There's something I've been thinking about over the past few months of being here: the portal appears to have a distinctly Human bias. I'm Human myself but I come from a universe with hundreds, if not thousands of other sapient species, yet the three of us who are here from that universe are all Humans. What's more is that no one else I've talked to here has ever encountered or even heard of the other people we share our galaxy with, no more than I'd known of Asgardians or Elves or the Prawn before I arrived. On the other hand, despite vast other differences in our realities here, most people seem to know about Humans, which seems strange to me. Surely there must be an infinite number of universes out there without Humans, right? So why are there no representatives of those worlds? Or simply more representatives of a wider variety of peoples?

Now, if this was one of the historical portals built by the inhabitants of the planet we orbit, I wouldn't think as much of it - perhaps they'd specifically target realities that were closest to their own. But if this one is supposedly a natural occurrence, then why this pattern of selection?

Any thoughts on this?

Gonna preface this one with the fact I'm not the theory guy but like, anyone from my reality could've turned up but it was people I knew, so maybe it kinda knows? Or like, picks up feelings from people on this side of the portal the way it's supposed to pick up that we feel displaced or whatever?

And there's a lotta people here from realities with only humans. If they're pulling from the same place cause there's already dipshits from there here, then you're gonna end up skewing human.

I think you might be onto something though. Admittedly, I'm not even born yet in Jim and Leonard's timeline but I think we're more the exception to the rule - most people seem to know the other people from their realities, in one fashion or another.

According to the city inhabitants, the portal picks up on feelings of "displacement." I don't know about other species and can't speak to their experiences, but it's possible that's what's drawing in such a high number. Humans and restlessness is a pretty common trait.

I've also heard some say the portal may be sentient and therefore favor a certain population, but I don't have any proof of that.

You know, I've never thought of restlessness as being a Human trait but I then again I guess we like to phrase it as being curious or talk about how we're explorers instead. Either way it could be a factor - though in my case the portal was not particularly precise in its decision making. If it is sentient... well that brings up even more questions.

What do you mean, it wasn't precise?

As for it being sentient, again, I don't have any evidence of that. All I know for sure is that it's naturally occurring. I would be interested in any research that may be put into it, that's for sure.

I was wondering the same thing. like why has no one else heard of Yeerks or Andalites, they're both huge deals where I come from. not like I mind no one's heard of Yeerks at least because they're literal brain-stealing parasites, but it's still a little weird.

I know back home humans were all over the place because there's just a lot of us compared to other species or whatever. I guess we're big on the whole population thing.

Glad I'm not the only one! Can you tell me more about the non-Humans you've encountered? I take it the Yeerks are not friendly, but what about the Andalites? What's your relationship with them like?

the Yeerks are a parasite type of alien, they live in pools and look like slugs, and if they can crawl in through the ear of a person or animal with the right kind of brain, they take over. you're conscious in there, but they're the ones in control, and they can do whatever they want.

Andalites are like blue centaurs with scorpion tails and eyes on stalks, and they eat through their feet. they're really technologically advanced and most of them are kinda stuck up about it. then again I've only mostly interacted with soldier Andalites, and I hear the civilians are a bit different.

Well... humans love writing stories, and movies, and other things about places far away from Earth. Weird places like Oz or whatever. Maybe we just like the idea of other stuff a lot more than other races do? With impossible things like all the stuff here.

We want stuff we can't have, because it isn't really a thing. Maybe that's what the portal likes?

I have no been here long, but it is a distinction I have noticed as well. I wonder if perhaps the worlds and minds easiest for the portal to access as those similar to the people that existed here before. It may know the feel of their souls and seek out the familiar in others.

I'd like to point out that some of my closest friends are humans. But I immediately picked up on the fact that humans are well loved by this portal.

I have met a great many people from Terra here since arriving. Many more than I ever had in my own universe.

Perhaps the nature of the portal is drawn to the desires of humans more often.

That seems to be the consensus a lot of people are coming to, though I admit it's not a particularly satisfying answer.

I take it Terrans are not very common in your universe, then?

I admit, my knowledge is a good deal outdated compared to others but perhaps humans have an easier time acclimating to this place than some other peoples.

Where I'm from, the hyur outnumber us miqo'te by far, though I cannot speak for their numbers against those of the other races.

It hadn't seemed so strange to me until you pointed it out.

I suppose it stands out because I'm so used to living among dozens of other races. Human population numbers aren't much different than anyone else's so no one group tends to dominate.

But I have never encountered the miqo'te. Would you tell me more about your people?

I've wondered about this too! I come from a world with all other sorts of sentients, but everyone who's come from the same place as me has been human. I was thinking maybe it had something to do with the portal, but you're right ... if it's natural, something seems off about it.

I'm wondering more and more if there isn't some sentience behind the portal itself.

There's a wormhole in my universe that's lived in and maintained by a non-corporeal race of beings, so it wouldn't be completely unheard of.

I do know of other species that could easily pass for human and vice versa, but I don't know if that describes your particular situation? Either way, I wouldn't be surprised to find I have made incorrect assumptions about some of the people I have met here because of that.
