[Tony's in his workroom, look surprised. His expression is deadpan, but there's something almost pleased underneath it. An almost imperceptible loosening of the tension that's always there in the set of his shoulders.]

So I know we're all well aware that this place is weird as hell, but does stuff just like. Turn up sometimes? Your stuff, I mean. From home.

[As he's talking, a metal arm pops into view behind him. The claw at the front of the arm clicks together once, then starts slowly creeping forward like it's trying to peer at the camera over Tony's shoulder. It's about the least subtle thing imaginable, considering the robot's sheer size, but Tony seems to be quite comfortably ignoring it.

At least until the claw nearly knocks right into the camera and Tony has to move it out of the way like he's holding it out of the range of a toddler. The robot arm is still taking up most of the image now, though. When Tony's voice comes again, it's more than a little resigned.]

'Cause this definitely mine. Unfortunately.

How old is he?

Uh. About thirty or so? Why?

Then he's a good friend. Thirty years is a long time.

[She looks pleased; see: mutant child who has been so sheltered and changed by circumstance, she doesn't see why a robot would be seen as non-human.]

Do you have other friends like him?

A couple, yeah. U and Butterfingers. Seems like Dum-E's the only one that's turned up though.

[He pauses.]

Well, not just him. But the other one has to get a thorough defragging first.

[... She's mildly confused by the terminology, but she puts two and two together]

The other one is -- broken. Not working properly.

[Right?]

I need to check over his coding, yeah. Just to make sure it's all working right.

[He might be a little paranoid about AIs right now.]

[Coding... what the heck is coding.

She's gonna have to grab some computer books and get good.]

Is he nice, too?

JARVIS? Oh yeah, he's great.

[Sarcastic as hell, but then Tony did build him that way.]

JAR-VAS.

[Her accent makes it sound even more dorky a name, thanks.]

What does JARVAS do?

He's an AI. Sort of like an operating system but with opinions.

[Okay he does a lot more than that, but still.]

[AI, artificial intelligence, yes. She remembers talk of things like that.]

Are they good opinions?

Usually. He's a pretty smart guy.

[Huh. Neat.]

They didn't have AI, where I was - born.

They had robot arms and cameras, but people controlled them.

There aren't many AIs where I come from either. Mostly just JARIVS. And a lot of inferior attempts at making them.

[He'll be judgmental about SIRI if he feels like it.]

[She has SIRI in her pocket, don't you badmouth her.]

You really like robots a lot.

Is that your super power?

I don't have a superpower, so to speak. But I do like building things.

[It does make her think.

To most anyone, she sounds strange; to anyone who knows her, it makes enough sense, but...]

Do you make people, too?

What, like build them?

[Tony's eyebrows lift.]

Not really my skillset. Well, there is the one. But he's more like an android, and that was complicated.

... Not like that.

[But if he goes straight to that reply, maybe he's unaware.

Of what Transigen can do.]

Not really sure what you mean, then. And biology's never been my strongest suit.

[She shakes her head.]

... Nevermind.

Can I meet the robot? The arm.

Dum-E. And sure, if you want to.

[She nods, appeased.]

I will sneak away from Linda.

Or you could just...ask? I mean, you should be able to go see friends and things.

[Are they friends? Close enough.]

I don't like asking.

I like to just go.
