[ Bill is used to smart phones, but she's not used to this sort of a network thing where people just go online to chat and ask questions about things... But, she's new here, and she's trying to fit in. Plus she has some questions that she definitely can't ask the Doctor about.

When the video starts, Bill's dressed in a drab dark outfit with her hair pulled back in a braided bun. Very dystopia. She does a little wave, then launches into her question. ]

Hi. I guess. My name's Bill, just arrived. Except the portal thing didn't exactly let me pack, so all I have to wear is... well, not exactly my style. Anyone know where's good to shop around here? Someplace not too expensive; I'm a university student now, I've got to keep a budget.

OH! [ She holds up a finger. ] If you were going to university, and could study anything you want, anything at all... What would you study? I'm at a bit of a loss, myself. Never actually done this officially before.

[ She pauses to think if she has anything else to add, but no. That's it. ]

Anyway, yeah. If you could help me out, that'd be brilliant. Cheers!

[It isn't until he sees Bill smile that he realizes that he was still expecting the reaction he would have had with the other Shadowhunters. A few months in Idaho hadn't completely erased that reaction after years of hearing the Clave condemn relationships that didn't fit their narrow views.]

I didn't know people could travel through it. [Magic, portals, alternate realities are things Alec has experience with but time travel is still something he's trying to grasp.] How do you just 'pop' into one era from the other?

I've always loved music. My parents let my friend practice piano. He's amazing, but they wouldn't let me learn.

Usually you need a time machine, I think. That's how it works with my friend. I don't think he can just do it on his own.

[ She frowns at the mention of his parents not letting him learn piano. ]

That doesn't seem very fair. Why weren't you allowed to play as well?

Where I'm from time machines are in books or movies. They don't there exist. At least I've never heard of them being real.

[Alec's dealt with the subtle differences between how his parents treated him and Jace. He shrugs. He's never going to be the favorite and he accepted that years ago.]

It wasn't. Jace, my friend, was taught by his father. Mine thought it wasn't something I should learn. Jace still taught me, but we had to be careful not to get caught.

He drives me crazy sometimes but he's a good friend. [Technically, Jace drives everyone crazy but that's not exactly how to introduce his parabatai to people.]

How did you friend get a time machine?

Dunno. Reckon he's had it forever.

[ She doesn't want to give too many details, partly because it's the Doctor's business, not hers, and partly because she doesn't actually know the details. ]
