I'll keep this short... (She tries to sound in-charge. Tough. But it all comes out...shy.) My name is Lightning and I'm a new member of the Perimeter Guard. I have combat experience. (A lot of it.) So if you're in a tight spot, just give me a call.

(There. Is that...a decent intro? It's certainly dry. She shifts and crosses her arms over her chest.)

I mean it. I know that might seem like a strange promise from someone who doesn't know you, but that doesn't matter to me. I will protect you. I'm...just built that way now.

(After seeing one world end... After harvesting souls... Yeah. She can't say no to anyone in trouble.)

Okay, first, cool name.

But more importantly is there anything you'd like to do for fun? Like, you can't spend all your time protecting people.

(Gee she would have no experience with teenagers like that.)

I didn't know fun was an option? When you don't know anyone and you're put on guard, it's hard to relax.

There are a lot of people on the perimeter guard, you don't need to be on the job all the time.

And it's definitely good to get to know folks off duty, when things are less... dire and weird.

I wouldn't wanna live here if fun wasn't an option.

That depends entirely on what we're guarding against, doesn't it? But I...understand...your point.

Well, I guess... but if you were constantly guarding you'd die of exhaustion before anything outside the wall got into things. You need more than sleep and food to not just lose it.

Um, the acid rain thing was really bad. But that wasn't really a guard issue. So I guess the plants attacking the wall was bad? I'm not a guard, so you'd have better luck asking them for stories.

That is the case for...most people. I was different...once. (Not anymore. She needs breaks. She needs food. She needs sleep.)

I'll do that. Thank you, Lola. (She moves just enough to show that she is in pedestrian clothes. They are more comfortable - and they are what she arrived wearing.)

Anyone figure out what caused the rain?

I think it was a freak accident of events, but I'm not sure. There are a bunch of science and magic geniuses at the Guard that would know better than me.

So... you still haven't answered what you like to do for fun.

Geniuses, huh? Is that what they call themselves? (She has a problem with prideful people.) It sounds like all they have are theories. Theories don't keep you from getting burned when it rains.

(She falls quiet, considering.)

I like to read. I don't mind going out if it's not too loud. I guess...I don't know? I haven't really had fun in a long time.

I dunno, someone came up with countermeasures against the rain while it was happening. And someone had to come up with a plan to disperse the clouds and end it. So someone can work in real world stuff. I just know they're like super smart.

*Which isn't Lola's bag.*

That... is really sad. Not having fun in a long time.

But at least given the sorta place this is there gotta be lots of books you've never heard of that you can read! And with things going on in the abandoned city again soon there should be quiet places other than libraries and some of the fancier restaurants.

Good on them. I'm glad we have researchers on hand. (She isn't really one to sit still and study. Those that can should and if they enjoy it, that's all the better for everyone.)

I had other things on my mind. (Like trying to save her sister, fighting gods, allying gods and watching the world end. Or...her world end anyway.)

I'll strain my eyes with all the books. (But she won't be complaining!) What do you like to do for fun? Somehow I don't think quiet places and libraries suit you.

That's usually how it works, something seems more important and you kinda forget yourself a little while.

I like cooking, trying new foods, and usually I go dancing if I want to really cut loose.

What happened was more important.

Dancing, huh? Is there a place to dance? A club?

I mean, I'm not a good sample size. But even if what's going on is more important, you can find five minutes to just be you, right? You're still important, even if everything else is too.

A couple dozen, there are four I really like. But they just suit the kind of dancing I like. The stuff with a lot of energy and fun to it.

I...forgot myself...for a long time. All I knew was what I had to do.

(She smiles at the advice nonetheless. Lola isn't wrong.)

I know better now. I know I need to look after myself; I'm not just meant to serve or protect.

(While this might be outside of her comfort zone -)

When are you free?

Good! Totally better to take some time for yourself.

Um... Classes are kinda shut down due to the winter, so I got most afternoons free. I've taken on mostly morning and the occasional dinner shift. Why?

I'm trying to do that now - or I was. Now I'm back to having duties. But I'll find some kind of balance.

I thought we could try dancing or going to the clubs you mentioned.

Oh- Oh! Totally, just like tell me what night's good for you and I'll totally make it work for me.

I'm just a waitress, and people really like me so it gets easier to just shift around my schedule.

*Lola hasn't had lots of chances to girlfriend it up lately so she is totally down.*

I'm off most evenings. How about this weekend? (Her schedule is pretty open beyond patrolling and training. Out of habit, she likes having evenings free ~~because that was when she would go home to Serah~~.)

[He smiles easily, and his voice is bright enough to make up for her semi-shyness. It's a little strange to talk over this thing like this. He's done video conferencing before, but it's always been professional.

...Then again, most of what he's done in his life has been professional, not personal. That's a whole new thing to get used to.]

If you ever need help -- I don't know if you will, but if a job's too big for one person or you just need to call in someone -- I used to be part of a protection service, so I'm happy to assist as well.

How are you doing, Yukihiko? (She'll forgo, for the moment, that she is new too and therefore not in any position to be of help. If all he needs is a little friendliness, that is easy enough to provide.)

I know my way around...guarding. I wouldn't want someone to not call for help just because they didn't know anyone.

I've known two worlds. The first one required me to fight a lot. The second doesn't.

Why the name Lightning? Do you have electric based powers?

I chose Lightning when I was...much younger. (In her actual twenties instead of her five hundred and twenties.) It strikes quickly; it doesn't protect - it only destroys. That was how I felt about myself back then.

I was military trained and good at my job, but I didn't have any powers when I decided on the name.

It's...comfortable. I am accustomed to hearing it more than...my real name.

Comfortable but not fitting. Perhaps a change is in order with a new beginning and all.

I...did make a change. I was called by my real name...before I came here. But it feels like I'm back where I was before. Maybe I need to be Lightning again.

(Just not in the sense that she considers herself destructive.)

No casualties that I have been aware of. You'll find many people here are quite capable, even if they are not a member of the guard themselves. That said, the jungle is still rife with danger. Carnivorous beasts, carnivorous plants. At least one cult.

It is not for the faint of heart, to be sure.

I can handle myself. I haven't met a monster or god yet that scared me stiff. (Then again, before, she hadn't felt much of anything. Ever. She needs time to adapt to her emotions again.) Is there a point to entering the jungle? Is it for supplies? Food?

I could lend you a hand if you are interested. I work as an Orientation Support at the Perimeter guard, but the battle is not unknown to me.

I would appreciate the help. What should I know first? Where am I needed most?
