I'm curious how many people believe in fate here.
If you do, do you believe fates can be changed?
If you don't, what do you believe in?

Whenever I hear about fate, it usually involves only a select few people. Like figures from legend. I don't know that fate intervenes for everyone.

Perhaps it is that some fates are merely smaller but no less important than others.

You raise a good point. There's no reason that a fate should be momentous. It may be that those are the only kind recorded.

It is true, though, I think it could be that the big ones are only made possible by the many small ones that line the path.

Like stepping stones along the way.
It's a weighty question - what brought it to mind for you?

Exactly.
I suppose it's a thought that comes to my mind often for years. I suppose I often find myself searching for understanding of why things have happened and to what end they are for.

Is there no other purpose that you can see?

I hope it is a comfort, to think on what the reasons may be. I find it can be sad, though no less meaningful, to wonder at the purpose of it all.
