[The feed shows Elizabeth in the dining room of her apartment. She's tried to make the place as hospitable as possible with the several bits of framed artwork or decorative pieces, but the furniture is still the same basic design as when she arrived.

Furniture aside, she looks almost torn, certainly embarrassed by what she was about to say.] Hello, my name is Elizabeth Bennet.[She really hoped she was using this properly and not looking more like a fool than she already felt.] Is there anyone willing to teach skills in cookery? Back in my own world, I do have a basic understanding of what goes on in the kitchen, but these appliances are unknown to me. For the time being, I have been going 'out' to eat, but it is becoming silly that I have these things and no the understanding of how to use them properly.

[The last thing she wished to do was burn down the building because she had accidentally set something too high on the heat.]

I can teach you how to cook, if you'd like! [ Shigeru does it a lot specifically because he doesn't like going out to eat much. ]

Or at least teach you about how to use these appliances. It's not so hard once you get the hang of it.

Either one would be appreciated. [Atleast if she knew how to use the stove, it would be something of a start, and she would be less of a liability.] They do have books on cooking after all.

[They had books in her era as well, though they were hardly something she took more than a passing glance at.]

[ That's true. There are quite a lot of cook books in the library and in stores in the city. But he supposed there weren't too many that taught how to use appliances like stoves and microwaves. ]

Then we can start with how to use the appliances! That's a bit more difficult than cooking. [ Especially if she has no idea what they even are. ]

Would you...like to meet somewhere? [ His house is a choice but he's...not so good with strangers coming into his house and then there's the touching aspect. ]

[The question almost caught her off guard. Of course, they would have to meet somewhere.] We should meet at my quarters. Floor three, in the communal housing. To learn to use the appliances would be a great help.

If I can give you some advice, Miss Bennet: don't ever put anything metal in the microwave and don't leave anything flammable on top of the stove.

It would be nice to know what the 'microwave' does. Would the metal melt or catch fire? [She tries to keep civil and not grumble, but it's difficult when it seems all others are aware of how these devices work.]

It heats and cooks food by exposing it to electromagnetic radiation. Basically, it heats food very quickly. And yes, fire would certainly be involved. Metal is very conductive to electricity, so having it inside a microwave would be like holding up a metal rod during a lightning storm. Only on a smaller scale, of course.

[She had read of the American Benjamin Franklin and his experiments with electricity, so she knew of how metal reacted to the element.] Nothing with metal, understood.

I have invited someone over to show me how it works, but to know the dangers prior are appreciated.

Pretty much everything. Electricity is not for domestic use in my time, and the only way to keep stoves warm is to keep it fed with wood or coal.

Pretty much everything in modern times is labeled and comes with instructions. You can always start with a few easy things to get the hang of the appliance. Like... wash a few plates or towels. Cook spaghetti.

It's easy. So long as you can work the microwave, you can make some pretty basic shit.

Madam [Of course, she knows the woman from training, knows her name, but even so, the form of address is both polite and irritable.] You are assuming I come from a time that has harnessed electricity for domestic use, and has the means of conducting radiation for cooking. I can assure you that neither is the case.

Wasn't assuming -- it seemed like someone else was giving you info on that part. Just didn't want to have to repeat shit you already know.

[She noted the woman's reaction and smirked. Of course, such a form of address would cause her to respond in that manner, but it was what she was hoping for.] You are being generous with the term. It is true, someone agreed to teach me, but this is...very much a learning curve, as they say.

I confess I have never really shown a preference. [The foods here were so varied, more so than what was available back home.] I suppose I have a fondness for chinese food, but most of what is served here is really sweet compared to what I had while traveling.
