[This is actually Illya’s first post on the network, ever. He already doesn’t trust any kind of open communication, he knows how easily it can be bugged- and that’s not even taking into account the fact that they have to depend on a method of communication given by those who have basically kidnapped them. It’s useful, and he uses it to communicate with people but he sticks to one-on-one conversations.

...But, wouldn’t you know it, forgetting the main reason why he’s so careful apparently made him lower his guard. Who knew?]

Hello.

[He also looks way, way more relaxed, and one could almost call the way his lips seem to be twitching up a smile. Almost.]

Name is Illya, for those who don’t know me. Illya Kuryakin. I know most of us are dealing with.... Whatever is happening, with the loss of memory. But I think that’s all the more reason to be prepared.

[He goes on, unaware that he’s just… revealed his actual name to everyone over the network. Because since he forgot he’s a spy, he also forgot all about his secret identity. He’ll be pissed, but that’s apparently going to be a problem for future Illya.]

So I’ve been thinking about giving self-defense classes, to anyone who would be interested. I am most experienced in SAMBO, but I know many fighting styles. If you are looking for a sparring partner I would be interested, as well.

That is wise. [He... also doesn't know what's waiting for him back home, with U.N.C.L.E. and his new working relationship with both Solo and Gabby. But his 'getting ready' is more emotional than anything she's implying.]

[He nods, because that’d make sense even if it doesn’t quite feel right. But to be honest, nothing feels quite right. He remembers being an athlete, he remembers loving his country and doing his best to make it proud, but there’s still an… intensity in everything he does he can’t quite figure out.]

Maybe. It’d explain why I know so many different kinds of martial arts and- just a lot of other small things like that.

But I wonder if everybody will be as understanding as you are.

[Illya’s lips twitch downwards slightly- someone else that knew him as Alexei. Laurent doesn’t seem to be mad at him, though, so that’s a plus. He just wishes he could remember why he was using a fake name, but he’s definitely drawing a blank. Maybe when he remembers he will be able to explain himself.]

Not Alexei, no. You can call me Illya from now on, it’s my real name.

[He tilts his head a little bit.] You did win my bid. But I won Damen’s, so I assumed you would rather give up on your teasing than let me go on a date with your fiance.

[LITTLE DID HE KNOW.]

And that shape just happens to be an isosceles triangle.

[ Expressive and happy Illya is nice. If not for the fact that she's certain he's going to hate that this happened once he's back to himself, she'd even be glad for the change. He carries to much on his shoulders, and it really only becomes obvious once the weight has been lifted. ]

You wear geometry very well.

Why are people losing memories?

That sounds like military to me.

[Spy isn't really something that Taako has a concept of; there are rogues, sure, but that's more a personal life choice, and there are probably spies in royal courts and shit like that, but the kind of global espionage that Illya is involved in doesn't quite exist.]

I mean, maybe? But uh, I'm pretty chill. I don't expect anyone to tell me their life fucking story just cause we're friends, you know?

[She sounds... young, so Illya adopts his more gentle demeanor.]

We don't know the cause yet. I think it's not magical in nature, some people that know about that have told me as much. Do you know anyone that's lost memories?

[A smile. Illya has smiled at Nat before, but never this easily. Never this unguarded and open.]

If you are trying to distract me from what I may have forgotten, it’s a good job you’re doing. You’re very pretty as well, of course, but you know that. But what about you? Have you forgotten anything?

Maybe I forgot I was a soldier. I am proud of my country and when I was little I... used to dream of that.

[It's incredibly frustrating, though, to be making guesses about his own life like this and not be able to know anything for sure. Hopefully they will figure out what's causing the memory loss soon because Illya is Not A Fan so far.]

I'm sure I had my reasons to lie. But I just want people to know that even if I didn't give them my actual name what I said, who I am was real. We're still friends.

[She's quiet for a moment.]

No. I don't know very many people.

Do you?

Well that's all I needed to hear, bubbale. We're cool.

[That was his concern, that Alexei was some front with ulterior motives for befriending him, but it seems like that isn't the case, so he's reassured for him.

He feels like he needs to say more.]

I dunno what you forgot, maybe it's the soldier thing, maybe it's something else, but I, uh, I mean-- I get it. How it feels to be missing something important, we'll figure this out.

[He's... trying to be reassuring.]

Well, I happen to be very good at what I do, which is being distracting. Hopefully you haven't forgotten that, too.

[ He really does look good when he smiles. ]

So, mister rowing champion. If I found you a boat and a lake, would you like to row me?

[ Now the word she says is row, but somehow the way it drips off her tongue, and the amusement in her eyes... well, she's fully expecting his ears to go bright red again. ]

I know some. But I don't really like this... network so this is the first time I've used it.

[To post, anyway. He follows it religiously to check who gets here.]

[She figures it's not a big deal to give it. It's just a first name, anyway.

Her name's the last thing that's ever gotten her into trouble with humanity.]

Do things like this happen a lot?

... Things going missing.

[Illya just apparently revealed his name to the network without realizing that was something he was supposes to keep secret, so he understands the hesitation.]

Sometimes. It's not always 'things going missing', though. Sometimes it's people changing.

[Illya rarely gets double entendres, both the ones aimed his wa and the ones he accidentally makes. It’s a combination of English not being is first language and how naive he can be about certain things (though he would be frankly pretty angry if they thought him naive about anything else). But in this case it’s even what she’s saying, it’s how she’s saying it.

So yes, there’s a bit a blush that reaches his ears. But he doesn’t stop smiling at her.]

I haven’t actually gotten on a boat for a while, so it would actually be a nice way to get mind off things.

[He nods, because this better be temporary. They may not have figured out the cause of this, but whatever it is it has to be temporary. Everything they have gone through, every weird stuff they have had to suffer has been temporary so all he can do is hope this will be temporary as well.]

What are you missing? Or... were missing?

I'm currently working while I'm here and taking some part time classes at the college. If you're alright with either Tuesday or Thursday afternoons? It's when I have some free time.

[ That fucking blush, it's still hilariously adorable, and apparently not a part of his repression. Good to know. ]

Well, there are a few small lakes in the abandoned area. It's also dangerous, but that could be fun. The river is probably the best I can do for you in the city center, but I'm sure I can find us a boat, either way. When do you want to go?

[It's easy to say casually, as if it didn't ruin his entire life, as if Lucretia didn't take everything from him.]

Your own sister. That… had to be rough. [Not that he has any idea, he’s an only child, but still.

He remembers Taako talking about the voidfish, and how worried Illya himself had been at the idea of something like that existing. Of having something taken away from you and not knowing exactly what, even if you could tell something was missing. He figures whatever’s going is something similar.]

Do you think voidfish have anything to do with what’s going on?

[He shrugs one shoulder.] I don't have adequate clothes to go, so I would need a day or two for that. But apart from that, whenever you want.

Works for me. [Yay flexible schedule at work, since he's basically an independent contractor.]

Should we meet next Tuesday?

That's one word for it.

[It was literally the worst thing that's ever happened to him, and he's died multiple times.

Still, he shrugs.]

Nah, anything fed to the voidfish statics out, and they need to be fed that shit, they can't just pluck knowledge outta thing air, it's gotta be written down.

That would be perfect. [Kate flashes a brief smile.] Where should we meet?
