I've been doing a lot of thinking. Mostly about the future. So we're stuck here for five years, right? How many people are planning on staying after that? If so, why?

I mean... [ another bite of fries and he swallows this time before continuing. ] What do people miss the most about their original homes and is it enough to want to go back? If there was one thing about this place that could make you stay, what would it be?

I dunno. Anyway- Loki, I need to make sure I have Wednesday night off. And Jason, I need some advice. Also, Ed, I have a few questions about your alchemy.

I won't stay after the five years is up, but there's less responsibility here. Back home, my position kept me where everybody could see me, and it was a pain. I don't have that here.

Yeah, it's nice not being looked at so much even before you do anything.

I'm going to inherit the throne after my dad dies. I'm a prince.

i mean, technically i'm a king
and an ambassador
but i don't think about it much.

i've never had to deal with people looking at me
mostly they ignore me.

How can you be a king and an ambassador and not think on it? That's a lot of work. And how do people ignore you? What kind of king are you? Being prince was enough to make people hang on me asking me about royal family business.

than a position.
one i took by force
i'm the king of ghosts because i control them
and i'm ambassador for pluto
because he's the roman form of my father.
i mean, i get some recognition for being a demigod
but when you're around a lot of other demigods
it doesn't seem all that special anymore.

Being sent by your father is pretty common when you're a prince. It's a title that goes from father to son.

You can control ghosts? You see people after they die? Doesn't that mean you don't ever have to really lose anybody?

i should clarify something.
i'm a demigod.
my father is a god, not a king.
and because he's a god, i'm not necessarily his heir
if you get what i mean.
i'll die before he ever looks old
but when i do, i'll have more power in his kingdom.

and it's because of who my father is that i can control ghosts
but people still die.
they don't all come back as ghosts. only some do.
i still lose people.

(That was a bad thing to say. Of course, he did. Perhaps Noctis doesn't know the rules well enough, perhaps he likes to continue the habit of saying the wrong thing.

Apologizing would possibly correct the misguided course, but he doesn't excel in that area, either. Instead, he won't insinuate the idea again.)

What's the difference between the people who do and the people who don't?

yeah, it was. my whole life has been pretty weird.

since arriving, i've wanted to leave
but i've met someone that might make it worth staying

five years can be both a long and short time
if i'm still with him by then, who knows?

Everybody has a place in the world. Maybe you just haven't found it yet, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. It sounds like your dad cares about you.

but it's not like i can be around him a lot
he lives in the underworld. with dead people.
i'm still alive, so i need to stay topside.
