Although, I am grateful for the orientation and helpful information I have recieved in the days since my arrival, it cannot instill the unique perspective of those who have been brought here and their experiences. I would appreciate hearing those perspectives and if those brought here are indeed seeking the new home that was expressed by the assistants.

It is not a sentiment I am sure that I believe, but as I said, each perspective is unique.

Neither was I. It sounds rather whimsical and romantic, for lack of a better word, to be seeking a new home and find yourself in another world entirely. Even so, to some, perhaps seeking somewhere different from where they found themselves is close enough to qualify.

Some may benefit from it, anywhere but home might be a better home to them.

There are a few reasons they offer for winding up here, feeling displaced, being about to die, or your home world being about to vanish are the main three that I've heard. I felt displaced a lot where I was before, I'm sure... but I wasn't looking for a new place to feel just as lost. I wanted to go back where I was before, if not my own world the place after that.

In theory, I suppose the fact that I'm going home to die is also a factor. Maybe I'm not here because I felt displaced at all, the portal just drew me in to prevent me from going home to die.

I appreciate your honesty. My own situation was not ideal. Perhaps I sought refuge, without conscious thought of where that refuge might be.

The portals are sentient in some fashion, that much is what I have come to see more than one person believe.

There are a lot of theories going around, it's hard to pinpoint what's rumor and what's fact a lot of the time.

The remaining portal was alive once, but from my research it doesn't seem to be any longer. I'm not sure how that works or why it even would, you would think a portal that died could no longer transport people.

Even if something dies, the energy that existed is not gone. The body may be acting out of instinct in absence of soul.

That's not really how things work where I'm from so I'll take your word for it.

The possibilities are endless in that regard. I doubt that any two worlds are identical. My own world is world is unlike this world, or even the worlds connected to it.

Yeah, a lot of people have asked me if the worlds I've been to previously are like this one. Honestly, it's hard to say, they definitely have their similarities but I wouldn't call them alike.

The other world I visited was certainly not like this one. This one is far closer to my own, despite the many differences.

The whole being pulled in against your will, people disappearing without warning apparently to go home, people you know not remembering you and a few other factors make this world similar to the last two I was in.

This place doesn't really have any expectations of us though, just live life, no concept of redemption or need for assistance to keep the place running like I've seen before.

It's nothing like where I'm from originally, for one the technology is far more advanced and it's a quarantine that seems to include only one city.

Being taken against your will, is similar enough, but those who entered did not leave without finding our own means. This world is far kinder, less menacing, but far harder to leave.

I am not sure which is less desirable.

At least they're actively trying to find a way to send people back who want to go. They're just working within their own limits.

I have had no cause to believe otherwise of them, although their attempts still may prove for naught. I appreciate their intent, however long it may take. This is a fascinating world, but my place is not in it.

That's the whole nature of this place, no one belongs in it.

As for your question, I think it is really subjective. It can be really difficult to adjust to such a strange place that, depending on where you are from, is vastly different from where you were from. There is also the fact you are completely starting over from scratch. So even if for a moment you had such a feeling of displacement or urge to start over... the reality of it can be unlike what you were expecting.

Displacement feels like a more apt term. A fleeting sense in some, stronger than others. Did you feel that yourself before arriving here?

I believe we all have to some measure to arrive. Given the mechanics of selection. It would be a horrendous lie to say otherwise.

The mind and soul become vulnerable in those moments, but it leaves the question of how the portal is capable of connecting to us during those times. We cannot be the only ones who have such feelings, yet we are those chosen.

There could be many factors in the selection that are not yet understood. I am sure that they must be conducting a study to see what parameters the portal might be using. Which will wholly depend on the honesty of those coming through, and the information they provide.

It is true that it would be hard to verify information when it is best given voluntarily, but it is also better to assume those who do provide have no reason to lie in this circumstance. I have not yet been asked any such questions, but I have not been here long enough for my answers to have been approached.

If one were to want to volunteer for a study like this, what institute would be the most likely?

I've been here about six months. It's been a lot of adjusting. If I was able to go back now...I don't know if I would. I have responsibilities here now.

I understand. Responsibilities cannot be ignored. It takes an honorable person to choose duty first, even if the choice is not a difficult one to make.

Do you believe you were displaced, or in need of a new home when you arrived?

I don't know if I'm so honorable as all that.

I've always felt out of place where I'm from. I'm different from everyone around me, so it makes it difficult.

Different enough to wish to find another place where you may be better accepted? That is the theory I believe. I have felt different myself, although thankfully not in a way that was too difficult or insurmountable. I do not believe it contributed to my presence here.

Probably. I mean, I was considered to be less than nothing by most of my people back home, so there was a definitely a difference when I arrived here that I liked.

I apologize if my questions have been invasive. I have found the people here to be very welcoming, despite the circumstances. It helps acclimating ourselves, although they seem to care little about the specifics out how we come to be here.

If that is so, would you mind explaining more about your experience in arriving here. What you believe may have led to you being chosen by the portal.

I come from a people made up of warriors. If you can't fight, you're nothing. I was born crippled, so everyone believed it would have been better if I'd never been born. Much as I've proved myself over the years to everyone around me, I still feel out of place no matter what I do.

[Small wonder then that the portal had chosen him.

I suppose it is possible that someone came here seeking a new home.

That wasn't me or my teammate. We have something to do back home and this is keeping us from it.

I understand that feeling of leaving things unfinished. Someone else has mentioned the sense of displacement would be a better deciding factor and I agree.

Leave the exact location we were in? Yes I did. It was necessary to our plan that we leave the location we were in for somewhere else. This is not exactly what I meant.

I believe you have misunderstood, I should have been more clear. I did not mean in the essence of wanting to move from one location to another, but feeling as if you were in a place you did not want and could not stay in with having a concrete idea of where you could go.

The desire to be anywhere but where you were at that time. It is a common feeling for people to have, for different reasons.

Possibly. I don't recall thinking that, but it doesn't mean I didn't. There was a lot going on and our plan had a bug in it so we were having to scramble to fix it. That was the place we needed to be though

It is similar, but different from my own experience. If you knew exactly where you needed to be, then it is not the same as feeling wholly displaced. There must be a less obvious common denominator the portal uses to link to the people it connects with.

I've wondered about that. They've said it was because I wanted to leave but that's not really the case. Of course they have their theory so why worry about anything else. There has to be something else.

I am interested in hearing those other theories. They may believe theirs is the most likely but that does not mean the others should be dismissed without due scrutiny. Would you know any of the other more prevalent beliefs?

Personally, I don't know any other theories. I have noticed that the portal seems to pull a lot of people different skills, mainly fighting or something similar. A large number of the Quarantine residents are in the Perimeter Guard in the special units for work. I don't think that's a coincidence.

So they have a variety skills, but they are combat-related? Are there few doctors or farmers?

There are some who don't really have any fighting skills and have no interest in it. One of the girls I've met here has no interest in fighting at all. Of course there are people in other professions as well, but it seems strange.

I see. Thank you for the information. I wonder if our unique skills also influence what factors lead to us being chosen for this endeavor. It seems I will learn little if I do not ask more people directly of their experiences
