[Someone's having a little fun with his communication device. Now that the carnivale has ended - what a shame that was - he has more time to devote to exploration of the city. Including the technology in it. And this little thing they told him to carry around since the start that keeps making strange noises at him.]

[But at last, he has it conquered!]

So that's how this works.

[He grins widely and boops the screen once or twice before accidentally cutting the feed.]

Seems to be a convenient excuse. Everyone thinks that at some point. As much as I hate to say it, there's not much that can be done at this time.

[He's the kind of guy who goes after answers. Sitting and waiting is not his style so he feels out of place with this]

I'm Shiro by the way.

[He shrugs one shoulder, as if none of that really means much to him. Not right now anyway.] Seems right, unless you have a better idea. You're not hiding an army up your sleeves, are you? I don't mean the one attached at the shoulder. [He snrts into his own lengthy sleeve. He couldn't help himself.]

Undertaker. [A slight hat tip.]

[It took Shiro a moment at the comment, but finally he got it. Oooooooh. That was a "good" joke right there] No, not really. Can't do that.

Nice to meet you. Is that also your profession?

[He's weird. He won't bother to say it outright and he doesn't need to.] That's too bad. Your world hasn't come up with that yet either.

[A nod.] It was. Still is. If I ever get the opportunity. But I'll grant, it's a much smaller population than I'm used to.

Not really. Would be helpful if we had.

Well, it is a job that is always needed at some point in time even if it will take longer. Everyone will need one. But only once.

[He shrugs again.] Not much for doing about it now. Maybe it's something you'll figure out while you're here, if things keep going the way they are.

Oh? I suppose so. I've never rightly seen someone die twice. Fake deaths don't count. They wouldn't survive my parlor after.

[That comment did give him pause. Had he really just said...?]

Definitely good at your job it sounds like.

[Maybe he did. He's not telling.]

I am. Better for my business, that way. [Both of them.]

[It certainly sounded that way to Shiro. Maybe he'd misheard or that meant something else?]

Well, I can't imagine someone still being alive would be good for business.

[He's not telling.]

It isn't when they want to wake up on the table and they're meant to be dead. It tends to be a problem when I'm sent the wrong person, not that it's happened before.

Yeah, that does tend be a problem, if not for you then for someone else.

[Some how he doubts though that this person would really be concerned about the other person who made the mistake]

Well hopefully you can find something that will let you use your skills.

[He shrugs, like it's not at all something that would concern him. Business as usual.] Still looking about, but in a population as small as this, there's bound to be something. What sort of occupation did they put you in here, if I might ask?

I'm sure there will be. I ended up in the Perimeter Guard. I do both search and rescue and orientation.

Ah, the Guard. Police work, is it? Keeps you busy though, I bet. They're out and about all day and night, but I don't suppose I need to tell you that. What's it like, working for that lot?

Sort of. I help with providing orientation to new recruits to the Perimeter Guard as well as going outside the wall to rescue those who ventured out and got into trouble. There are a lot of members who do that so I assist when needed.

I haven't had any problems working for them yet. It keeps me busy which I prefer to doing nothing.

This world's version of police work, then. I suppose if you like it, that's all that really matters. With all the trouble this world has brought on itself, it only makes sense that they'd need people to look out for the ones they drag in.

Yes, that is important and I do enjoy it. Until we go home, it's at least an option to keep people safe.

[And give him something that feels good about doing. He didn't like to sit around doing nothing]

Hopefully you can find something you enjoy.

[He paused at that, grin widening ever so slightly.] I'm sure I will. Don't you worry yourself about that. [As if he expected it would happen.] And don't worry yourself too much if one of you should need to send someone to me. It'll be a lovely funeral, it will. I can guarantee that much.

That's... reassuring.

[No, not really]

I hope that is service you aren't asked to do very often.

[What? Did he want it to be a bad send off? What a strange way to say goodbye to the light.] As often as it comes. I don't say when they go, I'm just the last to tuck them in bed around my parts. Now these as well.

[He curled his fingers and tucked the knuckles under his chin, pinning Shiro with a veiled stare.] Speaking of, what would your preferences be? It's not often I get to take requests from clients themselves.

I... hadn't really thought of it that way, but I guess it is.

[He couldn't tell if it was slightly less morbid that way or slightly more, but it was a better way of thinking about it. Of course this was Shiro coming into it without much thought to how that all worked before. Someone who worked that job obviously thought about it every day.

The next question though makes him pause]

What I want? That's not something I've ever considered before.

[Considering for the longest time, the thought that he would be a prisoner of the Galra for the rest of his life had crossed his mind. And while he had known he could die was always possible with Voltron, especially after being injured by Haggar, but not what he'd want if he did]

[Well him, being the only cause of death advisor in town... and as far as he can tell, the only mortician. For that though, he only grins, like he enjoys that thought a little too much.] Not many do. There's a million and one ways humans can die and none of those seem to cross a mind until the moment it all happens. [He shrugs and leans back.] I find most see it as quite a frightening thing, and why not? Who really knows what waits after your last breath?

[There was silence on Shiro's end for a long moment as though he were thinking about something]

For some though, it would be relief. Perhaps they really are in a situation that someone would consider worse than death. I've thought about the other side before. Didn't think anyone would actually care until recently.

Well, I did say most, after all. You'd be right. Not everyone runs from their end. Some people run to it rather than away from it. I've seen a fair share of it in my time from both ends of the spectrum, but most of them want to stay alive. It's a rare instance when I get someone in my parlor who chose death. Interesting, but rare.

It's a shame when that happens. There's too many things that can happen in someone's life. I came out of the problems I had with something to live for and I don't intend to lose that now.
