[The video opens up with Ivar sitting on the edge of his bed, phone recording in one hand, and a knife being fiddled around with in the other. It's clear he's got something on his mind.]

So it turns out if you properly motivate people, they can get that portal fixed up to get you back home.

[It's best not to ask what motivation that was, but Ivar being Ivar, most everyone watching can probably figure it out.]

I'm going back home for a while to take care of some unfinished business. I left in the middle of a war and I need to see that through before I come back. [He pauses.] And don't bother trying to talk me out of this, I've already made up my mind. I'll see you all in two weeks.

[He waves goodbye with the knife and then cuts the video. Looks like the Quarantine has a reprieve from the crazy Viking for the next fourteen days. But he'll be back. Ivar's far too tough to do something as basic as dying back in his home world.]

[He hopes. Really, there's no way of knowing if he'll survive. But Ivar feels his fate hasn't yet been played out.]

[ that's just ominous sounding, but nico smirks. ]

Oh, I don't need your permission, remember? Just stay as safe as a viking possibly can. By the way, have you got anyone to babysit?

[Ack. He was afraid he might get someone responding to this he's still on the outs with. Now he has to deal with feelings. Not his specialty. There's several things he thinks of saying, but he finally settles for just a simple message.]

Safe and battles don't really go together, but I'll do my best. My father and uncle will be watching Winter while I'm gone.

[...There's no way leaving Ragnar and Thor in charge of a baby will end badly, right?]

Your father and uncle? Oh, that's right... I heard about him showing up. And your uncle is... [ scratches the back of his neck, thinking. ] Thor, right? Are you sure they'll be safe with her?

[ ...well, she wasn’t expecting that. More feelings to deal with that...confuse her.

He confuses her. ]

[ Still upset but...he deserved to know that. ]

[It's her first question before anything else... but the concern is clear on her face, not just for her daughter but for Ivar's safety. He's going back to a war... she's now seen what wars can do to men, even if she's sure Ivar will survive. And even if he didn't, he would still return.]

[He hopes she'll be willing to. He doesn't want her to think he doesn't want to be friends anymore.]

My father and uncle will be watching over her, so she'll be at my father's house.

[It's probably a slap in the face that he didn't go to her first thing to watch over their daughter, but Ivar's trust in Letha is still being rebuilt. But Letha shouldn't worry. There's no way he'll die. Ivar's far too stubborn for that.]

[Wars always take a little bit of luck to win.]

A war in England with what they were calling the Great Heathen Army. We'd blood-eagled King Aelle and were going after King Ecbert next.

[Her lips immediately purse.]

You asked them and not me? [She pauses.] ...And since when was your uncle here? How much of your family is coming through that portal?

[There's something in her tone, like a storm brewing... he's about five seconds away from the nagging of a lifetime.]

Feel free to check in on her once in a while. It'll give me some peace of mind.

Will do. After all, her powers don't affect me as much.

Yes. I don't trust you that much yet.

[To put it bluntly. There was still that fear she'd dump Winter in the woods if she cried too much around her mother.]

My uncle Thor? He and Loki have been here for months.

[As if he controls who comes through that portal. Ivar knows that tone, which makes him glad they're doing this over video. He can just turn her off if she gets to be too much.]

Well. You never mentioned you were their nephew.

[Which she says without the usual spark of interest in his culture; with her new perspective on Vikings, it just seems pompous to think of Ragnar and Loki on the same level.]

You expect me to trust Thor and your father with Winter? Why not Loki? At least we both know him, I've barely spoken to Thor or Ragnar. And for that matter, you could have left him with Lola and Nico. And Marco, or did you think that might upset me more?

[She huffs, shaking her head.]

You're being childish, I know you are. You just want to show how much better you like the other people in your life, but you can't just give my daughter away for other people to take care of without asking me. I know this isn't how things worked in Kattegat, but I'm her blood and I still have say over her. She should be with me, in her own bedroom at home.

[She's not angry, not exactly. It's not the blind, manic rage she goes into when she's pushed too far and starts making up reasons to be angry or throwing out ridiculous logic; this time her tone is sharp like a disappointed parent speaking to their child. She is older than him now, after all, she believes she has the right.]

I wish you well in your war efforts. But I hardly doubt I need to say such things.

[ Still Aeacinos will keep him in mind. He's sort of warmed up to the Viking folk, Ivar and Ragnar in particular. So he doesn't feel the need to really hold back with his feelings. ]

Let us hope we cross paths in two weeks, hm? And perhaps a celebratory drink party will be in order as well.

[Ivar generally saves the 'My grandfather is Odin' card only for moments when he wants to brag.]

I wouldn't trust Loki with caring for a cat, let alone a human being. [He cares for Loki as he does for all his family, but he's not the epitome of responsibility.] My father raised six children-- [Even though at the point he comes from, he only has two.] --and I already know Thor is good with Winter. If you don't know them all that well, time to fix that.

[He sounds annoyed now at her reprimanding as if he doesn't have a say in Winter's life as her father. Letha hasn't yet proved herself to him. Then again, will she ever be able to rise to his ridiculously high standards?]

I didn't just 'give her away.' And as for liking people better, think what you want. You always do. I trust my family to watch over her, which is more than I can say about what I feel for you.

Let me make one thing perfectly clear, Ivar Ragnarsson - you are her father only because I trusted you and gave you that position. Because you were replacing her real father in his absence. You do not have more claim to her than me, and the only reason she's still with you is because I have no desire to get myself killed trying to take her back by force.

I know you have no conscience, but somewhere in there you must understand how important blood is. My daughter is my kin, not yours. She's a Regis noblewoman, not a Viking, and you can't change that. And no matter how little you trust me, as long as my daughter is with you, I will always be a part of your life.

[Her brow twitches.]

And beside that, you've never given me a chance to prove myself. Wouldn't this vacation of yours be the right opportunity, or do you really think I'm mad enough to try and kill her while you're away?
