[Today's post is school-related, for the most part. But instead of being terrible news like it usually is, Laura's been coaxed by Linda the Caseworker to reveal the fruits of their labor (or really, Linda picking up a lot of assignments and making sure Laura does them when she's not at school...). Laura carefully pins a piece of paper to the fridge of Communal Floor 10 with a magnet, which the camera will point to in just a moment—

SURPRISE BITCH]

[After a moment:]

Linda said I should tell people. So I have told people.

I did — well on my grades this quarter.

[She didn't particularly see the big deal; it's not that hard to do the work assignments when your caseworker keeps bringing all the stuff to you... and the tests are much easier when you've got a good eye and memory. Another beat, and this she seems more uncertain and perhaps even sheepish about, in her own way:]

I also wanted to tell any of the other kids here... if you want somewhere to hang out, I have a — new place, just for kids only. Let me know if you would like to come in, and I'll give you directions, or take you there. We have 'video-games' there, and I like them a lot. Especially Pac-Man. And comic books, and candy, and soda... Things like that. It could be... fun.

[OOC: There might be a log later this month for the kid hang-out! If you want to hit that later just let her know you're interested in hanging out there, and you'll be good to go. If you have anything you have in mind that doesn't fit the bill here, just hit me up at simpledog at plurk! Also, feel free to run into her on floor 10 of the community building. ♥]

By 1930 the E was gone from most college grading scales. The universities decided that F stood for Failure and E stood for Excellent.

So they changed E to F.

Yeah. It makes me wonder who first made up the rules and what on earth they were thinking.

Human's over thing and sometimes don't make sense because of it.

[Freya finds that they're too far removed from their instincts.]

I also think there are some rules for rules. Like in English. You know the saying - 'i' before 'e' unless after 'c' - well there is more to it - or when sounded as 'a' as in neighbor and weigh - And there is even more to that....

Unless the 'c' is part of a 'sh' sound as in 'glacier'
Or it appears in comparatives and superlatives like 'fancier'
And also except when the vowels are sounded as 'e' as in 'seize'
Or 'i' as in 'height'
Or also in '-ing' inflections ending in '-e' as in 'cueing'
Or in compound words as in 'albeit'
Or occasionally in technical words with strong etymological links to their parent languages as in 'cuneiform'
Or in other numerous and random exceptions such as 'science', 'forfeit', and 'weird'.

It also doesn't all rhythm and I have no idea how we came up with a language with so many exceptions. Pretty much any other language is less complicated than English. I'm partial to French myself.

Sorry for the ramble, I like languages.

What languages do you know? French and English are my two main ones.

And No, not anymore. I got an unofficial degree in Mechanical Engineer though.

Nice and exclusively.

I can do other things but I mostly focus on making things work.

I have spoken to him about robots.
He cleans up and composts trash.

I'm kind of against fighting.
Everyone thinks about fighting but what about a dancing robot? That'd be cool right? Maybe the world can be saved by dance battles.

Which I realize sounds stupid but you know, maybe, one day.

You know, you dance and the best dancer wins.

Dance battles.

No death, just dancing and probably feeling tired afterwards.

It's pretty silly.
