Good morning. I've recently arrived in Riverview - my name is Mordred.

Suggestions are both welcome and encouraged as I learn my way around this lovely city. So is advice. [Although that could be such a bad idea. It's fine. He's accepted his choices.] In the meantime, I'll be fulfilling a position with Gramarye Magic Research.

Those of you that use magic yourselves, I sincerely hope our paths will cross while I'm here.

I apologize -- unfamiliar circumstances make me nosy.

[And he gathers, from that turn of phrase, that he's holding a conversation with an immortal, which is... always a reason to be on one's guard.]

Would you happen to know the founder? Again, for curiosity's sake.

[ Hmm. ]

I do not. I assume it came to be when there was need for it.

[That is honestly an acceptable answer.] Fair enough.

Your position there, then?

And your name, if you're so inclined. I'd love to know my future coworkers.

I am one of the researchers and adviser.

[Oh. Loki.]

I see. It's a pleasure, then. I look forward to working with you -- and being advised, when appropriate.

Are you afraid I might be inappropriate?

[For some reason he finds this very funny.]

I hope I won't REQUIRE it that often.

Well, I am a bit hungry at the moment.

But then I'd miss an opportunity to make myself at home in this lovely city. So if you have any alternative suggestions?

I am not particularly invested in the necessities.

[ Loki does them because he has to. It's still an uphill climb to want beyond that when all his ambitions are dust. Still . . . he is curious and Loki is willing to venture out for the sake of curiosity. ]

But there are a few decent shops that serve food and coffee, I believe.

I'll settle for decent.

Should you manage to summon up a scrap of investment, I'd be honored to have the god of mischief join me. You could even call it orientation.

[ Honoured. A strange concept. ]

Very well. Where should we meet?

[A moment or two, while he gives it some thought. He's still quite new, after all.]

I noticed a coffee house not far from the communal tower, in fact. [They were advertising cinnamon sugar-flavored coffee. He will not admit that this is relevant.] Any objections?

None. I shall see you there.

[The cafe is close enough, in fact, that Mordred beats him there -- not by long, but long enough to get his hands on that cinnamon sugar coffee and make sure there is a sufficient amount of sugar in it without anyone noticing (which is sort of a silly thing to do on his part, but sometimes he can't help it; even a little bit of fae blood comes with a sweet tooth).

Following a constant preference to be outdoors whenever possible, Mordred takes a seat at one of the tables along the street outside and watches people come and go, picking at an iced blueberry muffin that made overtures to him at the checkout counter and keeping his magic withdrawn, subdued, less likely to immediately draw the eye of any passersby who might be sensitive to it. Unless they were looking, of course.

He rather expects he'll be able to pick Loki's signature out of a crowd, anyway.]

[ Loki arrives seemingly out of nowhere. No longer does he wear his trademark armor and clothes, often opting for well made and tailor cut to his needs. He never dresses casually, no matter where he goes. His gaze roams around the coffee shop, no doubt, looking for a person of magic. Once Loki spots Mordred, a cool grin flits through his expression as he approaches. ]

[It's a good look. And there is enough of a distinction between Loki's... aura, in a manner of speaking, and everyone else's around him that it draws Mordred's eye promptly, and he rises from his seat to greet the Norse god of mischief. Well, it actually wouldn't be the first time, although he can honestly say that brunch is a first.

He answers with half a smile of his own, as the magic under his skin prickles with interest. The power of a magical god would go through him like a charge, and as near-impossible as that is to resist, it's why he doesn't offer his hand.]

Glad you could make it. You ought to choose the next time, I think.

[ Next time. Bold words. Loki merely makes a half shrug before taking a seat gracefully. ]

Let us see what this time reveals. You look well for a man who should be long dead.

[ Of course Loki knows the name medraut. He is the God of many tongues. ]

Well. He didn't last that long after all -- not even in on entirely different planet. That smile fades and Mordred's expression closes; there's no anger, or even bitterness, for Loki being able to wrap context around his name. There's just Nothing.]

I try. [He takes his seat as well, lounging a bit, and says exactly nothing else about it.]

I've encountered Loki in my own world, once or twice. But I would have been very surprised to see him here, in Riverview.

[ That is hardly surprising. There is always a trickster, a chaotic godly element in almost all worlds. Whatever name is given, the nature of it rarely changes. Loki signals the waiter as he crosses his leg. He wasn't expecting such an extreme reaction and he files it away quietly. ]

Is it? I am known for my surprises after all.
