[Today's post is school-related, for the most part. But instead of being terrible news like it usually is, Laura's been coaxed by Linda the Caseworker to reveal the fruits of their labor (or really, Linda picking up a lot of assignments and making sure Laura does them when she's not at school...). Laura carefully pins a piece of paper to the fridge of Communal Floor 10 with a magnet, which the camera will point to in just a moment—

SURPRISE BITCH]

[After a moment:]

Linda said I should tell people. So I have told people. 

I did — well on my grades this quarter. 

[She didn't particularly see the big deal; it's not that hard to do the work assignments when your caseworker keeps bringing all the stuff to you... and the tests are much easier when you've got a good eye and memory. Another beat, and this she seems more uncertain and perhaps even sheepish about, in her own way:]

I also wanted to tell any of the other kids here... if you want somewhere to hang out, I have a — new place, just for kids only. Let me know if you would like to come in, and I'll give you directions, or take you there. We have 'video-games' there, and I like them a lot. Especially Pac-Man. And comic books, and candy, and soda... Things like that. It could be... fun. 

[OOC: There might be a log later this month for the kid hang-out! If you want to hit that later just let her know you're interested in hanging out there, and you'll be good to go. If you have anything you have in mind that doesn't fit the bill here, just hit me up at simpledog at plurk! Also, feel free to run into her on floor 10 of the community building. ♥]

[What a weird name, is he some sort of assassin or soldier.]

One of my guardians. He's been a friend of my family since before I was event born.

[It is a weird name but he's pretty weird too. So it works.]

It is a strange thing to call yourself.

Is he kind?

It's all I've ever known him by.

I think he is. He's strange though, you might meet him if you ever visit the cafe.

I would like that... If you like him, he must be worth meeting.

[Speaking of meeting up, though.]

Come over, so I can show you Pac-Man. And you can tell me more about him.

I'd be glad for you both to meet.

[He blinks and then smiles.]

Certainly. I may need directions.

[shoplifter]

... If you want, I can meet you at your shop, and lead the way there.

[This is totally not an excuse for her to get more candy today, not at all!]

[Who needs an excuse to get candy?]

That sounds perfect. I can be there in just a bit.

[shoplifter]

[Perfecto. She'll already be in the aisles browsing, like a decent child who is absolutely not secretly a trained killer. And the bright side is, because Ciel's her friend, she totally won't shoplift in here. It's a win/win.]

[sweetlies]

[Definitely win/win. He can definitely appreciate not being robbed, even if he doesn't mind giving Laura some for free.

He's dressed more like most people in Riverview these days but his hair and eyepatch at least still stand out.]

Laura.

[shoplifter]

[She's always more than happy to offer Ciel a smile, albeit one of her mild ones.

She's never been a big smiler, but she tries.]

Are you ready for Pac-Man?

[And the cool club she's about to lead you off to.]

[sweetlies]

[He can definitely understand that. He'd forgotten how to genuinely smile for the longest time.]

Absolutely. I can't help but be curious now.

[He glances around and then, for the sake of trying to fit in.] Should we bring extra treats?

[shoplifter]

[Oh! She looks from the treats to Ciel, before pulling out a few rumpled dollars.

Will this do, buddy? She used the other half on arcade stuff. Oops.]

[sweetlies]

[Oops!

Ciel shakes his head though.]

I've got it this time. I'm a guest, after all, I should bring something along.

[shoplifter]

[Gosh. She looks unsure, but puts the money away.]

... I do like everything there.

What is your favorite?

[sweetlies]

[He grabs a small shopping basket.]

I made sure we had high quality sweets when we opened.

[He won't tolerate the recipes being cheapened.]

I like anything chocolate, really. And the caramel lollipops.
