I don't know how many people celebrate this, but today is Pi Day. Pi is a mathematical constant, with the first three numbers being three, one and four. Most people just celebrate by baking or eating pies. I made one for my daughter's math class.

Pi itself is actually very fascinating, though. It was originally defined as the ratio of a circle's circumference, but now it's used in many formulas in math and physics. Its decimal presentation never settles into a permanent repeating pattern.

But, ah... I'm sure most people just care about the pie.

It’s your pie; we’ll make whatever you want. I made apple for Lucy, but we can do something else.

[winscenario]

Hmm, apple and cinnamon pie is pretty great... but oh, what about chicken and orange pie? I had that once, it's pretty great, even if it's not a sweet one.

[jolting]

I’m sure I can find a recipe for that.

[winscenario]

Perfect. [ He beams happily. ] We could do it at my place, if you manage to find someone to look after Lucy?

[ He both sounds and looks hopeful as he says that. Not that he'd mind including her, he's just aching to have some more alone time with Victor. ]

[jolting]

I think I can. Kid’s got a lot of people who will look out for her. She’s like Henry in that way.

[winscenario]

[ He breathes out quietly, smile easing just so. ]

Alright. Well, when you have a date, let me know? I'll make sure to free up my time for you.

[jolting]

[his expression softens affectionately] I will.

Doing anything interesting at work these days?

[winscenario]

Oh... nothing much. Flying around some, scanning the moon, etcetera. Nothing terribly exciting as of late.

What about you?

[jolting]

Sounds exciting to me. But you’ve done much more space travel than me.

Mmmn. Minor injuries and a few physicals.

[winscenario]

Yeah, I guess it would all be pretty exciting to someone not used to it, so there's that.

[ His eyes glint a little, and he grins a bit wider, unable to let the opportunity to tease Victor pass him by. ]

Oh, I don't know. Getting a physical from you sounds very exciting.

[jolting]

[Victor recognizes the signs of teasing, and he only rolls his eyes at it. James can fluster him very easily, but not this time]

Clearly you haven't gotten a physical in a while. They're usually not very exciting.

[winscenario]

What are you talking about? I was at the hospital literally just the other day!

[ Evidently he's talking about a very different kind of physical... but anyway. ]

[jolting]

[his lip twitches] Well, that was a special exam that only I get to perform.

[winscenario]

And... how did you find the results? Satisfactory, or was there anything that worried you?

[ Oh he's enjoying this a little too much. ]

[jolting]

I would say the results are very satisfactory, though I may need to do a follow-up in a few days.

[he can play this game just as well]

[winscenario]

Mm, is that so? [ Well now he's positively vibrating with excitement. ] And how's your schedule looking right now, Doctor? Do I need to make an appointment, or can I just come in unannounced?

[jolting]

Hm, let me see. [he takes out his appointment book, looking through it]

Yes, it looks like I'm free.

[winscenario]

You mean right now? [ He raises an eyebrow, lips quirking into a smirk. ] You did say the follow-up should be in a few days.

[jolting]

Well, all right. If you really want to wait, I'll fit you in somewhere else.

[winscenario]

[ He can't bite back a snort and an open laugh at that. ]

I wouldn't have minded waiting either way, but right now works just perfectly. I can fit you in somewhere too. [ Wink. ]

[jolting]

I'm sure. Just... I don't want to rush you, but I need to be home in time to make dinner for Lucy.

[winscenario]

Right. [ For a split second, he seems almost surprised. He glances away (checking the time), then looks back to the screen with a smile. ]

How about we leave it for tomorrow, then? I'm not sure I can make it there anytime soon today. We'd be cutting it too close at best.

[jolting]

[his smile comes out a bit more awkward] Or maybe I can drop in on you at work tomorrow. See this moon scanning for myself.

[winscenario]

[ His smile widens, softer and warmer, and he nods at the doctor. ] I'd like that. Very... very much.

[jolting]

[he matches the warmth in James's smile] Then I'll be there.

[a pause, and then] Do you have to wear a uniform?
