Can't help with the technology unless there's something that needs tinkering. But instead of reversing vocal cord damage, you might be interested in an electrolarynx. A new voice box.

It's not that creepy. It can be a good thing, if it's the right person.

The only idea I have would be to link your thoughts to someone who can create a voice. Then you'd be able to share your memory of the voice and that person would know how to make it.

Who can do that? No clue, but it narrows your search. [ He's now wondering if Ronan could take a voice out of his head, but he's not going to out his boyfriend to Dodger. ]

[He sends the address, since Shigeru hasn't been there yet. He'll find a cheap but neat studio apartment in a seedy building on the edge of town, and Dodger laying on his back on the loose mattress in the corner filling the room with smoke. He's not wearing a shirt, for whatever reason... probably just because he didn't feel like it.]

[ Shigeru knows it's too early to tell but he likes to thank people anyway. ]

[ But that's all he'll type before he heads over to Dodger's. Unsurprisingly he is living in one of the seedier areas. Dodger!! But Shigeru will come inside with a small knock before he opens the door and carefully closes it. He might have stopped somewhere along the way to pick up some food for them both. He was getting better at eating food from restaurants. So he'll place it on the table before walking closer towards Dodger. He might cough a little as he gets close enough to type something out for Dodger to listen to as the text to speech function turns on. ]

I brought some food over. I wasn't really sure what you wanted or liked, so I got you something called a hamburger? They're supposedly really good from the place I got them from.

[ He gives Dodger a smile as he motions at the table in the small kitchen. ]

[Dodger glances up when Shigeru comes in, but it takes him a few moments to actually sit up and greet him with a lazy wave. A few more moments, and he stubs out the cigarette in the ashtray by his mattress and walks over to investigate the burger.]

Sure, I like them. You seriously don't know what a hamburger is?

[He's already pulling out the burger to take a bite before he's even really looked at Shigeru. It should be noted, if Shigeru hasn't noticed before, that Dodger is now wearing two necklaces - the one that he came in wearing, and a new one on a gold chain with a heart locket hanging from it. He also has a bruise on his rib that looks a day or so old, probably from yet another barfight.]

[ He does notice all of those things, actually, but he won't comment on them just yet. Instead he shakes his head. ]

It's not that I don't know. It's just...called something different in my world. I wasn't familiar with the term they used. But we do have hamburgers back home! Although they look a little different from these, which is also why I didn't really recognize them.

[ And then he might come a little closer his hand reaching out towards the bruise before he stops and frowns, giving Dodger his characteristic worried look. ]

You're hurt... [ again. He should be used to it but...honestly he never gets used to Dodger being hurt. Do you want him to heal it is the look on his face as he gives the other man a once over. ]

[Dodger is silent for a moment, just chewing on the burger and thinking over Shigeru's words, until the touch to his ribs brings him back. Right, he probably should have covered that up... but it's a little late now.]

I figure I should ask you a favor... [He hesitates.] You think if you, uh- if you made me a new eye, would it be able to see? 'Cause my old one couldn't, it stopped working a few years back. Cataracts or some shit.

[ Oh! Well that is not what he had expected Dodger to ask him. Shigeru will tilt his head a little, his attention drawn to the eye itself. He'll bring a gloved hand to his chin in thought before he smiles and nods. Dodger gets a thumbs up in reply. ]

I can definitely do that! It...might hurt though. I've regrown limbs for people before. It's not...an easy process for the patients, but eyes are small and easy to remake, so it shouldn't take too many sessions to do.

[ Ideally he'd like for Dodger to be asleep for most of it as well. ]

It would be best to...put you under for it. There's so many nerves in the eye itself that I wouldn't feel comfortable with you being awake for it.

Right... sorta like surgery, huh.

[But god, he hates the idea. Being unconscious and fully at the mercy of another person, that's what's always made him anxious about going to the doctor's. It takes him a bit of hesitation before he can remind himself that Shigeru has never done anything to hurt him... and he probably wouldn't be able to if he tried.]

How, uh- how many sessions do you figure it would take?

[As much as he flaunts the creepiness of his missing eye, he'd be a little creeped out himself looking in the mirror and seeing a half-built eye in the socket.]

[ He nods his head at that. ]

Probably around four or five. I can rebuild your entire eye the first time around. But it's remaking the cones and nerves for it that takes awhile.

[ He doesn't want Dodger to be seeing in black and white after all. ]

You'll be okay. I won't let anything happen to you. So don't worry. [ He gives the other a warm smile as he looks back at him. He can see the clear hesitation the other is having and he might have some more when he types up this next thing. ]

Do you think...you might not be able to drink or do anything before the procedure? I don't want it to adversely affect the anesthesia. Or maybe finding a magical derivative could work too.

you might be famous in a couple other worlds and hell, i got a few good references for you. but you still gotta showcase the product before it gets bought.

i'm looking for a very specific voice, and you're not gonna be able to hear an example. so it's going to have to take some damn good skill to get right.
