I don't know how many people celebrate this, but today is Pi Day. Pi is a mathematical constant, with the first three numbers being three, one and four. Most people just celebrate by baking or eating pies. I made one for my daughter's math class.

Pi itself is actually very fascinating, though. It was originally defined as the ratio of a circle's circumference, but now it's used in many formulas in math and physics. Its decimal presentation never settles into a permanent repeating pattern.

But, ah... I'm sure most people just care about the pie.

I work at the hospital as a doctor. And I'm a scientist.

All at once, huh? How on earth do you have time for any kind of pie?

What kind of pie is it?

The one I made for my daughter's class was apple.

It's weird that when you say 'pie' you mean a pie with fruit in it and not something like a mince pie, or a steak and cheese pie.

I'm not sure that kind of pie would've gone over nearly as well in a class of eight-year-olds.

I dunno, have you ever seen an eight year old? They'll eat anything really.

(Though he's right, a sweet pie would probably be more exciting. It's the sugar.)
