[Steve is commandeering the floor's kitchen for the moment. With the festival going on, he gets more time to himself, but there's still the situation to consider. They are all new people getting used to Quarantine. So Steve sets up with his device, sending out a message while he takes a break from the activity.]

Floor five, clean up your messes. Loki, that means you.

[Because that's easier to start with than anything else he can think of.]

If we haven't met yet, my name is Steve Rogers. I'm working with the Perimeter Guard here in Search and Rescue. If you have any problems, you can contact me directly. It doesn't have to be an emergency situation. We're all adjusting here, so if you need anything, feel free to come up or give me a call.

I typically go for a run in the morning and train in the evening. Just in case anyone's interested in joining me. Thinking about taking a better look at what's surrounding us, too.

[Blocky Steve is kind of Grumpy Steve. But she's not going to throw Bucky under the bus.

She nods slightly.]

Okay.

Well. Then I guess now is the point where I should tell you that I'm not a terrorist...

Nice, I'm digging that!

[Wizardly tick of approval on the cool energy shield. He doesn't know if it's magic or technology, but it doesn't really matter, it's just reassuring to see.]

We're like, a team or whatever? [He's not admitting he likes Magnus or anything, that'd be going way to far.] He's the guy that makes sure we don't end up dead, 'cause our cleric is shit at healing spells.

[Oh, Lord, what has he gotten himself into? Even if he were an Olympic-class athlete - and Sam doesn't flatter himself that much - he wouldn't be able to beat Steve in a sprint or a distance race. So now he's going to get his ass handed to him. Probably, if he's really lucky, by two Steves at the same time.

But he's not going to back down, either.]

Wouldn't miss it for the world.

... What does that mean?

[He can't help a confused look-- the time point he comes from, Steve Rogers is Captain America, after all, and one of the heroes he's always respected a lot.

He gives a smile of his own though, giving a nod.]

I'll totally be there, then.

You hardly know me. [But that's coming from Bucky Barnes, who doesn't trust that easily. Just because they're in the same 'would probably rather not be here' boat doesn't mean he necessarily trusts anyone here, barring Steve, Tony, and to an extent, Stephen.

He snorts quietly at the comment about his haggling skills.] I'm just rusty, s'all.

I'm sort of here at a disadvantage. Everyone else seems to have friends and family and familiar faces around them.

[He's got Blocky Steve. And apparently a doppelganger of his own. Fatima's flying solo and she kind of hates it.

She shakes her head.]

Anyway, all this alternate universe stuff is really helpful. I honestly didn't mean to piss off your friend.

[The return question certainly makes things awkward. So Billy doesn't know yet. Steve isn't sure if that means he should keep it to himself or not, so he lets the matter go for the moment. It doesn't change anything, right?]

Never mind. We can discuss it later. I'll see you in the morning.

[He isn't sure what he'll say then, but at least he can check up on Billy and make sure he's okay.]

[He frowns deeply at that.]

What?

Oh-- sure.

[He can't shake the feeling that something is wrong, but--

it's probably better to ask in person when they meet up, rather than air it over the network or something.]

I'll see you there, then.

My name's Fatima. People assume.

[And she laughs first, because if she laughs at herself, no one can hurt her.]

That's the spirit.

[Sam has definitely invited a bit of trolling from Steve, but there's also a genuine enthusiasm in the blond's response. Having Sam join the morning run is company that he has missed after coming back and being strangely out of place in his world.]

It'll be fun. [Don't worry, Sam. Steve looks cheerful on his end of the line.]

[Steve doesn't want to worry Billy, so he just answers calmly.]

Good. I look forward to it.

[And with that he disconnects.]

And you volunteer the option to strangers? You're not going to give people a good image of you if you don't give them the right impressions first. If you want other people to see you for who you are, you should start with that. Feeding into lies doesn't fix anything. I doubt that any of the people here would jump to assumptions when we're all new to this world. Don't make jokes like that.

[Yeah, Blocky Steve is definitely Grumpy Steve. And Fatima knows a no-win debate when she sees one. She's constantly getting tangled up in them back home.

But she isn't back home. She doesn't have friends. She doesn't have people she can rely on. She doesn't even have anyone from her own world.

Maybe it's that aloneness that stops her from arguing.]

...I just wanted someone to run with.

I wouldn't be going if I didn't expect to have fun.

[And it's true; despite his grousing, Sam's perfectly happy to go running with Steve. He needs to stay in shape, and it's good company. Something like what he's used to back home.]

Not everyone. [He's met a few people who are here as independents by now. It's probably difficult, but at the same time, it's not like he would want his friends to be pulled away from their worlds. That's just the way things happened.]

It's fine. You get used to Steve being Steve after a while.

Blocky Steve, at least. I'm going to assume Baby-Face Steve is different.

[He won her a stuffed unicorn, after all. That automatically makes him different.

Fatima's going to have to add all of this to her notes.]

And if I meet the other Bucky, should I assume he's better at haggling?

Of course. See you there, Sam.

[Steve sounds happy to have that response. He gives Sam a nod that just might be approval before he disconnects.]

[She drops the joke, but Steve notices that she doesn't say anything in regard to her own image. No defensive retort or comment to tell him he's stepping out of line.]

We can still run. [Apparently it is as simple as that.]

Great.

[She suddenly looks exhausted.

Talking with people. Who knew it would be this complicated?

One thing's for sure. She's going to have to start taking notes on all of this shit. It's so over her paygrade, not that she would EVER admit that.]

I'm sorry.

[For the first time, Steve actually seems to relax slightly.]

You don't have to be sorry. Just be yourself.

It seems that being myself involves me living with my foot in my mouth.

[Truer words were probably never spoken. Fatima isn't exactly famous for looking before she leaps.]

Or being yourself means being comfortable with yourself.

Not everyone is going to be accepting or fair, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't like yourself. And maybe start with an easy hello. I hear that one works well.

[Blocky Steve is also a bit of a high school guidance counselor. But Fatima doesn't mind. She can take the words in the spirit in which they're given.]

A novel approach. Let me try it.

Hello.

Probably. Things happened differently, for all of us. A man's experiences really shape him. [There are a lot of differences, but talking about them... That's too personal for Bucky. He doesn't know the other Steve well enough to say, anyway.]

...The other me probably has other things on his mind. [And that's about as much as she's going to get about the other Bucky, as a stranger on a public channel. There are some secrets he won't spill, even if they aren't his.]
