What is it about the power going out that turns everyone into snivelling babies? It's a little dark, not the end of the god damn world. There are more than a few people here who come from times before electricity was even a thing, so stop being a baby just because you suddenly have to deal with some shitty candlelight for awhile. [ This, all spoken as though Yuri wasn't the poster child for a technological addiction. He's had to go without snapchat for what feels like a century now, and he misses instagram terribly. What the fuck is wrong with this place that it doesn't have some version of instagram?

But that's not really why he's decided to post to the network, anyway. ]

For all of the monsters and the shitty weather and the other bullshit, I have exactly one nice thing to say about this place:

They gave me back my cat. [ For a split second Yuri's expression softens, but it's gone too quickly to really make note of, as he spins his cellphone down towards the floor, where a small, fluffy white and black cat is winding around his ankles, meowing softly. ] If you're allergic to cats, don't come up to the third floor. I'll try to keep her contained to my apartment, but she's an escape artist. If you see her around, bring her back to me. And if anyone ever hurts her, I will fucking destroy you.

Honestly, even coming from a world without electric lights.. I do miss being able to see at night without candles.

[For personal reasons, having candles lit near her when she's sleepy makes her very, very nervous.]

I haven't seen many cats in person, would you mind if I came to meet her?

She's cute. [He likes cats well enough. Or he thinks he does. Never exactly had time for a pet of any sort back home.] Is your information on her tag? Might help with the escape artist thing.

It's not like it's been permanent. Inconvenient, yeah, but so long as it keeps coming back people need to shut up and quit bitching about it. Or do something to help out with fixing it instead of just whining.

[ Yuri pauses a moment at the question, frowning a little. Does he invite a stranger to come meet his cat? She is the best cat, so he can't really fault anyone for wanting to give her a pet... ]

Yeah, all right. Bring her a can of tuna and she might let you pet her.

She has an inner ear tattoo, but I'd say it's more than a little out of date given we're on a different planet. I'll get her an updated tag as soon as I can, though she's not going to be happy about wearing a collar. [ But whatever kept her safe was what was most important to Yuri. If it meant getting her used to a collar, then he would. ] And damn right she's cute. She's the cutest cat ever. [ Yuri reaches down to where she's winding around his legs, just so he can gently mash his face against hers, smiling as he does. ]

Well... some people don't know how to help, so perhaps they can't help... 'bitching'.

[She has no idea what that word means. She's doing her best to follow the conversation anyway.]

Do you think she'd like a mouse to hunt? [She figures it polite to ask first, since it's one of those 'Letha is weird and is learning to clear her weirdness with other people' things.]

So she's going to be living with us?

Duh. If you have a problem with that you can find another flat.

You don't have to worry about her litterbox or food or anything, I'll take care of it.

No problem here. I love cats. I'm excited to meet her! :)

There's a pet supply store on one of my running routes, I can drop in tomorrow and check if they do tag engraving. [It's nice to see the kid looking happy. He's never seen him smile like that - his cat must be pretty important to him.] What's her name?

Seems like they could still keep it to themselves instead of whining about it for the sake of whining.

[ He pauses, letting the camera linger to where his cat is still winding around his legs, before reaching down to pick her up, the camera spinning to focus on the two of them as she starts to purr. ]

She probably would, but I'm not sure my roommate would particularly enjoy that if the mouse happened to get away, or Korolevna here decided to play with it for a little too long. [ It's a weird question, sure, but it isn't the weirdest thing he's been asked since getting here. ]

[ Oh my god, you're so gross and embarrassing Eddie. He's ashamed of you. Emojis or death. ]

...Good. Cats are the best.

Just bring her home the occasional treat as an offering. Nothing chicken flavoured though, she doesn't like it.

Well, I've been testing something that might prevent that, but... the risk is creating a mouse intent on destroying anything in its path, and I don't think your cat would appreciate that very much.

[She says this as if it's a completely normal train of thought... the only part she decides isn't for a first-time conversation is that her method involves raising mice from the dead.

But she wears a crow skull in her hair, so it might not be that surprising.]

[Eddie is the type of guy who'd say "what's an emoji?" and he comes from 2015. It's pretty shameful.]

You need any supplies or did she come with? I can pick things up on the way home from work.

You don't have to do that for me, I could stop myself you know. Maybe I'll join you for that run. Pick out a tag myself, if they do. [ His cat has started to purr, just happy to be in Yuri's presence it seems. Her paws start kneading empty air, and god damn if Yuri doesn't think that that isn't the cutest thing. ]

Korolevna. [ Because damn straight, she's a princess born. Yuri's expression softens again, and he keeps his forehead and nose brushing against the softness of her fur. ]

My grandpa gave her to me, when I left to train in Saint Petersburg. So that I wouldn't be lonely there. [ Yuri's throat tightens despite himself, to speak of his grandpa. He wonders how he is.

He wonders if he'll ever see him again...

Yuri hopes that Bucky doesn't notice the way he swallows, heavily. Over a painful lump that has formed in his throat. It has only been a few weeks, and he's been away from his grandfather for far longer- but god, this was different, wasn't it? A new world, a new timeline- ]

I hope my old man is okay.

Did you miss the part where I mentioned anyone who hurts my cat is going to be punished tenfold? Because I wasn't kidding about that.

Stick to a can of tuna. Or some cat nip. Or hell, a piece of string with something sparkly on the end.

They gave me a litterbox and a bag of litter, and a couple of cat toys. I was going to go pick up a bag of food for her, but if you don't mind saving me the trip...

Again, no chicken. I usually get a bag of dry food and some wet food and mix them together once a day at the end of the night, and leave out a cup of dry food in the morning so she can graze through the day if she wants. I guess you could pick up food dishes, but I could also just use our bowls.

[ Ew, Yuri. ]

I was just going to text you the address if they did. [Not get a tag for him or anything like that, they aren't close enough for things like that.] But if you want to come along, I won't say no. I usually run with Steve, think you could keep up? [His smile is still small, but it takes on a more teasing note.

Until it softens, just a touch, because he's reminded again that this is just a kid. A kid away from his family by a lot more than just miles. He switches to Russian.]

I'm sure he's fine. You'll get back eventually. [Or he hopes they're working to get the portal configured right to send him back, because otherwise, he'll probably have to do some unsavory things.] Missing people is hard, I know.

I can at least try. [ Whatever softness Yuri had been showing vanishes as he scowls, green eyes going sharp and hard as he glares at his phone, at James as he switches into Russian. ]

It's not like I haven't been away from home before. I don't miss him, I just want him to be all right. He has a bad back. I can take care of myself. [ He sneers a little, all hard edges and sharp spikes once more. Maybe a little more so than usual, compensating for showing any glimpse of hurt that he misses family. It's stupid to be so sentimental, it's stupid to show such a weakness to a glorified stranger. ]

Well you could hardly blame me for it... it would be the mouse's fault for refusing to listen.

[That's exactly how things don't work, Letha.]

I'm sure I can find something to keep her busy. No mice, I promise.

[She may or may not be borrowing a ribbon that didn't belong to her to gift his cat.]

If you want to, I won't stop you. It'll be at least five or ten miles, though. [Possibly more. Trying to keep up with a super-soldier is hard, Bucky knows this better than anyone.

But then the softness he's seen from Yuri is gone, and honestly? The prickly anger feels almost easier, more familiar.]

Depending on how their portal works, it might end up being like you were never gone from there. Timelines can be wonky. A friend of mine here is from farther along than I am.

If you bring it and it attacks my cat, it's your fault. And I'll react accordingly.

[ Yuri watches her for a minute, and almost wonders whether or not he ought to rescind the invitation. Korolevna is something Yuri will do almost anything to protect, especially here. ]

Third floor, door number two. Knock and I'll let you in.

It keeps sounding as though you're trying to talk me out of it. Look, if I can't do it I'll stop. But I'm already getting real sick of everyone underestimating what I can really do. [ Yuri is positively grinding his teeth, now. Bristling as Korolevna mewls for his attention, shifting in his arm to be put back down now that Yuri is grumpy. ]

Whatever. [ He grunts, not bothering to keep up the conversation in Russian anymore. It's stupid anyway, and speaking in Russian just makes it out to be more sentimental than it is. ] I just wish I could send him a letter or something. Make sure he'll be all right.

I'm just making you aware. Hell, I kept up with a super-soldier at sixteen, no reason you can't if you want to. [Then again, he trained extensively with the British SAS and still constantly had to prove himself. He shrugs briefly.]

I'm sure he will be. You might try asking the people in charge if they can send small things one-way, though.

[Letha's harmless... just weird and reckless. She'll refrain from bringing mice anywhere until she knows how to handle them without turning them into tiny killing machines.

Although on second thought she's bringing along her Phantump too, and she doesn't know how he'll react to a cat. So her judgement is still terrible. When Yuri answers the door he gets greeted with a little pregnant girl and her floating cat-sized tree-stump ghost.]

That's totally ageist, dude.
