Magnus Bane, owner of The Apothecary bar, is throwing a Halloween & Samhain Party and no one knows how to throw a party better than the High Warlock of Brooklyn. It's good other people are getting in the spirit of the season. Most people seem too worked up by the memory thing that's been happening.

I've heard about that Magnus guy, but I'm not sure if my presence would be appreciated.

I can't imagine why anyone would mind. It's going to be fun and this place needs a bit of fun. I see no harm in at least showing up, taking a spin around the bar.

When did dressing in costumes become popular? I thought that was only done in Europe, or within Scottish and Irish immigrant communities.

[It's not criticism but a genuine question since Billy's from 1879 and costuming didn't become popular in the US (outside of certain immigrant groups) until after his time. Although he has heard some of Halloween's history thanks to Goody, something about having pagan roots and being a time when the border between the spirit world and the world of the living became thin.]

[Based on what he can recall from memory having read several books, Jace easily gives his answer.]

There is an early reference in 1585, but more recently it's believed by Mundanes that the custom comes from old Celtic Festivals of Samhain and Calan Gaeaf. It was also believed the origin of wearing costumes was for scaring supernatural or folkloric beings. It didn't really become popular until the 1930's.

Definitely a few years before my time. Mundane's don't believe in monsters like they once did.

[Now Jace is curious if whatever brings them all here has any sort of limit. It seems to cross all boundaries of time and space.]

That's the second time you've mentioned "Mundanes." Is that what you call humans?

[At least from the way he talks it sounds like he's referring to humans.]

Mundanes are humans with no supernatural abilities. It's what we call them back home.

[ Jace recalls having to explain these things to Clary when they first met. The memory makes him wonder how she's doing back home. ]

You should come to the party and see the magic for yourself. Come as yourself.

[ There is a hint of teasing in that last comment. ]

[When Izzy flips her camera on there's a mixture of amusement and admonishment on her face] We have got to work on your delivery, Jace, the whole staring thing...not quite the way you tempt people to come have fun. At least from my experience, anyway.

[Izzy shakes her head, but there's a smile on her mouth. He is trying, so there is that, but still. She cannot help but tease him.] But I'm sure Magnus appreciates the press either way.

It's all in the eyes, Izzy. Especially my eyes. People look into my eyes and are easily convinced to do whatever I ask of them. It's my secret power.

[He smiles and looks away for a moment.]

I wanted to do something for him. He's had to put up with a lot from me.

If you want to scare people by giving them crazy intense eyes, by all means. [She teases with raised brows, a barely held back smile, and a bit of a gesture.] Don't forget, you're not a vampire. You can't will anybody to do what you want, hm?

[She winks, enjoying teasing Jace because she only gets the opportunity every so often.] It is nice, though, and I'm sure he'll appreciate it. HE's family now, though, so...putting up with you is part of the deal.
