[ Caleb is outside! On a bench, in the afternoon light, holding his phone selfie-style to take this video, which means it's a little off center but there you have it. ]

Hey everyone.

Happy Thanksgiving if you celebrate.

I was wondering if people would be willing to talk to me about magic. If it even exists where you come from - if it doesn't or it's just a myth that's cool too, we can still chat - how it works, stuff like that. I got here at the beginning of the month and I've started working at Gramarye Magic Reseach so I guess you could say I'm curious? Magic seems to have different rules in different places for different people.

[ Okay, that was a lot to get out all at once. Caleb takes a breath and smiles. (It's not a bad smile.) ]

Even if you don't know the rules or you just want to lament about a lack of fried turkey or something, we could talk about that too!

[ He gives a little wave to the camera and shuts it off, but there's an addendum in text added to the video post in about 3 minutes: ]

PS - if Chase Collins gets himself arrested or on someone's shit list, can somebody let me know? Thanks.

[ At this point in his stay in the Quarantine, he's used to getting strange looks, so he pays it little mind. ]

A bit of both, truth be told. There exists a force called aether where I am from, and it is the source of all magic and life. Most have the innate ability to manipulate aether to some degree, the rest comes down to training.

[He's just going to squint-]

I guess.

[Thankfully, he's done this whole multiverse thing before so he has a whole new level of patience for the comparison than he would have fresh from his own world. He wouldn't have bothered initiating, otherwise.]

It's the transmutation of matter.

[Just going to file this under 'another one that considers alchemy magic' got it.]

[ Surprisingly, the guy who picked the username none is kind of difficult like that... ]

How would you expect it to work?

My home is called Hydaelyn. Specifically, I am from the country of Ala Mhigo, but there exists magic nearly everywhere.

My powers are...sort of like magic, I guess? That's what I've been telling people at least. But mine come from a curse that an evil god passed on to my ancestors for them not siding with him during a great war, and ever since then it's been in my family's linage.

[ Yep that sure sounds like a good magic to have /sweats ]

What sort of magic do you have?

Would it?

If there is one thing I have learned of mortals, it is that they always need a scapegoat to get by.

I work at Gramarye too! What job title do you hold?

Re: magic I'm an abjuration specialist so I'm happy to answer any questions that you have. I've also been working on gathering relative information about the different kinds of magic of the people that live here for a few months now, and I don't mind sharing my findings if you want to come have a read-through of my notes some time.

Oh, and what's Thanksgiving?

Tell me about this 'Thanksgiving.'

( A beat. )

Magic is more often foul than not in my experience.

( Hypocritically, she has no problem with whatever brand of it she might possess, to coax life from stone. )

Magic, huh? Depends on the type, I guess. There's godly powers that demigods get from their parents and then magic-magic, which is manipulating the Mist. Er, the magical fog that distorts what mortals see, usually.

[ a pause as he brushes some of his long, grecian curls out of his eyes. ]

I'm a demigod, so my powers are a fraction of my father's. Most people consider it in line with necromancy.

It looks like my brother's already spoken up about alchemy. He's the genius, so I'll let him explain more. I'm curious about what this fried turkey. Is it something people often do?

A common sentiment among humans.

[ Certainly all mortals seem to possess it. Loki doesn't see the need. ]

I am aware.

[ Steve is much like that, after all. ]

Who knows what the future brings.
dothelokimotion: (This is the fear that looms)

[ Loki clicks his tongue, bemused. ]

Why the interest in magic?
