[It's the first time in awhile since she's appeared on the network; those that know her may recognize that her usually calm demeanor was frayed by the edge of tension settled in her shoulders. A rigid frown mars her features as she adjusts the video feed, brows drawn in consideration before she speaks.]

Have there been any cases here of people suddenly developing some kind of... ability? A-- "magic" kind...?

[God, it feels stupid to even word it like that, but she's given up trying to make excuses or pretend it isn't what it is. She's been here long enough to know this place didn't follow 'normal' standards.]

If so, I'd appreciate any information about it. Especially a way to get rid of them. Or at least control them. I kind of need an expert here. [A tired sigh, followed by her rubbing her temples in small circular gestures, probably without even noticing.]

[He's smiling as the video feed initializes. Magic is fairly commonplace where he comes from, and he's starting to see it as fairly adorable how uncertain people who come from less magic-prone worlds seem to be when they say the word.]

Oh, I don't know if it's "sudden" so much as "latent", but no. Most mages don't exhibit the inclination from birth. The talent normally shows itself around the ages of five to nine.

[He frowns, though.]

I can't honestly think of a reason to get rid of it any more than one would wish to be rid of their sense of smell, but I'll be of what assistance I may.

[And he inclines his head.]

Dorian Pavus. A pleasure.

[She's come to expect that magic was the norm. And yet she can't help the deadpan, almost blunt delivery that follows:] Of course there are magic child development milestones. Naturally.

[She could imagine how much Trixie would love that idea. Conjuring chocolate cake and unhealthy cereal at will. But that's not the order of business right now.]

People usually consider their sense of smell as something helpful rather than a nuisance. [That about sums it up, anyway, Dorian.]

Chloe. Chloe Decker. I'd appreciate any advice, if you have it.

Well, certainly. It's a natural development, after all, quite like entering womanhood.

[He smiles.]

It's certainly not a nuisance, Chloe, though it can be dangerous if not harnessed properly. Tell me, first, have you experienced any...troubling dreams of late?

[Alec studies the image on the screen for a few seconds, trying to place the speaker. Isn't she someone he's seen around the apartment building or the nightclub?

Considering both her and her question, he's not sure if he's the best person to answer, but at least he can reassure her that she's not crazy or that magic is something to be afraid of.]

People suddenly developing magical abilities happens in my reality. It's not common, but it does happen.

I only know about magical theory, but there's people here that could help you learn to control it.

[He probably has. Considering her shift in permanent residence to Lux, she would imagine plenty of people have seen her around by now. But as she's got her own mission to complete, she doesn't quite place him. Yet, anyhow.]

And what happens to the people in your reality, then? If they do develop them?

Magical theory or not, I'm all for answers of any kind. I'd rather get rid of them entirely, but I'll take what I can get.

That depends on the source of their powers and where they live. Most cultures aren't accepting of those with magic so they hide their powers.

Eventually they find someone else who is part of the supernatural world and they find a teacher. I don't know if you could get rid of them. In my world, magic is related to your family line so it's part of who you are.

Right. I can imagine why, if the whole Salem witch trial period is anything to go by.

[Really, though, if this is possible, then who's to say there wasn't a grain of truth to that as well?

Still, the mention of magic and a 'family line' makes her snort, followed by a knowing, if slightly scoffing twist to her lips.]

From the limited things I've come to know about my own family line, that's not entirely surprising to me.

I know a magic user who lived through the Inquisition.

[Alec's expression turns sympathetic. The mention of Salem means that her world might be the same or similar to his. Which meant that she's a Mundane with the Sight or a Warlock. Most Mundanes wouldn't be happy with either choice of family relations.]

I know quite a few beings with unique family lines. [Himself included but no one in the Lightwood/Bane household had agreed on how much to tell others about their ancestry.] Having magic or a family line that you didn't expect isn't something terrible, no matter what was done in the past.

As in, in person?

[Just to clarify. Though at this point, she wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. What's magic if not some immortality thrown in for good measure? She does know the Devil himself, after all.]

It's less about the family line itself and more about how it was... changed, sort of speak. Or so I'm told. I don't think there's anyone else in my family that can do what I do, and I don't mean that egotistically.

Yes, in person. She was almost burned as a witch.

[He's not going to mention that his husband is the one who rescued her from being turned at the stake. Magnus can be touching about his age.]

In my world, unless it's a gift like the Sight, only one person in that generation usually has the gift. The family line is usually changed for that person, but usually not siblings.

Magic? Yeah, no. That shit's only for kid's birthday parties and shit.

Trust me. If this were a few months ago, I would've agreed with you on the spot.

I do not know if such a thing is possible here, specifically. Where I'm from, most people could use some degree of magic, if they wished to take the time to study and practice.

[ Aside from the Garleans, but they don't count. They're the worst. ]

I would be willing to help you with your newfound abilities in any way I can, if you still have need of assistance.

Yeah. I keep hearing similar things from other people. It's not exactly a common occurrence where I'm from, though. And yet here I am.

[There's definitely a bit of frustration in her voice at that, but she sighs, quelling whatever nerves she felt.]

I'd appreciate whatever help or advice you can offer. I don't really know what to do with them.

[He's not one for video, usually. However, when the message goes up on the network, it certainly catches his attention, but he's at work and his hands are busy with a particularly unruly creeping vine. So, he spares one long enough to pop up the screen.]

[She's not exactly the type to make these kinds of posts, but hey, she's not going to pretend she doesn't need help.]

Well, it's not unheard of. [As in he's just been dealing with another case like it, recently.] Why so displeased?

Let's just say that so far, it's been nothing but a nuisance. To say the least.

All right; it's likely there is some way to get rid of them, as you suggested, but in the meantime learning to take control of them would be your best bet. [A pause, regarding her.] I'd like to know what sort of powers you'd developed, if you don't mind.

[It's obvious she's expecting that question, because she flips the filter to private right away. A sigh slips out of her, as if steeling herself before she speaks.]

I can heal people. Only minor things, like shallow injuries or bruises. It takes a lot out of me, but I can do it if I concentrate. I also... see things. Future things.

[He frowns. One of those sounds bearable, certainly -- but as far as the other, he is in absolute agreement.]

I can see why you'd be frustrated. You've been practicing the healing, at least?

Is it actually magic or just... weird? Cause I did, but it isn't magic.

At least nobody thinks it is.

Really? [Well, color her curious.] What happened to you?

Honestly, I don't know what it really is supposed to be, but magic seems like a good enough word as any. Weird would work too.

I sorta... link with people? And heal them? Like... make their wounds recover faster. If I think about someone too hard and they're nearby.

I think it does other stuff too but it's really hard to test it. And other than not thinking about people I have no way to control it.

What are you doing? If that isn't too personal to ask, I mean you don't have to tell me but talking about it might help you understand it?

[She would be able to see Chloe leaning closer towards the camera, obvious interest and recognition falling over her face before she changes the filter to private.]

I am too — not the linking part, but the healing. I've only done it once or twice, but if I touch someone when they're injured, I can heal them. It's not easy or something I can do by thinking, but I can do it if I try hard enough.

I've also been getting these... visions. Of the future. They're far too vivid and accurate to be a coincidence.

*Lola switches to video when she notices that it's private. Congrats detective, you're dealing with a small blue haired teenager.*

Hmm... Does it heal like all at once. Cause mine- hmm... right I wrote it down.

*Don't mind Lola rummaging through her purse.*

'Enhances metabolic processes and improves physical abilities and mental acuity.' I think it just means I cause stuff to work faster. It takes a little time for things to heal, but they heal faster than, like, normal humans should.

Dunno what to say about the visions, that's kinda creepy. And probably not lucky enough to include lotto numbers... does it include lotto numbers?

[It's not the first time she's seen a kid here, but the hair does momentarily make her raise a brow before she lets it go. Far be it for her to judge someone's parenting choices.]

I have to be directly influencing it. Exerting some kind of... energy, I guess. I don't know what to call it. When I touch someone over their injury, it sort of just knits itself back together. As I said, I have to really be concentrating to do it, though. It takes a lot out of me.

[That comment got a brief smile out of her.] I'm afraid not. I might be more willing to tolerate it if it did. Maybe.

I think I'm exerting energy too, but it's kinda like it's slowly bleeding out of me when I use my powers. I don't really notice it until I fall asleep somewhere random. I've had to increase how much I eat to keep up with how much energy I burn.

Although I'm lucky, if I get too tired I can usually notice cause I can't focus and my hair changes color.

*Lola stop acting like that's normal!*

[She listens in obvious interest. The idea of eating more hadn't crossed her mind, though she supposed it should've. Granted, she's not used to the idea of magic energy burning, so there's that.

The mention of changing hair color does give her pause.]

Your hair does what now?

*Enjoy this teenage staple: the eyeroll. It isn't your fault she gets this question a lot but she has kinda gotten bored of it.*

I had it done a little after I arrived, to save on having to dye it over and over to keep looking like myself.

*Lola's hair turns from blue to a nice forest green over the course of a few seconds.*

It reads my mind a little bit and if I can't focus for any reason it gets lost and turns white. Like when I'm asleep, or exhausted. It's really only a me thing though, nobody else is that interested in color changing psychic hair.

*Because wanting that is weird, Lola. It's very very weird. You're very very weird for having it.*
