[Normally, Alec wouldn't broadcast video to whoever had their phone on, but he needs to ask as many people as possible about the friend he picked up while patrolling the night before. It takes him a few seconds for the camera to focus properly. When it does, Alec can be seen holding a very large tabby patterned ball of fluff.]
Did anyone lose a cat? I found him last night curled up in an alley. He looked like he'd been outside for a few days and is eating like he hasn't been fed regularly.
[He can't quite hide the disapproval in his tone. If someone did this to the poor cat intentionally, Alec is not going to be pleased.]
If he's yours, I'll return him. If not, my family would like to keep him.

Strangest things. Good to know regardless. Least I'll know what to tell 'em if they come to the hospital lookin' for some sort of cure. [Probably first thing he'll ask is what they did to piss someone else off. Namely this Magnus fellow. Then tell 'em to suck it up and go home to wait it out. Or beg forgiveness one.]
God. Another person like that? Beginnin' to think there are too many of those in the universe. You have my sympathies. [He loves Jim. That's an understatement. But he also knows it's damn hard to keep up with the man and keep him in one piece. He can completely sympathize over that.] Not likely, but possible. Be my luck he'd want one of each.

Would someone go t the hospital for that? [Maybe a Mundane would but it doesn't seem logical to him. What could a doctor do for someone who was transformed into a rat?]
And you have mine if yours is as crazy as Jace. Does yours get these great idea that usually ends up with you having to drag him out of some insane situation? [He sounds more resigned and affectionate tan angry.] I've never had a dog so I don't know how well the two would get along.

You'd be damn surprised at what people go to the hospital for. [Yeah... he's quite literally seen it all. But being turned into another animal would be new. Nice to know the longevity of the problem so he doesn't just put the person in quarantine or laugh them out. Well, he might laugh them out anyway.]
Oh God... 'great' ideas. Bunch of horse shit that will land us in a heap of trouble. He attracts trouble like a damn magnet. Sounds like they should be related. [He sounds about the same when thinking of Jim. He may throw a fit, but it's more out of over protectiveness than anything else.] It'll likely horrify you how alike they are.

But you wouldn't be able to do anything to fix a spell unless you have magic users working there.
That sounds like Jace. Everything's an awesome idea until we're surrounded by demons. [Just because that was their calling, that didn't mean that they had to rush into every demon nest Jace tracked down or that they needed to kill one of every type of demon in the Codex.] They can never meet or we're both doomed.

Well, doesn't mean people won't try. And honestly, I've run into so many weird cases in my life, I wouldn't bat an eye at someone changed into a rodent.
Demons? Can't say Jim has brought up a horde of demons. More like aliens or super genetically enhanced humans. [Snorting softly, he shook his head.] Though I'm sure he'd find a way to piss off demons too if he found any. But I agree.. they should not. I can't see that goin' all that well.
no subject
Do things like being turned into a rat happen in your world?
Aliens? [He uses his surprise over that to hide the instinctual jolt of fear over Jace. No one knows. He's not even sure if his family knows what was done to Jace. His parabatai is safe here. Safer than he'd ever be at home.] Keep him away from the demons. You need special weapons and training to deal with them.

I can't say I've seen it before. But I mean, xenobiology is pretty weird compared to typical human biology.
Yeah. E.T. and all that jazz. We made it into space. [He did the twirl in the air with one hand in a sarcastic 'big deal' motion before shaking his head.] I will do my damnedest to keep him away. From all trouble preferably.
no subject
Xenobiology is magic in your world?
[That doesn't sound quite right but he doesn't think that science has evolved enough in most realities to turn people into rats.]
E.T.? [Was that something Simon had told him about?] I talked to someone a couple weeks ago who said that traveling between planets was common, but we haven't managed it in my reality.
I try that with Jace, but it never works. He could get himself in trouble putting his boots on in the morning.

Not magic. But it can look like it. Almost everything can be explained in some way, shape or form. Just gotta keep an open mind.
[Part of him says this kid is a delicate mix of naive with too much experience. Just depended on what he was asking about, he s'posed. He just couldn't put his finger on it.]
It's hard to find on Terra now... but I thought everyone had seen E.T. Are you not from Earth? [He wasn't being judgmental. Just curious. Probably would make more sense if the teen didn't know anything about Earth.] You know... just occurred to me I didn't get your name. I'm Dr. Leonard McCoy. Sorry I forgot my manners.
[Scrunching his nose, he realized Jim was nearly the same.] Terrifying feeling, isn't it? Can't even trust 'em to put their shoes on without supervision.

Wouldn't magic be another way to explain things? [His tone is more curious than snark. He's interested in other worlds since his talk with Rey and knows that most beings think magic is parlor tricks or something that can easily be explained. Even if he's not sure how science would ever explain his angelic powers or Magnus' magic.]
I'm from Earth. I grew up in a very sheltered culture. We didn't interact outside of our kin until recently. I'm still trying to catch up.
I'm Alec Lightwood. It is. I've been dealing with it since we were twelve. I thought I'd get used to it but I haven't.

Possibly. Who am I to argue with a race that has something unusual about it. That would be like me saying a telepathic race is unnatural just cause telepathy isn't generally found in humans. I just like to learn the hows and whys for most things. Sometimes knowing is a matter of life and death if I ever have to treat someone. [Where he's not really worked with magic before, he wouldn't turn down the possibility of it existing. But even that would have mechanics behind it. Very rarely did something come from nothing. It didn't have to be 'science' entirely.]
Nothin' wrong with sheltered. Sure there are things people could do well enough without. And it's a pleasure. Mind if I call you Alec, then? You also have my sympathy... least I've not had to deal with it that long.
no subject
[Normally, Alec wouldn't think of the Clave's Laws about not telling Mundanes about Nephilim, but Leonard's right. If they were hurt or became sick, no one here except Magnus would know how to heal them. And if Magnus became sick. He almost visibly flinches at the memory.] How does... discussing those kind of differences work here?
We were sheltered for the wrong reasons. My kin think they're better than other beings and they try to control others to try to avoid what they fear.
I don't mind. You accept the insanity eventually. Even enjoy it sometimes.
no subject
[It just seems like maybe Alec didn't think much of his family's trade. But more like it was somethin' else botherin' him.] Discussing biological differences? I just try not to pry further than people are comfortable. But I am likely to ask questions that might not be liked at first. Why do you ask?
[Humming a soft thoughtful sound, he nods a little. That explains a little of Alec's outlook on his family.] That's regrettable. Prejudice does nothin' but mess everything up and stir up unnecessary trouble. I'm sorry to hear that.
That you do. And sometimes.. it is a bit enjoyable. [When they don't up and die on ya.]
no subject
Biological differences. Is there confidentiality? My family doesn't go to doctors. We've only been treated by them twice and one group was tinkering with our memories.
Some of our kin are getting better, but there's still prejudice. It's one of the reasons that I think we'll have a better life here. [Alec is probably one of the only beings in Quarantine that doesn't want to go back to his own world.] Is there less of that kind of hate where your'e from?
But we can't tell them we enjoy it or it'll make them think that they should keep acting that way.
no subject
Doctors all take an oath on confidentiality. [If anything, that surprises him. Far as he knew, all doctors did and always had. Alec's world couldn't be that different now could it?] And that right there... that's malpractice. Messin' with memories is just wrong. Morally wrong and ethically.
[That sounded awful to him. Any self respecting doctor would do no such thing.]
Prejudice can and does run deep. And sometimes gettin' away is a good thing. Where I'm from, pretty much anything is accepted. Pretty open minded and all. Earth's been through hell, no point makin' more of a mess now that we've rebuilt.
[A soft chuckle escaped at that thought.] Hell would freeze over 'fore I told 'im that for that very reason.
