[ the feed opens up with a little bit of jostling until it's settled on a nearby bedstand. then, there's a flash of red cloth before al settles down on the floor in front of it. in his white-gloved hands is a broken lamp. he sets it on the floor in front of him. ]
Hello! [ he's rather cheerful. ] I'm Alphonse Elric. Some of you may have already met my brother, Ed. We're alchemists and though we're working in the Perimeter Guard, I also wanted to let people know that we're here to help. If you have something broken, we can probably fix it.
[ he gestures at the broken lamp with a grin and then slaps his palms together. they're then placed above the lamp as a bright, blue light encompasses it. there's a spark of energy and soon the broken pieces are molding back together. ]
See? Just like new.
[ switching it on, the light flickers for a second and then begins to glow steadily. ]
So again, if you need something fixed, Brother and I are on floor 6. Have a nice day!

People eventually show their hands with things. One way or another.
What happens when things go wrong with it?
You made something out of nothing?
no subject
rebounds happen to alchemists who aren't skilled enough
or meddle with transmutations they don't fully understand
and
well, lives can be lost when people try Human Transmutation
because no, something cannot be made out of nothing
my brother and I used sand and dust to construct the doll
we need material to alter in order to transmute
that's why I can fix the lamp
but can't make it larger or smaller than it is
and I can't make it into something different
like a tree
no subject
Or is it like something you're born with and then have to train?
I thought as much. There always needs to be some kind of properties to create something else.
Does it have to be certain materials?
no subject
well, i say read, but we couldn't understand all the words
we mostly looked at the pictures.
after our mother died, we stayed with a teacher
she was very strict
but taught us how to be proper alchemists.
she also taught us that to train the mind
you must also train the body
so Brother and I can fight when we need to.
it doesn't have to be certain materials
but some alchemists concentrate on certain areas of study
Colonel Mustang, Brother's superior
when he was in the military
he's very good at manipulating oxygen to direct flames
Brother and I are more familiar with stone and metal
but we can transmute other materials too.
is there not something like alchemy in your world?
no subject
Can anyone learn it or do you have to have predisposition for it?
Not that I'm aware of but I haven't had much contact with those sort of things. Mostly, I've come across magic and ones that were developed and kind of forced.
no subject
that's why it's important to understand it completely.
some people try to learn it.
they might understand the principals
but don't have enough strength to call on the energy
that's needed to power transmutations.
so I guess it's a predisposition?
my father was an alchemist too.
I keep hearing about magic,
but it doesn't exist in my world
it seems strange to me that it's even possible
alchemy, however, operates on the laws of nature and science
no subject
It might make it more dangerous that way.
People even found a way to force it onto others in my world.
Alchemy might be less unstable than magic? But I guess it tends on the person huh?
no subject
for people who don't approach it carefully
so I guess it's a little like magic?
I suppose that there are bad people in all worlds
but that just makes it more important for us to protect
those who can't protect themselves.
"Be Thou for the People" is the slogan
for alchemists.
that's what Brother and I try to follow.
no subject
Do you ever wish you didn't have it? That you were more like everyone else?
no subject
for a certain price.
nothing like money though.
if it meant saving someone important to me
or protecting someone...
alchemy is about equivalent exchange
in order to gain anything, something of equal value must be lost
I lost my memories for a while, but because a stronger alchemist
when I got my memories back, I expected to lose my alchemy
I guess I got lucky I arrived here.
no subject
I'm not sure what it would do if someone lost their use of magic or abilities in general.
Did you lose all your memories or just some? Maybe being here makes the exchanges system different?
no subject
Brother didn't have his alchemy for a while
but that was because he was in a world where it didn't work.
I lost all the memories I had since my mother died.
but I got them back in the end.
it could be that being here has changed things
it's definitely something Brother and I will have to study.
no subject
A lot of mysteries all around.
Are either of you missing any memories of - things?
Do your memories match up?
no subject
we'll study hard and find answers as soon as possible
and nope! I got lucky. all my memories are back
and I'm not missing anything.
I'm glad for that. losing them had been hard
no subject
I wish I could say the same. I just found out recently that I'm missing a lot of memories.
no subject
thanks so much mr. Rogers? I'm guessing?
you are? how did you find out?
no subject
Mr. Rogers sounds way too formal.
Some people I know from back home have more memories of things than I do. I seem to be missing the most memories.
