Hey everyone.

Happy Thanksgiving if you celebrate.

I was wondering if people would be willing to talk to me about magic. If it even exists where you come from - if it doesn't or it's just a myth that's cool too, we can still chat - how it works, stuff like that. I got here at the beginning of the month and I've started working at Gramarye Magic Reseach so I guess you could say I'm curious? Magic seems to have different rules in different places for different people.

Even if you don't know the rules or you just want to lament about a lack of fried turkey or something, we could talk about that too!

Magic doesn't exist where I'm from. Or really, what people think might be magic is really aliens and science and things. But I've met people here who can use magic, and I've been thinking about trying to learn some.

[ She knows in the world of Harry Potter only certain people could do magic, but it doesn't seem to work that way for Taako and Lup and Lucretia. ]

My world doesn't have magic, but we do have a form of science called alchemy. A lot of people from different worlds consider it to be magic, not sure if that really counts for what you're going for, though.

Ok, that's interesting.

Back home alchemy is like...a subset of magic? One with scientific method but it involved transmutation and things like that which aren't possible through standard academic sciences.

Is that similar to alchemy, for you?

My powers are...sort of like magic, I guess? That's what I've been telling people at least. But mine come from a curse that an evil god passed on to my ancestors for them not siding with him during a great war, and ever since then it's been in my family's linage.

What sort of magic do you have?

Mine isn't considered a curse, exactly, but there is a hefty cost for overuse; it pretty much ages you to a decrepit state and is highly addictive to boot.

Re: magic I'm an abjuration specialist so I'm happy to answer any questions that you have. I've also been working on gathering relative information about the different kinds of magic of the people that live here for a few months now, and I don't mind sharing my findings if you want to come have a read-through of my notes some time.

It's a holiday, specific to parts of North America, on Earth. It's kind of explained as a celebration of friendships and families but the real-life historical adjacent is the beginning of a genocide, unfortunately.

Thanksgiving, in the country I'm from, falls on the 3rd Thursday (which is the 4th weekday of the 7 day week) of the 11th month of the 12 month year, during the changing of the seasons from fall to winter.

It is currently explained culturally and commercially as a celebration of family and friends in the form of traditional family gatherings, or even just gatherings of friends, surrounding specific foods like turkey, prepared any number of ways.

Historically it marks the beginning of an antagonistic and eventually genocidal relationship between colonists and the native populations of the continent.

Magic, huh? Depends on the type, I guess. There's godly powers that demigods get from their parents and then magic-magic, which is manipulating the Mist. Er, the magical fog that distorts what mortals see, usually.

I'm a demigod, so my powers are a fraction of my father's. Most people consider it in line with necromancy.

I'm not, like, super knowledgable about what it takes to run a Thanksgiving dinner but. A few people have set their houses on fire using a deep fryer to cook a turkey. The bird is pretty dry on it's own, I guess if you fry it correctly it retains moisture or something?

Might be worth a try.
