[ As the video feed began to engage, the image swirled away from a brief glimpse of Will's face, to a fascinating view of a ceiling. Anyone familiar with the offices in the Perimeter Guard buildings might recognize the ceiling; otherwise ... enjoy the paint. ]

Good morning. [ He began in a soft voice, stopping and awkwardly amending. ] Err Good afternoon. [ The concept of time and Will maintained a fairly hands off relationship. ]

My name is Will Graham and I serve as an advisor on monsters and monster encounters for the Perimeter Guard. I am also putting together an introductory course on the subject, though that's not important at the moment.

I am reaching out to the network as a whole because I'm compiling notes on monster encounters in this world. I've experienced a few myself, but was hoping to hear from the rest of the population about your experiences?

Also I'm interested in hear about the monsters or threats that are unique to your homeworlds. I mean, never know what the portal might bring through right? [ Just a little ball of sunshine there William. ]

So ... uhm ... if you have any anecdotes or notes and are willing to share, I'd like to hear them.

[ There was an awkward pause, before he wrapped up the communication. ] You can respond here or if you'd rather talk in person, I'll be in my office most of today.

[Yuffie stares blankly at the screen.]

Monster shows up... it attacks. I attack monster first. What is there to study?

[She's used to living in a world with monsters and killing them. It doesn't feel like such a big deal to her.]

A lot of the monsters here are like the ones on Gaia. Though there is this one monster that looks like a house and I think it's to get people to accidentally walk into it's mouth...which is the door.

[ It's alright, the screen is staring blankly back. ]

Well that's a very direct approach. But I'm not sure it's applicable to everybody who might experience an encounter. Hence why I'm trying to look for a bit more detail.

[ Wry comment is wry. ]

When you say that a lot of monsters here at like the ones on Gaia... [ It was a leading question. ]

That's the name of my planet. There are a lot of monsters there too and they kill a lot of people who leave cities unprepared.

[She doesn't get why he'd want to talk to the monsters.]

Sounds ... terrible.

[ At least he's honest? ]

The monster4 who looks like a house, is it here or back in your home world?

Back on my home world. If I find him here I can let you know.

[She has no problems with that though she might kill him.]

Ah, yes ... please do.

[ Because he's having flashed back to the tales of Hansel and Gretel and is torn between amusement and horror. ]

Could you tell me more about the ones that are similar between here and Gaia?

Yeah, it's a lot of the beasty looking things.

[She raises her hands up and makes them look a little bit like claws.]

Like nibel wolves or those plants that have to many vines.

[ Will took a breath to ask the next, obvious question but then stopped himself and considered for a moment. ]

Do you know how they came to be in your world? Monsters, I mean. Have they always been a threat?

They've always been there. Some think they are the restless spirits of the dead who aren't able to join the life stream.

Everything returns to the life stream and is taken from it. It's the power around the world.

Does killing them, as monsters, help them return to the life stream?

[ He'd like to be able to imagine that was the oddest thing to ever come out of his mouth, but Will knew better. ]

That's the idea. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

[So her world has a lot of death.]

It depends. The planet has been torn by war and that means there are more monsters than usual. Dying angry and scared isn't how you should go.

[ A curious statement. ]

Is that how they end up being ... created, the monsters? By dying angry and scared?

I don't know.

[It isn't like Yuffie sticks around to watch the process.]

It's complicated. [Translated means: Yuffie doesn't remember all the details.] The life stream is the life of the planet and I know that the dead are there because that's where Arieth is.

Arieth?

[ Sorry Yuffie, he's not familiar with any of the players involved here. ]

[Yuffie puffs a soft breath.]

She was a friend of mine. The last Ancient. [Though Yuffie doesn't believe that Arieth had been the last one.] The Ancients could cure and speak to the planet… listen to its stories and hear it crying.

[She shakes her head as if breaking away from a dream.]

Gaia, where I am from, isn't just a planet. It's alive. The life stream and everything is the planets life force. When we die we go back to the planet and our soul can be reborn. It's a cycle of life and death. That's why… I can't be sad when faced with death because the soul doesn't die, not really.

...Had a giant bird kidnap me once. She was looking for her baby, though. Just happened that her song also apparently had an effect on younger people as well. [ Yuri's cheeks puff a bit, unimpressed with admitting that that was what had happened at all. But he couldn't exactly deny that it had- that wouldn't be useful, either. ] There were also these lizard things, when I first showed up here that tried to take a chunk out of me. And then like, a puma, but really really big- out in the jungle. Also rock golems. We blew some up. There was also a giant dragon thing around for awhile, but it was kind of... sweet, really. Big and a little bit dumb and more dangerous for not knowing where it's feet were than actually harmful.

Can you tell me some more about the dragon-like-creature? Is it still around?

Dunno. Last I saw of it it was being lead out of the city because these other monsters were trying to eat it for it's sweet dopey nature. Pretty sure it got away, though. Headed out somewhere deep into the jungle.

Too bad really, would've made an awesome pet.

[ There was a long pause, before Will remarked. ]

Not so sure I'd want to be responsible for cleaning up after it.

...Okay. Fair point.

[ Yuri's brows scrunch together in disgust as he considers that aspect of having an awesome behemoth dragon as a pet. ]

Probably bankrupt yourself feeding it, too. But still. You should have seen it. So cool.

That is sort of the point of me asking about it. [ If he sounds a little prickish just then its ... regretfully normal for Will. ]

I didn't see it, but I'd like to hear about it, in as much detail, as you might remember.

[ He paused and then tried putting on some manners. ]

For instance, you said it wasn't considered much of a threat. Was it a herbivore?

Uuugh, it was awhile ago, and I didn't spend that much time with it so I don't know how much detail I have to tell you. It was big; like, really big. Small hill big? Not Godzilla big but- big. I don't know what it ate, I didn't really see that part. But it was friendly, once you showed it you weren't really a threat to it. It didn't seem to want to willfully hurt anyone, anyway. It just sort of- didn't always know where it's big feet were, you know? What were more of a threat were the lizard things that were trying to take advantage of it's gentle nature and bite chunks out of it. [ Yuri wrinkles his nose, frowning. Nature can be pretty cruel. ] Those came out of the sewer systems.

[ Video had flickered up for a few seconds as the boy seemed to waffle over something, but his feed was switched to audio shortly thereafter. It seemed a little weird to be emoting to a seemingly abandoned phone. ]

I'd be interested in that course, if I could get on some sort of notification list for that! I'm Akihiko Sanada. [ He pauses, but one can hear him tapping a finger on his phone in thought. Way to think of the sound quality, Aki. ] You don't have to worry about the monsters from my world I don't think.. I've only fought with a couple kinds of plant based monsters myself since getting here, but I assume that's just interesting luck. Is there any information you're looking for in particular?

Akihiki Sanada. [ He repeated the name. ] I have you down and will contact you when I have a class schedule set.

What kind of plant based monsters? Were they [ how to put this... ] mobile? Or did people stumble into them?

..Well the first were literally just plants that spit acidic.. pollen, I guess? They could move around their fronds but only made forward movement with growth. Though, I do think that the Guard said something about the quick growing having to do with a chemical spill, or something. We got rid of the ones too close to the walls but I assume there's more out there.

The second was.. it was deep in near a temple but it was kind of human shaped, so perfectly mobile. So maybe both are moot points for anyone not going too deep into the wilderness, but. [ He pauses, and then laughs, a little awkward. ] Sorry, long winded answer.

[ The sound of a pencil moving across paper might be audible across the comm, as Will took notes.

He paused at the end and inquired. ]

Temple? What temple?

[ Despite Will's video being blank, Akihiko idly glances at it in case he might see whomever started it up. ]

Oh! Um, it's way out in the forests near the Abandoned City. Everyone said some kind of deity had started waking up there, but I don't really have a lot of information on it since I'd not been part of the original scouting party. A lot of the more sensitive residents were picking up it's energy, if you'd heard about it?

I ... hadn't, which is why I was curious.

[ He really has been getting something of an education when it came to the idea of the supernatural and faith in the unseen. Couldn't hurt to learn a bit more. ]

Was this 'waking up' something recent?

That's fine, I just didn't want to be repetitive. [ Akihiko is fiddling with his phone again. ]

It was, I think- I only got here last month, but it seemed like a pretty fresh discovery. People predisposed to sensing that kind of thing were affected by it- I don't know for anyone else, but it was kind of just like..

[ He pauses to try to come up with an example that related to anyone not from his own homeworld. ] Like how it feels before really big storm, but the weather was fine. I think Gramarye was able to use more specific accounts to trace it's vague location before scouts were sent out.

[ On the other end of the connection, the video feed continues to point up towards the ceiling. If one didn't know better, one might assume that Will was deliberately staying out of sight. ]

Gramarye?

I've heard that word a couple of times now. Is it simply an institution, or also a person?

[ Akihiko would be lying if he didn't say the blank feed with a voice didn't make him more curious than just a voice feed would have. He wants to properly meet whoever is compiling such a useful tool! ]

Yeah, its an organization! I think.. Von Doom? Is the name of the guy who runs it. Not ominous at all, right? [ His tone is obviously amused. ] Did you just get here? Props on going and getting your footing so fast. [ Akihiko hasn't ever left his home town, so he's not quite known how to get information other than osmosis and jumping headfirst into volunteering. So if Will is new- he's impressed. ]

When the 'just kidding' didn't come, he gave his head a shake -off camera- and went on to answer the question. ]

I've been here a couple of months. Been working on gathering information and, as you say, getting my footing. I was recently promoted to Monster Advisor for the Perimeter Guard, so it made sense to start trying to compile some notes.
