[ Caleb is outside! On a bench, in the afternoon light, holding his phone selfie-style to take this video, which means it's a little off center but there you have it. ]
Hey everyone.
Happy Thanksgiving if you celebrate.
I was wondering if people would be willing to talk to me about magic. If it even exists where you come from - if it doesn't or it's just a myth that's cool too, we can still chat - how it works, stuff like that. I got here at the beginning of the month and I've started working at Gramarye Magic Reseach so I guess you could say I'm curious? Magic seems to have different rules in different places for different people.
[ Okay, that was a lot to get out all at once. Caleb takes a breath and smiles. (It's not a bad smile.) ]
Even if you don't know the rules or you just want to lament about a lack of fried turkey or something, we could talk about that too!
[ He gives a little wave to the camera and shuts it off, but there's an addendum in text added to the video post in about 3 minutes: ]
PS - if Chase Collins gets himself arrested or on someone's shit list, can somebody let me know? Thanks.

[ She knows in the world of Harry Potter only certain people could do magic, but it doesn't seem to work that way for Taako and Lup and Lucretia. ]

[ Don't mind him he's just taking notes. ]
And some people can teach magic, here?

Gramarye has extensive resources on magic. I made sure of it. As for myths, most humans consider me one.

[ Trickster, huh? Loki did say something about there being more than one of him. ]
Which myth, if you don't mind my asking?

But it definitely has different rules for different people.

My world doesn't have magic, but we do have a form of science called alchemy. A lot of people from different worlds consider it to be magic, not sure if that really counts for what you're going for, though.

Back home alchemy is like...a subset of magic? One with scientific method but it involved transmutation and things like that which aren't possible through standard academic sciences.
Is that similar to alchemy, for you?

That which is powered by the supernatural as opposed to the 'natural' world accessible to all.

[ Yep that sure sounds like a good magic to have /sweats ]
What sort of magic do you have?
text;
Mine isn't considered a curse, exactly, but there is a hefty cost for overuse; it pretty much ages you to a decrepit state and is highly addictive to boot.

Re: magic I'm an abjuration specialist so I'm happy to answer any questions that you have. I've also been working on gathering relative information about the different kinds of magic of the people that live here for a few months now, and I don't mind sharing my findings if you want to come have a read-through of my notes some time.
Oh, and what's Thanksgiving?
text;
[ He probably should. ]
Sorry, I don't know what exactly an abjuration specialist is, do you mind explaining it? Magic is very hidden, back home.
I'd really like to see your notes, yeah, if you don't mind! I can add what I know of the magic I'm familiar with.
It's a holiday, specific to parts of North America, on Earth. It's kind of explained as a celebration of friendships and families but the real-life historical adjacent is the beginning of a genocide, unfortunately.

( A beat. )
Magic is more often foul than not in my experience.
( Hypocritically, she has no problem with whatever brand of it she might possess, to coax life from stone. )
text;
It is currently explained culturally and commercially as a celebration of family and friends in the form of traditional family gatherings, or even just gatherings of friends, surrounding specific foods like turkey, prepared any number of ways.
Historically it marks the beginning of an antagonistic and eventually genocidal relationship between colonists and the native populations of the continent.
[ Hope that answers your question, Dany. ]
Is that because there's more destructive magic than not or because it is a power that is used to harm others?

I'm a demigod, so my powers are a fraction of my father's. Most people consider it in line with necromancy.
