seconds, he's silent. were it not for the fact that the video is recording and being held up, one might think the device somehow turned on itself. but no, it's intentional, and eventually nico sighs. ]
I think I prefer the stars from home. At least they were recognizable. The constellations... I've been far away from home before if you could call it "home". But at least I knew where I was and how to get back by looking at the night sky. I know almost all the stories. The myths. Most are real, you know.
[ a shake of his head and nico seems to stare off into the distance. a small chiming of his device signals the hour: midnight. nico's brows furrow as a response. ]
I wonder where I could get some blue birthday cake.
( ooc: slams this down and skedaddles to bed. nico's birthday was the 16th and i'm late, but i wanted to get this up. tag backs will come tomorrow. )

[ Cisco knows he's not offering any ground-breaking advice but sad messages about feeling lost delivered from a rooftop are a little alarming, as a genre. Better to say something than nothing at all. ]
Whose birthday is it?
[ Cisco figures it's probably the kid's, but you never know - could be a best friend's birthday he's missing back home, or a sibling, or a parent even. ]
video;
Yeah, that would probably be the smart thing to do.
[ as for the question about the cake, he's slow to answer. mostly because he isn't fond of drawing attention to himself. and the last thing he wants is some stranger pitying him for having a lame birthday. that's what he expects, at least. pity. ]

[ His suggestion is, perhaps, nothing extraordinary - it's a pretty logical step that if Nico is going to do that research, the library is a good place to start. But Cisco knows from experience that sometimes, when things are bad, or a task seems too daunting, it's nice to have someone else suggest a concrete plan. ]
I'm sure there are bakeries that can get you a cake. Did you mean blue icing or a blue sponge? 'Cause I'm not sure I've ever seen a completely blue cake. I think most of them are closed for the night, though...
[ Cisco noticed that conspicuous non-answer, but he's not letting it discourage him. ]

Completely blue. It's... something my friend's mom would make for his birthdays. But, yeah. I'm surprised anyone's even awake.

[ Not a perfect solution by any means, but Cisco makes the offer easily, casually, as if it's the most normal thing in the world for him to help out however he can, even for a random stranger. ]
Why an all-blue cake? There a significance, or is it just kinda tradition?
[ He's still gently prodding, trying to get Nico to talk about who's birthday it is, about why he seems so forlorn. ]
I got a weird sleep schedule.

[ and then he huffs. ]
I think it was kind of a tradition with him and his mom. He... shared some with me once.

[ Cisco can see there's some reluctance in that pause, and it makes sense. Cisco's a complete stranger offering help, and this kid might find it condescending, or might think he won't actually follow through. Or, more likely, it's not so much the actual information he needs - not knowing the constellations is just a symptom of the larger problem of homesickness, of feeling displaced and helpless about it. But all that is way above Cisco's pay grade, so he just says: ]
Well, offer stands either way, just hit me up if you want whenever.
[ From the sound of it, blue cakes aren't really the norm where Nico is from, either. Curiouser and curiouser. ]
Huh. Okay. What flavor was it, though?

[She shouldn't be volunteering people without asking them, but she can't in good conscience offer to try and bake one herself. Not for something important like a birthday.]
Is it your birthday?
no subject
Yeah. I think I will. It's... well, it's been a long time since I've had a birthday.

[She gives him a bright smile - she'll be peppy enough for the two of them.]
I know it must be terrible to be away from home at a time like this, but... if you need anything to cheer you up, I'm happy to provide.

[ he can't quite bring himself to smile back, but he does nod again. ]
That'd be cool, I guess. I've never really thought about it before, though. To be honest, I never really had a chance to think about the things I'd want like that.
i'm sorry this is super late
[These are the kind of things Letha thinks of as fun birthday activities. All the same level of childish fun.]
same same tbh
That... Actually sounds kinda cool.
