[Someone's having a little fun with his communication device. Now that the carnivale has ended - what a shame that was - he has more time to devote to exploration of the city. Including the technology in it. And this little thing they told him to carry around since the start that keeps making strange noises at him.]

[But at last, he has it conquered!]

[He grins widely and boops the screen once or twice before accidentally cutting the feed.]

[He can't help but laugh at the candid review.]

You're technically not wrong there. [He certainly feels dumb when he has to adjust to a new system update.] I'm not sure who put out the first cellphone.. or cordless phone even, it sounds like. What year are you from?

[While Akihiko maybe didn't have the best word choice, his tone isn't condescending, expression curious as he pulls his own screen a little bit closer to try to catch- is that a tophat?]

[Laughing? Now you're speaking his language.]

Cell phone? [New word to him. It sounds like "sell phone" in his head though.] Never heard of those either. Is that like what you call a smart phone or is that just what they do when you go to buy one?

[Yes, yes it is an old top hat.] The year? Well before you, I imagine. 1889, give or take a few months. What year are you from, stranger?

Ha! No, they're the same thing- smartphones are just the new type of cellphone. They used to look like little house phones, just in your pocket. [He'd backtracked to answer, but when he registered the answer he was given his brows shot up in surprise.]

Eighteen-eighty-nine?? That's so cool! I thought I was a behind a lot of people here-- I'm from 2009. [He draws out the number as if to help process it, before seeming to realize something with a sheepish grin.] Oh, sorry, I'm Akihiko Sanada! I'm obviously new here too.

[Smart phones. Cell phones. What even. He's trying to imagine a phone from his day and age, scaled down to be able to fit into his pocket, and... nope.] That doesn't seem convenient. But if they looked like this, I could be wrong.

[Well, then.] Aye, over a century ahead of my time. Much as I've seen change in my day, seems like it's goes on and on in yours, but on a whole other level. [Even with the distance in time between them, he hasn't forgotten his own brand of manners, and he tips his hat.] That name sounds oriental. Is it nice there, in your part of the world, in that year?

[ He nods to that- he's not got the quickest draw of history to recall what was happening when the other newcomer was from, but he can only imagine from the few context clues he's gotten. The observation takes him by surprise, frown growing between his brows before his expression to a kind of embarrassment. He was about to take offense but the tone was obviously polite- give the century old man a break while he caught up with the times. ]

Ah, er, yes, I'm Japanese.. It is nice! Everywhere's got it's problems, but we're in a convenient location. [ He paused before tilting his head. ] So are you from England?

[He can still see well enough to catch that reaction. Did he offend? It wasn't his intention, he's just blunt. But for it, all he has is a grin. Akihiko will get used to that soon enough if he's around long enough.] Ah. Well, I'm glad it's nice at least. Even this place has its problems, but I'm not surprised. People make their own messes, then they clean them up and make more again. It's just how it goes.

[He tips his hat again and then removes it entirely, seeming by the shift of the view to lean back into something. They've been talking long enough. He might as well get comfy.] Aye, I call it my home. Used to, at least. Was it the accent what gave me away? [He wiggles his fingers at the screen.] By the by, you can call me Undertaker. At your service... One day, if you're here long enough.

Yeah, you can say that again. [ Akihiko lets out a breath that's not quite a sigh, scrubbing at the back of his head. Doesn't that just seem like the cycle they'd been repeating before he'd found himself in Quarantine. ]

[ He had already propped his own phone up on his nighstand, having settled for the evening, but he was surprised to see the other take off his hat; it seemed like such a staple. He laughed at the callout- well, they were even on the assumptions now. ] That and the sharp outfit. Interesting name.. it's nice to meet you, I hope we run into each other! I figure we will if you're in communal housing, I'm on floor 15.

[He tilts his head.] I suppose I could, but what'd be the fun in that?

[He grins makes a soft, amused sort of sound. Two fingers pick at the coat he has on, then he rubs them together, as if there might have been a bit of fuzz on them or something.] This old thing? It's good for something, I guess. It's certainly not like the clothes I've been browsing while I've been here. So... thin and small. [Really, back in his time, people would hardly be caught dead showing wrists and ankles. Now it's normal to show legs up to and well above the knee and arms all the way to the shoulder.] Do you? If you're so inclined, I ended up on floor 2.
