riverview review: issue 2

the riverview review

Welcome to the first edition of the bi-weekly IC events blog. Everything covered in this post is available in a well-written blog post format on the Riverview Quarantine homepage. Feel free to have your characters respond to this entry as if they are using a comments section on any internet article.

flower festival: mid-festival check-in

● The Government of Riverview would like to thank local residents and new arrivals for all their help in making the Flower Festival such a success this year. The articles are mostly covering some of the more popular dances, a spotlight on some the various cultures that have been represented through music and dance, and a big-font invitation to the Blossom Picnic on April 10th.

● There are also several advertisements for pre-packaged picnic foods, various raves at clubs, and for food stands and special dance presentations and lessons at the Blossom Picnic. Any player character who has a food or dance mingle in their top-level at the festival, or wants to make one, can feel free to post an ad in the comments.

monsters in the underground

There are a couple of follow-up articles regarding the recent emergency in the underground that was causing the blackouts and brownouts.

● There is a long celebratory article detailing the success of the mission to clear the tunnels, handing out thanks to some of the major players (feel free to assume your character was mentioned if they heavily participated). This article also has mini bios of the Perimeter Guard Wall Research & Development Team (both player characters and NPCs), and describes their plan and a rough idea of the state of the tunnels now - mostly empty and more in-depth repairs are being carried out. It also states that the Perimeter Guard may be putting out requests for additional assistance from the population if need be, and to keep an eye out.

● There is a much shorter but more emphatic and sensational article claiming that the whole emergency was a Government cover-up of some kind of catastrophic failure in the electrical grid, and that some kind of awful disaster is likely impending. There is a lot of hyperbolic doom, gloom, and finger pointing in this article.

things to do

● There is an advertisement for a Blood and Tissue Drive at the Riverview Hospital. Residents are offered small cash incentives to donate blood or tissue for blood transfusions, or samples for cloned organ replacements, or to provide cloned foodstuffs for people around the city who need blood or flesh to live on.

● There is a short article about how polyamorous marriages have finally been legalized in Riverview Quarantine after a two-year battle through the court system. Besides the previously allowed two-person marriages between people of any gender and/or sex, marriages may now occur between three or more people with consent of all parties involved. All types of marriages are allowed to and encouraged to adopt.

● There is a giant, colorful ad sponsored by various businesses in the city offering a large reward for anyone who is willing to bring back a fresh harvest of Lababerries after the success of Sampremi emptied stocks around the city.

weather forecast

April 9th - April 15th: The second week of the Flower Festival will be sunny, bright, and warm, with intermittent sunshowers starting on Thursday. Particularly beautiful sunrises and sunsets are expected on Wednesday and Thursday.
April 16th - April 22nd: Sunshowers will turn into cloudy rainshowers over the weekend that will persist throughout the week. The weather will be warm, though, so expect some mugginess coming in from the jungle.

Ad for Buttercup Farms Flora and Fauna Exhibit

Buttercup Farm proudly presents an exhibit of its more exotic creatures and plants. The exhibit will run throughout the festival so come one come all to the petting zoo! Featuring delightful rabbits and similar creatures and a breathtaking display of flowers.

Our flora and fauna are second to none! We kindly invite you to come and enjoy our presentation. Please remember us when you go shopping. Visit and we promise that the rabbits and whatever the rest are will not be fed to the wolves after the exhibit is over. We promise that we did not make this entire thing up at the last minute or make our new resident farmhand do all the work for it. We also promise that we are great employers who will not make our farmhand shovel any more manure as retaliation for a poor ad or whatever. Great to have that in writing where everyone can see. As for the details, the exhibit will be run during the daylight hours, so our animals can get their beauty sleep. Each morning they will be ready to delight you as you enjoy the smell of flowers.

Remember, the next time you need your groceries, butter up with Buttercup!
