[For a boy with one eye, Ciel manages to look very sleep deprived, settled down at a small table, a cup of tea steaming to his right, a thick book in one hand, his communicator settled and recording in the other, his bad eye covered with a plain black patch.]
I really ought to just purchase my own copies after the fire. I'd really prefer not to be held responsible if these books had been damaged. Doctor Arthur really outdid himself since I last saw him though, these are greatly improved from his first novel. You can tell he'd gained confidence.
[He lets out a drawn out yawn and the takes a sip of the tea.]
I do apologize for the late hour. I thought I'd do some reading and I'm somewhat curious about the preferences some of you might have in terms of books. I've a great deal of time on my hands, even with managing Funtom, so it wouldn't hurt to have recommendations.
[A soft sigh.] I miss England.

Video;
[A little smile.] It's just amazing to see how his story in Beetons and his writing style evolved.
[He looks interested.] I haven't read either before actually.
Video;
[ He could still remember being half asleep reading the book curled on a chair by the fireplace. It was a good memory. Which had been rare.
He arched his brow hearing that, before taking a breath and without a book recites one of the poems he knows by heart, which might sound strange in his bowery voice.]
A thing of beauty is a joy for ever:
Its lovliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness; but still will keep
A bower quiet for us, and a sleep
Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing.
Therefore, on every morrow, are we wreathing
A flowery band to bind us to the earth,
Spite of despondence, of the inhuman dearth
Of noble natures, of the gloomy days,
Of all the unhealthy and o'er-darkn'd ways
Made for our searching: yes, in spite of all,
Some shape of beauty moves away the pall
From our dark spirits. Such the sun, the moon,
Trees old and young, sprouting a shady boon
For simple sheep; and such are daffodils
With the green world they live in; and clear rills
That for themselves a cooling covert make
'Gainst the hot season; the mid-forest brake,
Rich with a sprinkling of fair musk-rose blooms:
And such too is the grandeur of the dooms
We have imagined for the mighty dead;
An endless fountain of immortal drink,
Pouring unto us from the heaven's brink.

[His lack of having read a number of things could easily be attributed to his work. And the fact that all the books the Phantomhive's had collected over generations had burned with the mansion.
He's at least read Poe but he'd also woken up from a nightmare after that and pointed a gun at his butlers head.
Ciel listens though, a little captivated, and a little nostalgic. Maybe he hasn't read it himself but hearing it-]
I think... my mother may have read that to me once. I was much younger and ill.
Video;
[ Jason wouldn't ever judge someone pulling a gun on someone in bed, he sleeps with knives instead of his guns these days due to to many roommates.
Jason reached up and scratched his cheek some. ]
Keat's must have been wonderful to hear from your mom. I don't remember my mom ever reading to me. I mostly remember her singing before she died, on her good days anyway. You mentioned before you were ill as a child, is it to personal to ask what had you ill?
Re: Video;
[At least Ciel's option has a safety.]
Her voice was always relaxing, I loved listening to her read. [He almost shakes his head but no one here, except one person, knows anything of substance about his life except what his amnesia had revealed.]
I inherited asthma from my mother. So my health was very fragile.
Video;
[ He pictured him as Bruce, he wouldn't say it but thats what he saw in his mind when he pictured both the author and Sherlock. ]
I think most kids love that of their mother, and if you were sickly even more so. That's how it should be. Did she die?
[ He has no shame in asking it, after all, everyone he seemed to befriend had dead parents.]
Shit, that sucks. You should go see a doctor here, we have medicine in the modern day that can mostly cure it all away. God, back in your time that shit would have been deadly.
[ He hated to think of his cool one eyed friend as dying from an asthma attack.]
Video;
[He smiles faintly.]
Both of my parents were murdered several years ago, and my manor burnt to the ground. [And then he adds:] We still don't know the culprits.
[It's the usually follow-up question.]
It can be. My aunt, Madam Red, was a doctor. She reminded me of that fact frequently. I haven't had a fit in some time though, I should be more or less cured.
[It's a lie. It's only been about half a year since he'd last had an asthmatic fit but he's already revealed he has asthma to one person. He's not quite ready to reveal it to more people.]
Video;
My deepest condolences. I hope your able to find them and make them pay some day.
[ Jason had no shame he was all about that Vengeance game. And having lost his parents, and grown up under a man who lost his and dressed like a giant bat to scare criminals, well vengeance was important to him.
He looked amused at the aunt's name. It was always Red. Red was a good color though.]
Yeah, often people can grow out of it. I hope that's the case. I'd hate to see something happen to you, if you ever do feel like something like that is happening call or text me and I'll help get you to a doctor.
Video;
I'll find them. Someday. After all, they didn't finish the job, the Phantomhives are still alive.
[They had to come after him eventually. He's made sure he does as good a job as Watch Dog as his father had, if not better. Even to the point of connecting with his fathers associates among the Villainous Nobles.
His aunt had such blinding red hair, it was fitting.]
I... am not sure if I'll have the chance if it happens but I will try at least.
Re: Video;
Good, you make those fucks pay for what they did to you and your family.
[ He was all about that vengeance. And Ciel seemed like a nice enough kid in his jaded eyes, so he wanted to see the kid get closure. ]
Trying's all you can do, anyway, if you want later we could swing by the bookstore and I could show you some of my favorites. Everything here is a little off but close enough.
Video;
They're going to regret even looking at us. [His expression could be mistake as pleasant but there's absolutely the intent of murder behind it.]
I would enjoy that, actually. I enjoy filling my free time with books, at the least. Not many opportunities for games of chess here and Funtom is still small enough that I can finish work in only a few hours.
Video;
Jay smirks for just a second before shrugging.]
I'll be off work in about 2 hours if you want to go tonight just send me a message after that. Also, if you need someone to play Chess with, it's been awhile, but I can play.
Video;
I'll be sure to be free then. And I'd appreciate the challenge, I could rarely get a good game out of anyone back home.
Action.
A quick trip through the book store and it turned out there was actually a chess board set up in the cute little shop, so a game was set up Jay sitting in one chair with some tea coffee he had ordered with far to much cream and sugar in it. So far he was doing alright in the game. Not exactly a master player, but he was better than one might expect. ]
Action
He's not going to be as brutal with his chess tactics with Jason as he had been with his aunt, Tanaka, or with his father. He has a cup of black tea in front of him, with sugar and cream.]
Action
It was like playing with Alfred, he rarely won against the old man, but it was always enjoyable. A drink was taken of his coffee. He was one of those coffee addicts.]
Your good at this, is it one of those things your trained in, or just raw skill?
Action
A bit of both, really. I've been called a genius in some things, but I was very strictly tutored over the past few years. I had to be comparable in intelligence to adults to reach Earldom.
Action
Genius isn't a title given lightly. My younger brother was often called a genius. He was far to smart for his own good. [ Jason nodded.] It must be hard, but I do understand in a way, having to grow up fast to be respected by adults isn't easy no matter the era. They do respect you, right?
Action
Most do, yes. Through fear in some cases but others because the role I fill is a difficult one, even for those raised as Phantomhive.
Action
[ Though, he couldn't see this kid dressing as a bat at night and beating up criminals.]
Action
It's certainly an effective method. Fear and anger is what drove me, I admit, to become as effective a Watchdog as I am.
Action
Yeah, you sound a lot like B. [ He couldn't help but grin at that, he couldn't stay in the same room as Bruce for long, and yet he found Ciel's company very enjoyable. Maybe it's because Ciel didn't seem bitter to him, and none of the bad blood was there.] And, hey if it makes you good at your post then it's perfect, right?
Action
[Outwardly, Ciel wasn't bitter. Inside though? The bitterness has had years to fester towards whoever had killed the people most important to him, who had targeted them on his birthday, the households guard down.]
